I spent 4 nights in this hotel and it was very difficult. I am a frequent traveller and I often sleep over in hotels. I was with my boyfriend but the room was far too small for two people.  It seemed that they turn a single bed room into a double. There was no space for luggage and no hook to put towels. It was quite difficult to get on the 4th floor with our suitcases as there was no elevator.  Breakfast room was so small that we had to wait to find a table and the food range was very poor.  Free wifi was included. However, there was no net on the 4th floor. I've seen different hotels in London and I would not recommend this one. At least it was clean, it is located very near Notting Hill Gate tube station and the staff seemed to be keen to solve Internet issues.

I wouldn't stay again in this hotel. I booked one single room and they gave me a double at the basement, where there was no telephone signal, the bath handle was broken, there was a lot of noise from the street and every time I turned on the TV there was no electricity in the room. I referred this to the reception and they told me to try not turn on the Tv again!!! These issues are very serious inasmuch I have payed so much money for my stay there,

The main qualities of this hotel: it is clean and well located. As regards the inconveniences: my room was in the underground; there were 2 windows, but not much light and it smelled a bit of tobacco and humidity, and as it was very near to the breakfast room, when the maids prepared everything for the breakfast (at arount 6.30-7 a.m) they woke me up with their loud talking. I had NO wi-fi connection in my room, the breakfast room is too tiny and gets easily crowded and, finally, they made me pay 5 pounds for keeping my luggage the day I checked out which is, in my opinion, MISERABLE.

Sorry, but the room was too small (10 m², incl. bathroom), no air conditioner, too hot or too cold water to have a shower and there was no noise protection by the window. Only staff was quite ok, even though we cancelled 1 of 5 nights.

I originally booked a single room for one night, my last night in London. However, I needed to check in early, but my single room wasn't available, so I ended up having to upgrade to a double and pay an early check-in fee, so I ended up paying 30 pounds more than I wanted. However, I was glad to be able to check into a room at all. I checked in around 8:30 am, during breakfast time. My room was in the basement near the breakfast area, in a group of 3 rooms all separated from the main hallway by a fire door. The main hallway very cramped and littered with random things, so that made accessing the room difficult in and of itself. The doors are all sealed so tightly with whatever stripping they have that they make this horrible tearing noise when opening and closing, and right outside my door were two fire extinguishers. So everything is quartered off by fire doors, and there are extinguishers everywhere. While I appreciated the effort to prepare for fires, it also made me quite nervous. The breakfast room was super cramped and quite possibly the smallest room with the most going on in the entire hotel. So I got into my room and prepared to shower, which was the most unpleasant experience. The water temperature went from freezing cold to scalding hot and back again repeatedly. I presume this was because it was during (1) breakfast time and (2) the times when everyone else was also showering. I'm not sure, but it took a long time to shower because I kept having to get out and wait for the temperature to shift to something I could handle standing under. When I exited the shower, I went to get dressed. By the time I sat down to put my shoes on, my feet were filthy. I wondered when the last time they mopped the floor was. I also had no remote for my television. I went to the reception desk and asked for one, which the man supplied. I couldn't get it to work so I went back to the reception desk, and some sort of manager informed me that the TV in my room

Room size: The room was very small. The twin-sized beds, when pushed together filled the whole room except for 13 inches on one side of the bed. Storage: There was a place to hang clothes, but we had to basically live out of our suitcases for the rest of clothes and other items. There is no storage under the bed, since the box springs sets on the floor. Bathroom: The bathroom was very nice, but no counter space to put hygiene items. Absolute biggest problem: Taking a shower in the shower (no bathtub). The hot and cold water did not mix properly, so you would have warm water which turned scalding hot then the water suddenly becoming freezing cold. We will not be using this hotel ever again because of this issue. Breakfast (included in price): Boiled eggs, cold cereal, bread, butter, jelly, coffee, milk, juice. Breakfast room: small and crowded. Hotel does not have a lift. Hotel does not have air-conditioning.

First time I stayed at Notting Hill Gate Hotel. They gave me a double bedroom in the basement with a window looking at the fire exit with a lots of bags of rubish surrounded. The room smelled like a pool bar, full of very strong cigarette smell. I asked for another room and I had to pay extra money for that.

I think I was unlucky because I got the room at the entrance of the hotel and close to the breakfast room, so it was very very noisy, above all in the morning from 6.30am on. The room was very small, but I was alone, so it was ok, and a bit cold, too. Anyway staff was always very polite and nice to me. The surroundings are great. The hotel is 5 minutes away from Portobello Road and from the Notting Hill Underground Station. So you can reach almost every place in the center of London. Generally, it was a good choice!!

The location (close to Nottinghill Gate tube station and many buses) is good. My room was tiny (a prison cell couldn't be smaller!) and I could not even properly open my suitcase. The "bathroom" was also about 1 sq meter with a miniature washing basin and a shower from the ceiling, that couldn't be directed. Such a room shouldn't be given to anybody. Walls were dirty and no curtain/blinds at the windows -- thus, light came in all night. Breakfast was served in a small space behind the reception desk, and had not much variety (English breakfast not available).

We spent 4 days at the hotel with 2 teenage children. There is a worning at the internet at room 24. No need to be suspiscious about that or other rooms. Everything was clean and allright. The breakfastroom is very very small. Contact with other geusts is easily made this way. See it in a positive way! Lovely restaurants around the corner. Great italian restaurant 57 footsteps from the frontdoor of the hotel. Next to underground and busstop. Good hotel for the price! Tip: buy a Londonpass and go every early night to the cinema before dinner. Nice moment of rest during a busy day in London.

We atayed at Notting Hill Gate Hotel for almost 2 weeks. We were 2 mothers travelling with our graduating daughters. We had 2 rooms and after an initial glitch in our reservation, all problems were rectified promptly and in a very friendly manner. This hotel is a very good value, be sure to book early for best rates.Rooms are adequately sized but not huge. Also ask for a room on the upper levels. The rooms were cleaned very well each day and the public areas were always clean. Reception was friendly and very helpful. The area is very central, with great transport connections, lots of shops, restaurants and walking distance to Hyde Park. We had a wonderful stay and would definately stay here again! Our room was on the top floor (attic) with a skylight for a window, it was a cloudy day and it was like a hot house,on a sunny day it would have been impossible to be in the room in the daytime. There was barely room to get in the door nevermind get our luggage in without one of us getting on the bed. We asked to be moved to another room and they said the only other room was in the basement. We took the room in the basement but it smelt of damp especially in the bathroom, my sister ended up having an asthma attack for most of our trip triggered by this. Our room was between the kitchen and the alley where the garbage was taken out. It was also below the breakfast room and the front door of the hotel so at around 7am chairs and tables were being scraped across the floor above to set up the diningroom in the reception area, dishes caltering, employees shouting and the door to the alley and the enterance of the hotel banging, it was a nightmare. The breakfast consisted of stale cornflakes, toast you had to make yourself, rubbery boiled eggs and coffee that was down to the last half inch when we arrived. After the first morning we ate at a cafe down the street. The neighbourhood was lovely, across from Kensington Gardens, a nice local shopping area, tube stops nearby and lots of buses. I would definatley recomend the neighbourhood but steer clear of the hotel, it couldn't have been any worse unless there were mice running around. I would have gladly paid more for a comfortable hotel.

We've got a room in the basement first, which didn't agree with us (comfort, TV not working properly, missing privacy when curtains are open). We managed to move to another room on the third floor during our stay, which was much better. It was a bit more spacious and generally more comfortable. Rooms are clean and tidy. We found the staff to be generally helpful and nice while one member of staff didn't really seem to care. The breakfast room is tiny so you better be early if you want to have some breathing space when having brekfast. I would stay in this hotel again, as the price and the location are good. Next time I'd just make sure not to get a room in the basement.

The hotel was very nice but our room was in the basement. The air was very stuffy, having only one window which did not lead directly outside. When we asked to be switched to a room with more air they told us that they would be able to switch us for the next day. We were appreciative but in the end decided not to bother and to stay where we were. It was in a very good location, right near hyde park and in a nice neighborhood. Breakfast was good but standard, staff was nice but foreign. We felt that we were able to walk barefoot on the floors which is always a good sign. Great Value. Overall would rate my stay with a B+.

Perfect deal!!! situation is unbeatable, in the heart of Notting Hill neighbourhood. Very very close to tube station(red and yellow line), just in front the bus station, several pubs in the sorroundings. Just 10 minutes walking from Portobello Market... Our quad room in the first floor was much higher than expected, even had a wonderful terrace. Everithing spacius except the breakfast room, is the ONLY bad point of the hotel, if I say that is tiny I am being too generous. But don´t reject this hotel for this reason, all the other points are outstanding!!! If prices are not increased I have no doubt I would come back to this hotel.

We were really satisfied with the hotel: good remarks are that our room was really quiet, bathroom was new, bed was ok, so the basic requirements (i.e. to sleep ok and to stay in a clean place) were fulfilled 100%. You can come back to the hotel at any time in the night, someone is always there waiting for you. Nevertheless, there are a couple of things one must know before making a reservation: you have to pay the WHOLE stay as soon as you arrive (!!!), a 4% is added if you pay with credit card, you have to pay up to 5 pounds per bag for luggage deposit, no lift of course, and you may have to climb up to five staircases before reaching your room. Hot water usually arrives but you have sometimes to be patient, breakfast is ok but it is kind of a circus exercise since the room is tiny and you have to share space with other people in a tetris-like fashion.

Notting hill gate hotel was perfect for our short stay. Location was great and the staff were very friendly. Room was clean and had everything we needed. The room was on the small side, so was the bathroom and breakfast room. ( this was not a problem but maybe anoying for longer stays). The room stayed hot as there was no aircon and you couldn't open the window as there was a bad smell outside. We payed for a double room and got a room with two double beds! Our room was in the basement therefore no view ( we paid a low price so did not expect more). Overall would reccomend for short stays or those on a budget.

This was my first time at the hotel, however i have stayed in a lot of hotels in london all on pleasure holidays, i got this hotel very cheap £33 for the room with breakfast(breakfast very good, but they need to look at getting a bigger room for it as only 6 tables for a 25 room hotel we went down at 8:30am with no tables so waited for ten mins to get a table.) I was not expecting much for the price but room had been refurbished and bathroom was clean with plenty of hot water, only complaint was the carpet was a bit grubby. We arrived at 10am and were able to leave our bags at reception until the room was ready(No 10) at 2pm. however we did have to pay £5 to leave bags on checkout. All in all a great little find for the price only 2 mins from tube 1 min from buses.

My wife, daughter and I stayed with our grandparents for four nights at Hotel Notting Hill Gate. In all we can recommend this hotel it was really worth the price we payed. Easy subway from Heathrow. The staff was (with one exception) both polite and service minded. (Especially during our incident when Grand Ma lost her purse in a taxi.) Please note there are a lot of stairs but no lift. Could be better: 1. The breakfast room was far to small! (Knock down the wall to room 6 to get a better breakfast room!) We had breakfast round the corner at Cafe Diana. Very nice. 2. Also the door key system failed at least once a day. A lot of running in the stairs. 3. They added 4% on payment with card (news for us) 4. In room 11 there was dirt in the roof (!) But still, we would stay at his hotel again if we return.

Nice affordable hotel, we ordered a triple room, but there was only a doublebed in the room. We had to make up the third bed on a makeshift sofa. The breakfast room was very small, and we had to wait to sit down and eat in the morning. Staff was polite and welcoming, we would stay there again.

We would definitely recommend this hotel! Since we were in the city during the day and only returned to the hotel at night, the small rooms were totally fine. The breakfast is pretty simple but enough to start the day (we often went to Tesco, which is only 3 minutes from the hotel, to get some bagels). The staff is very friendly. When we checked in they gave us room 6, which is (as already said) right beside the reception, the breakfast area and the entrance. Everytime a new guest arrived we thought he would come right into our room. But we only had to "sleep" there one night since they immediately gave us another room (no. 17, very nice view but not very quiet either. I think, all of the rooms are pretty loud because the walls between two rooms are pretty thin. But don't worry: it's still possible to get some sleep) and we had a beautiful stay. To sum up, I can say that this hotel was really great and I am going to book it again! Just one advice: hands off of room 6!

Only one room correct on three booked ! Terribly noisy night, poor breakfast. I had a problem when I arrived at midnight (in one room, a door did'nt close) so they changed the room... for a dirty one, with dirty sheets. In the morning, they said I had a good price !

Small rooms, but no problem - you do not stay in the room in London. Bathroom was super for London in this price range. Clean and enough space. Must be among the best in London for this price.

We booked a double room and were fortunate to be upgraded to a bigger room with two double beds. A double bed in London standard is close to a full size bed in the US. The bed is very soft with dusty and coarse linens. The rooms are not well insulated and we were woken up by people's foot steps and talking outside. Bathroom is clean, new, small but adequate. The good news is that the reception has moved to the ground floor and you wouldn't need to climb 4 flights of stairs. Since we were there only one night, it was good for the price and the quality.

Rooms are quite small but clean. IMPORTANT: If you pay with credit card they charge you 4% for the total amount and if you make the check out and you want to leave yourluggage or baggage during the last day you must pay 10€ per item.

great quality overall 2 minor complaints: - rates quoted on venere are only available when paying cash - credit cards are subject to a 4% surcharge / this could have been mentioned on the website when booking; - they charge you 5 pounds per items if you want to leave your luggage after you check out

I was in a little room downstairs without any window, but it was clean and I have goodtime cause I was here to be in London and no to stay at the hostel. The location is great and when I'll come back in London, I'll come back to this place, but ask for one room upstairs

Fellows, At the website they show a double room, and it is what the picture shows. But as I was alone in this trip, they put me in a single room. Terrible !!! A 1x2meters room, without private bathroom and without heater. My first night of three was something awful!! I had to pay seven pounds more to change for a double room, that worth it. But this kind of problem shouldn´t happen. This kind of room mustn´t be offered. Nobody wants it. Anyone pays 7 pounds for a minimum confort and privacy! About the double room, it´s a good one for the price, a1though the number 20, at least, smells cigarrete.

Rooms were clean but tiny. If anybody in your room is over 170 pounds, don't even think about trying to use the shower, and the toilet will be tight.

Always a little nervous when staying in London 'budget' hotels, you normally end up paying a great deal for not much... However was very pleased with this hotel. Yes the room was small, but its in the centre of London at a reasonable rate so its going to be (and who spends a lot of time in their room in London??). Room was clean and extremely quiet (tip:request a room off the ground floor to avoid any tube noise), plenty of hot water too. Location a winner too: Right by Kensington gardens/Hyde park so a beautiful walk into London or two tude stations within 5mins inside zone 1. All in all excellent budget hotel. Would certainly recommend to friends and stay again!

Acutally we've never joined the breakfast at the Notting Hill Gate Hotel - so we can't rate it. But right at the corner in front of the hotel is this wonderful Italian restaurant, you really should try out! The stuff was quite nice but the software for the keycards was down and we've had our room on the 4th floor. So the stuff gave us a new card, which was unable to open the door, too. We've had to run down to the reception three times because the person didn't want to come up - that was really bad and unfriendly. Whatever, it was quite okay - tiny rooms, but nice and the bed was comfortable.

the hotel was nice, except for having no lift, and walking up 4 flights of stairs was not ideal. rooms were clean but too small. the breakfast area could be alittle bigger to provide for more people eating and not feeling so cramped up. Overall a nice hotel and located in a very good area close to everything was just what we needed.

Newly redecorated hotel. We were lucky to get a newly refurbished and redecorated room in the basement and it was very clean and modern. The surroundings are excellent, Portobello Road is just round the corner and the area is very green and elegant (notting hill). The tube is just few steps away. The only downside is the breakfast room which is just behind the reception. It is really claustrophobic and you may need to queue to get a table. If you leave your bags to be looked after you pay £5. The staff is kind and helpful. Overall we would strongly recommend this hotel.

the room was at the 4th floor, with no elevator . The room was too small for 2 people, kind of dirty, especially the carpet. The only nice part was the toilet, wich was new and clean. In the morning, there was no hot water available before 10 a.m., which was a problem on the last day because we did not have much time. But, despite the above mentioned, the area is safe and the hotel staff are nice and helpful.

Our room was on the top floor and the hotel has no lift, so if you have any problems with that, make sure to ask for a room on one of the lower floors. The room was really small, but clean and well furnished, and the place is really 1 minute away from Notting Hill Gate tube station. So, quite good accommodation overall (especially for the cheap fares).

I thought it was satisfactory for the price I paid. Very handy to buses and underground. Good area to be staying in. My only complaint was the auto closers on the internal door. Big fight to get in the door.

While the hotel was definitely clean - don't bring too much stuff - you couldn't swing a cat in the bedroom, no room for anything - and it was a double room!! Almost claustrophobic, we asked to get moved to a bigger room, but they never got back to us! And tight on towels (just one bath towel each and one hand towel - no bath mat or hand towel each). We had to ask for more towels and pillows. And I don't think I've stayed in any hotel which charge for paying by credit card.! But that said, great location!
