Staff were very polite, welcoming and very helpful. The hotel minutes away from some very nice restaraunts, as well as being within 10 minutes walk away from Buckingham palace. The hotel is a short walk away from victoria station. I stayed for one night with my son and found the rooms to be clean, warm and quiet and i would stay again - and recommend others too. I wanted somewhere in the Centre of London which was not expensive - clean, warm and quiet and thats what i got. When i read some the reviews prior to booking, some people seemed to complain about the size of the rooms - being to small as well as the bathroom being small - with some even being critical of the decor. In my opinion, overall its a decent place to stay for a decent price especially in this part of London. My room was somewhere i wanted for me and my son to sleep for the night while sightseeing in London and i was happy with it and had a comfortable stay.

Unfortunately some guy was banging and shouting in the street and didn't help with sleep! However that is not the fault of the hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the choice at breakfast was good. My grandson and I enjoyed our stay.

I am a French and spend 3 days in this hotel. It is old fashion rooms but they are clean, enough big for 3 persons, the bathroom is small but clean. The shower is correctly working. The staff is really nice and the service provided really great. If you need anything you can ask them and they will happily help you. I will be back there if needed.

The Surtees hotel, London, is a very basic hotel, but clean and adequate. The room included a small, but perfectly functional shower, although not as suggested by the virtual tour on the website. The bathroom was one of those "pods" built into the room, and for some reason was freezing cold despite the room being adequately warm. The staff were fine and helpful and breakfast was basically cereals toast and coffee, although other reviewers had praised the quality of the breakfast, so I suspect it had changed. Good if you want basic accomodation on a budget.

Maybe London IS just unavoidably horridly expensive, but I thought we paid a lot of money for staying in a family room that did not look like in the pictures but felt like "aunt Edna's basement". It was clean, but smelled moldy, the bathroom was minute. Clean towels, a tiny piece of soap and 1 plastic cup was provided for a family. The breakfast (served 8-9 only in a tiny area where you have to squeeze in between other guests) was all carbohydrates; no eggs, meat, fish or vegetables were available. The staff were friendly but it didn't make up for the feeling that we did not want to spend a minute more at the hotel than what was strictly necessary to sleep and shower. When travelling with children it would be good to have a place to relax. There are additional toilets on the staircase landings between the floors, but there is no sink for washing hands. This seems strange.

This was my 4th trip to London and my first stay at Surtees Hotel. The room was very tight for 5ppl with no place to keep our luggage. The closet only had 4 hangers and the only place to put our wet towels was on 5 hooks in small hallway outside of bathroom. We were all disappointed that towels were only replaced every 3days. By day 2 our towels were still wet and were starting to smell because they did not dry. The mattresses were lumpy and had springs that would stick out making it difficult to get comfortable new mattresses were needed. The breakfast was much better than expected, the hotel employees were always pleasant and welcoming in the morning. However the room we ate in was very small and cramped. We barely could fit around the table without eating on top of each other. Location of hotel was great it was a short walk to Victoria station and a 30min walk to Parliment/Big Ben.

Good location near Victoria and Palace but tiny twin room and tiny shower pod which needed a good clean. Beds clean and comfortable. Breakfast room tiny and had to wait a while. Toast was hot and freshly made plenty of fruit as well as cereals

The hotel was fine even if the bathroom was very small. The problem was the location of the room nr 2:it was situated next to the stairs at the entrance of the hotel so you can hear the noise of the people entering in the hotel at night. For the next time, I would ask not to book rooms nr 1 and 2 which are in the same position.

My mother in law and me went to London just for a weekend. We wanted a cheap hotel in the heart of London close to an underground station. Surtees Hotel fulfilled our expectations! The rooms are not big, but we did not need more space, since we were only there to sleep. The room was meant for three, and it was one single bed and one bunk bed. The beds were ok, but a bit squeaky. The bathroom was in the hallway, and it was ok, since we had it all to ourselves. There was some problems with the flushing system, and there was not very much water in the shower in the morning, when everyone in the hotel was taking a bath at the same time. However, when we told the staff about it, they took care of everything straight away. We only have praise for the staff!!! They were SO friendly, welcoming and helpfull, that it makes up for the small negative details. If we are to go back to London, we will definately stay there again! It is a first class one star hotel, so to speak :-)

This hostel has a very good location. It is actually very quite, although the windows are really symbolic (are absolutely not isolated). But this is the normal standard there. The hostel is nice but the rooms are really small. The double bed is perhaps 130cm wide. What we didn't like was the shared bathroom. It was always busy, also bcs the hostel was fully booked. The staff is extremely nice.

Good price, cleanliness, central location and friendly staff. The breakfast room is small but enough, five tables for ten rooms. We never had to wait. It's not a luxurious hotel but if you're looking for something cheap and clean it's good for you. I didn't like that they ask you for the money of the whole stay when you arrive. The wifi didn't work.

The room for six is a little one but acceptable for the price and clean. The localitation of the hotel, near to Victoria Station at walking distance is so practical. We were walking also to the Buckingham Palace. The most important thing at the hotel was the attention of the employees at the check in,emergencies and for breakfast time.

Poor hotel in great location. Room which served as reception and breakfast room and later dining room was too small to let everyone eat calmly and without hurry. Breakfast hours are too short. If hotel is full people need to wait to get some table. I cannot say much about the rooms but the desciption that most of the rooms has there own bathroom is not true. Rooms does have access to the toilet which by the way is loced with the padlock. That are disadvantages of the hotel. Generally speaking it is nice hotel, but too small for many guest.

We stayed four nights in a six person room in the below ground floor, so a lot of my evaluation is based on a very cramped room with a window opening to the central drain. Not the most salubrious surroundings, but cannot fault the hotel on room service - everyday they serviced our chock a block crammed space and remade beds etc. Breakfast room was incredibly tight, but service from staff was lovely and brekky was light but loads of choice and a good start to the day. The last night we had a kid's friend join us so booked a double room as well. This was on the ground floor and was luxurious after a room for 6. Noisy when neighbour slammed door (obviously couldn't understand the sign in English not to:-) Location was brilliant (great area and great restaurants nearby) and for a family of 6, the room was very economical and clean - big ticks!!

The location is very good, near the bus station and near Victoria Station. Easy to reach it from Stansted (train to Liverpool str. and then the underground Circle Line). From Victoria station you can take bus no.11 or 24 and they will take you to the most important attractions. Buckingham Palace and surroundings can be reached by foot. Rooms and bathrooms are very small. Have you more than one suitcase, it is not sure you have place for both of them if you also want to sleep in the same room. However the room is quite clean. Breakfast is good. The location of the hotel and the flowers at the main entrance increase the rating of the hotel.

Fazit: Wir kommen gern wieder!

I stayed there with my family for one night. The welcoming was excellent. We arrived prior to the check in hour and they kept our luggage while we took a walk to get to know the city. They also spoke to us in spanish with was nice. The breakfast was good and they were very attentitive. The room was small but we expected that but it was cosy and we had warm water and soft beds to sleep in. There is not lift and the stairs were narrow but this is standard in London. I would definitelly recommend and go back to this hotel.
