Hotel Astoria-Vatican - Lourdes

We have used this hotel on several times before and have it to excellent in all aspects

This would have been a fine hotel 50 years ago, but it has become somewhat run-down. Excellent cental location. Meals, both breakfast and dinner, were of poor quality. Friendly proprietor and staff.

There was no one at the desk when I arrived. After waiting, a very pleasant but not well trained young man came who directed us to the wrong set of elevators on the opposite side of the hotel, requiring carrying bags up and down flights of stairs unnecessarily. The "double" room for my niece and her husband was s small dormitory with four single beds, somewhat dirty, and a non-functioning shower. My single room was tiny with old thin carpeting atop cement floors. It had a great view of the castle. The hotel is in dire need of complete remodeling. Attempting to have a drink prior to dinner, we were told that the bartender was having dinner and we could go get him. Inquiring as to the best restaurant in Lourdes, the very nice lady at the desk was unable to give much of an answer. When pressed, she suggested a place that was closed, then an inadequate Italian place up the street. I would stress that the staff is extremely pleasant and accomodating, just not able to be of much help. One does not go to Lourdes for luxury but for spiritual help. Perhaps that is the reason that this hotel is so lacking. It is simply run down, not very clean, and not well managed. The location is good and the staff are friendly and welcoming. If penance is a necessary part of your pilgrimage, this is the place for you.

Double-room

Le personnel de cet Hôtel, simple et familial, mérite des compliments tant son accueil est chaleureux. Les Chambres sont propres et spacieuses. Il faudrait, néanmoins, refaire les joints de la baignoire qui sont vieux et un peu "noirs". Nous recommandons cet Hôtel très bien situé pour découvrir la ville.

Great place to stay. The Irish lady is very welcoming and helpful. Just wish they had a better breakfast selection. Other than that was perfect and will return again.

I THINK IS EXPENSIVE, BUT I THINK ALL EUROPE IS EXPENSIVE

We spent 3 days in Lourdes. The hotel Astoria offered a good price/quality ratio. The personnel is very willing to help and deserves a good rating.The only problem comes from some customers who made too much noise after midnight. In general we have been satisfied with the hotel and also with the reservation system.
