The public areas in the Umi (reception, restaurant, ...) were quite nice, but our room was shabby with peeling paint, worn carpet and beddings etc. We didn't feel that the room was worth the price. On the plus side the location is good, in a quiet neighborhood but just a couple of streets away from many restaurants, shops and the underground. It is good that the neighborhood is quiet, because it can get hot in the room and you will need to keep the window open (though our window could open just a few inches). Overall we were disappointed with this hotel. Later in our trip we stayed in a different hotel on the same street with a better room and lower price.

Very old Hotel & facilities, the price is too high for the value that they offer. Bathroom too small, showers doesn't work properly, wifi is a mess, services try to be good, but they can not achieve the minimum level adviced. Not a good place to stay more than one night if there are other alternatives. Makes a week favor to Venere advertising it.

Reasonable value for money in this area. Walls, floors and doors are thin, so you can but hope that guests in nearby rooms are quiet and considerate.

Very nice hotel, with young and professional staff. The problems are the impossibility to open the window over 10 cm, the separate taps in the lavabo, for hot and cold water. The bathroom need a renewal.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful area. Very close to tube stations. Breakfast and dinner were lovely..with late breakfast times available. Restaurant manager Yogi was extremely friendly. The rooms we stayed in were rather dated, but clean all the same. Despite a 7am fire drill which we were woken up to, I would highly recommend this hotel!

This hotel is alright. Room was small (as usual in London) but a queen bed for a single room made up for it! Nice to have internet access in the lobby. Walking distance from Portobello market and 2 tube stations that take you anywhere in the city. Close to the best Indian restaurant in London, Khan's, on Lambroke Grove.

This hotel redecorates an old town house and the outer appearance is wonderful. The location is very good. There are many restaurants and shops near the hotel. The hotel clerk is very friendly and kindness. But the wall of the room is thin and little noisy. It depends on the naibor guests.

I came to London for a four-day holiday to visit the art museums. I have stayed in Bayswater before but had never found a hotel with just the right mix of qualities. I found the UMI to satisfy my needs in terms of reasonable price, nice neighborhood (lovely park just in front), plain but comfy and quiet rooms, and a very nice, helpful staff. I shall return.

Umi Hotel is located in a victorian building in Kensington borough, very close to the commercial area of Queensway (restaurants, stores, cafè and a shopping mall)and to the underground station of Bayswater. My room, a single room at the 4th floor, was a little bit small and with sink in room (in the bathroom only WC and shower), but i've not spended very much time inside. The structure, although in a quiet zone, was very noisy, due to internal reasons. I can't say that UMI Hotel is my favourite hotel, but, for London average, is a very good solution for a not expensive holiday. Breakfast (not included) quite good.

Most of the staff was friendly, some could not care less. I once told the reception about cigarrette smoke in the corridor coming from a guest room (smoking in the hotel is prohibited by law), and this caused a loud argument between two members of the staff in front of me about who should go! I felt bad for the one who really wanted to solve the problem; the young man I would have hired under no circumstances for any job - his behaviour was unforgivable. Staff often seemed tired, stressed, I think because they were too few and thus all too busy. Most of them really did their best to be helpful, but many questions of mine were left unasked because of the feeling there would be no time anyway. The atmosphere among the staff does count, so do their working hours and the number of them, so do something about it! The room was on ground floor, somewhat shabby with obviously no view, with staff smoking area under the window. One night the heater started to howl keeping us awake for hours, but this was fixed by very friendly manager next day. Except for the heater incident, our room was peaceful day and night. Even the shower worked, once we learned how. :) The beds were comfortable, the room spacious enough for a few days stay, and the equipment was as advertised. The cleaning lady (of Russian origin?) was very friendly indeed, and we got to enjoy her excellent work daily! Even the tea tray was neatly filled and organized daily. Our special thanks to her! The surroundings of the hotel really are nice and peaceful. There are plenty of cosy little roads to walk in the morning, and on Westbourne Road we found an excellent Planet Organic shop&cafe&lunch restaurant - a delicious alternative for breakfast! - and the superb Indian restaurant Khan's, among others. Perfect connections to whereever we wanted to go.

Camera pulita a abbastanza spaziosa. Consigliato!

Nice stay at Umi hotel, wonderful surroundings (near Queensway and it took only 7 minutes walking to two undergroundstations and a tesco nearby). Nice and big twin room. Only problem were the floors (very old and noisy), and the firedoors on the corridor which made a lot of noise. We think breakfast should be included.

The hotel was good for the price we payed, the surroundings were great, our rooms were on the 2nd floor and we had a great view. The breakfast great, it is not include in the price but you can choose between a continental o english breakfast and it is not very expensive. But the staff at the reception were unhelphul and a lazy because we ask for some tickets for the next day to go to a musical, we would like to make the booking and they give us the information the next day just when we were in the main office buying the tickets. Pay the rooms the first day when we arrived was a circus, and also if you want pay by credit card they will charge you 1 pound more for the service.... it is .... Everything good except the staff of reception very bad and poor.

As a younger single traveller in London for the first time, this was a great place to stay. The location was further away from the tube than ideal (and there are only stairs at Bayswater station if you need to carry heavy luggage. Queensgate station is only a minute or two away from Bayswater fyi), but still very central (very cute neighbourhood, a minute away (North) is Westbourne Grove, which has many boutiques and restaurants). I stayed in a single room (203) and it was actually very spacious, with a lot of room to spread open your luggage and still be able to walk around. It was clean, the bed was nice, I had a great view looking out into the parkette, and the bathroom was fairly decent. And the TV worked with a few standard stations. I would definitely recommend especially for the price in comparison to what else is out there.

Hotel Umi represents good value for a London hotel, with relatively large rooms, given that most hotel rooms in London are shoeboxes! Amenities are OK; breakfast and Internet access is available for a fee. I arrived on Carnival weekend and was somewhat taken aback by the amount of alcohol-fuelled noise and disorderly behaviour in the Notting Hill area. Generally, the area does seem a little bit dodgy, but I didn't feel unsafe - however, I didn't really go out at night. The location is very convenient for the north side of London city, and the excellent Tube system means that you can get anywhere else easily. There is a wide variety of good restaurants in the area, Bayswater Station is about 10 minutes' walk away, and there is a laundromat down the road. Overall - excellent value for London.

The hotel is about 10 min walk from Bayswater station, not exactly very near but managable. The surroundings of the hotel is good but the 'thin walls' means that you hear noices from rooms above you and from the corridor. But its bearable as all is quiet after 1am and you can have a good sleep. As for the space of the room, it is acceptable as all London hotels are about the same size. But I must say that the bathroom is bigger than I thought, no problem with it.More imptly, the room is clean and all basic amenities like kettle, hair dryer, coffee maker are provided. There are restaurants and supermarkets and BOOTs along the Bayswater station so getting food is a breeze. I will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is travelling to London.

Top floor, small twin room desperately in need of makeover - jaded. sash window opened onto ledge strewn with dozens of cigarette butts. Bathroom with old, stained lino floor - bath panels similarly stained. Shower not fit for purpose - had to walk round to get wet! metal waste bin battered. Had to wait minutes for cistern to fill between flushes. Not good. Continental breakfast ok but strange tick four items ordering arrangement with betting shop pencil not great. short walk to Bayswater shopping area and tube so location fine but def wouldn't stay again

This is a find, a gem of a budget hotel in London! The room, though small as expected, is very comfortable, and certainly not a closet like another hotel I've previously stayed in London. It is in safe, clean, quiet, underground-accessible Westminster neighborhood. The hotel staff are superb - helpful, and courteous. There is a lift. There is a reliable internet service/computer workstation. I will reserve again when I return to London.

It's a good hotel. I used two stations, Bayswater and Queensway while staying. Both are near the hotel. It was very convenient. Also, there are a lot of restaurants, shops which open until mid-night. The room and its bed size is just a little small, but enough for Japanese like me. And at the hotel, it was available to connect my PC to Wi-Fi internet via service named 'Polka Spots'. I paid 3 GBP for an hour. And I can use this 60 minutes all without time regulation (For example, using within a day). It's a good system. Also, access speed was enough for business. I enjoyed my trip.

The Umi Hotel is in an excellent area of London, just a short walking distance to the Bayswater Station, closest tube access. There are an exceptional number of eating establishments and pubs nearby, and the prices for meals and beverages are reasonable for a city like London. The hotel itself is rather tired and could use an upgrade, but it is clean and comfortable and provides good value for what you pay. The best thing to ask for is a room in the back and on the upper floors to reduce noise both from other travellers and the creeky wooden floors. The breakfast area was quaint and pretty and the breakfast was reasonable both in quality and amount. Aside from a toilet that required a strongarm to flush, our experience at the Umi was pleasant.

I stayed in a single room at the UMI hotel for 3 nights in October 2007 during my first visit to London on a weekend sightseeing trip. The room was fine and the bathroom and shower was very good although extremely small (the bathroom sink was in the normal room). The room had a wall-mounted Plasma TV but the digital TV broadcast didn't work so the TV was unusable. The continental breakfast was OK (very good coffee) but not really enough for me (only 1 muffin, 1 youghurt and 1 orange juice). I found the worst thing about the hotel was the squeaky floorpanels and the noise from the night life in the street (which can be really disturbing if you're looking for a good night's sleep). The hotel staff was friendly and most of them appeared to be from eastern europe which was a bit surprising to me.

Small, neat single room in an old building formerly known as the Wesminster Hotel. Great location, great price, clean, comfortable rooms and good staff. Generally a very well turned out place, with neat common areas and a reasonable restaurant to boot. Young, international, hostel type clientele, almost a flashpacker atmosphere (with added school groups). The noise, however, was unbearable. Not sure if it was just the room I was in but the noise from above was unbelieveable - every creaking floorboard sounded like an earthquake. Bizarre. On my last night I think I managed 2 and half hours of sleep. If you have ear plugs (or don't mind not sleeping much) well worth checking out; the noise was too much for me though.

Beds comfortable, room clean. Breakfast poor. The hotel is now called UMI, not Westminster. Service fine. We checked in at 11.30 am and were able to go to our room. I had a single room at the front. The size was fine, if a little on the small size. Batroom was ok, except the wash basin is in the room. Noise was an issue, I was awoken at 6am the first morning and 6:30am the second from the street. Look for a room at the back. Apart from that though a very enjoyable experience. A good breakfast, 6 minute walk from the Bayswater tube station and an abundance of restaurants within 4 minutes walking distance. I will go back to the Westminster Hotel the next time I am in London.

This was our first stay at the Westminster Hotel, the rooms were a good size, beds coomfy pillows good and soft but the windows were dirty and couldn't be opened. The decor in the room was worn and tired and they could do with a spruce up even for a budget hotel. The staff at reception were very helpful and a lovely coffee shop but the smoking in the reception was offputting. The access to the web on the computers in reception was very helpful.

Pleased with all aspects, the room is tiny, no room to move about the bed perimeter. Service excellent, WC excellen. Pictures do represent room accurately, just seems smaller when you really see it. Don't bring a lot of baggage, barely room for two backpacks, but considering the cost of accommodations in London a great value , we would definitely return.

The room was O.K. though the price for the first five days was 20 pounds less (66) than for the last five days (86). Breakfast was very good at first but then the hotel had a change of heart and replaced it with a cheap sugar loaded carbs taking away cold cuts, cottage cheese fruits, bread and all. Our bathroom was on a rundown side and the mattress was lumpy .

This nicest aspect of this hotel were the staff that worked the reception desk. They were friendly and very helpful. The rest was disappointing. Tiny bathrooms, old & sad looking rooms.

Run of the mill hotel. Good facilities though and excellent breakfast (best of our trip). We stayed for one night and it was exactly as we needed. Water pressure was a little low, and the walkways are a little wonky. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The surrounding area is great for eating. Every type of cuisine is available right outside the Bayswater Tube station located nearby.

During our 5-day stay, there were two baffling fire drills(?) in the dead hours of the night, which was all annoying and baffling as no explanation was offered. We were deprived of very precious and much needed sleep.

Good location {near queensway road, bayswater tube, paddington station, etc}. very good place to stay. Only complaint is weak water pressure in the shower.

This is good a three star hotel. I've made a reservation for a single, but I've had a double with all conforts. Breakfast could be better, but it's enaugh for the english standard. This could rapresent a good choise at a good price.

Cheap, cheerful, comfortable - what more do you need. This was the third time we'd stayed at The Westminster, and it is adequate for the equivalent of £27.50 B&B per person per night.

Very nice. Good location- close to the Underground and dining options. Very comfortable. Americans beware of the high tub- you may fall and hurt yourself. True story.

The area is fantastic with excellent restaurants, some shopping, and very close to the tube and Paddington station (Heathrow Express). Rooms very clean, and good breakfast. Single room was small (but ok for London standards I suppose), double was very nice. I would definetely stay again! Recommended!

Finally i found a nice hotel for staying in london! We booked 2 double groves rooms at the special venere's rate and those were very clean and confortable. Good idea the boiler with tea&coffee available for free. Employees were so kind for every request. Very furnished breakfast. 3 minutes from Bayswater tube station and in a very quiet neighborough, 100 meters from Notting Hill. Many ethnic restaurants in the zone. Next time in London will be at the Westminster Hotel(just online booking).

First, London is expensive now for Americans. (1.76 $/LB) We stayed in three different places in England and they were all expensive. The Westminster was the cheapest. I was worried about the area based on information I had read in travel books, but was pleasantly surprised to find the area was fine. Lots of restaurants nearby and the tube station was within easy walking distance. We had a back room and it was very quiet. The room was more than adequate, but it was definitely not as nice as shown on the pictures. For example, the walls had places with water stains and the furniture was very rudimentary. The breakfast was better than I expected -- continental with boiled egg, lunch meats, etc. For 76 pounds it was a good (London) value. I would stay at the Westiminster again.

The rooms were not dirty, but you didn't have the feeling they were really clean. The price is excellent for London. Notting Hill is not as hip as one might think. It was our first time to be in London. The city is great, but next time we will stay in another hotel.

The westminster hotel, i thought was great value for money- the location was perfect and the room was more than adequate- however, the picture of the outside of the hotel was a little different to how it actually looks, as it was covered in scaffolding which was a little dissapointing! Overall, it was a very good stay though.
