Hotel Reviews The Sumner

The hotel was located on a quiet place while the tourists spots are just a couple of minutes' walk. The hotel must be old, but completely refurbished with modern facilities. We enjoyed the stay. Above all, the room was maintained very clean throughout our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful.

This hotel, just a couple of blocks from Hyde Park and Marble Arch is marvelous. We arrived very early in the morning (8 am) on check-in day and naturally, our room wasn't ready. We were told noon, and they even offered us breakfast, however, when we popped back in at 9 to get something we'd forgotten in our suitcase, the room was ready. We were delighted. Bathroom was lovely, and room was very clean and well kept. Only (minor) complaint was that we could clearly hear people coughing in the next room at times. We stayed 3 nights, and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Free wi-fi connection throughout the facility worked very well.

This hotel was a real gem, worth every praise that was given to it in previous reviews. Comfortable, beautiful, clean, quiet and the staff was extremely helpful. Very good restaurants within walking distance. Just perfect.

Was a welcome change from the impersonal service of chain hotels. Appreciate that the quoted rate included breakfast and taxes, no hidden fees. Was nice that residents' lounge included computer with internet access available to guests at no charge in addition to tour books, etc.

Very nice hotel. We don't have actual comparison to other hotels in London but judging from other reviews, this one is exceptionally good for its price. Very friendly staff, nice room, very nice bathroom, breakfast was all right (nothing special, but nothing to complain about). Considering the location ideally suited for tourist trips.

Lovely hotel. Perfect for two ladies on a London weekend. Service could not be better. Coming back soon! Nice, clean air, like only a non-smoking hotel can provide!

Hotel reception, room etc all very pleasantly furnished and very comfortable bed. Staff courteous but welcome was cool rather than effusive. Very disappointed with breakfast: room in basement has no character and hot food stood for long time (cold poached eggs), chewy croissants, cheap jam in individual plastic etc.

Very comfortable hotel friendly and helpful staff, the perfect place to stay in central London. I really cannot fault it.

We had a de lux room at the ground floor. We would like that the windows was soundproof. It was a bit traffic noise in the mornings and evenings. The room it self was large and tastfully desingned

This is a high quality small hotel in a very pleasant part of the capital. Our room was well-decorated, spacious with a very comfortable bed. The room rate was a little higher than I would normally pay for a short city break but we were celebrating a special occasion and it was worthwhile. The breakfasts were decent and perfectly acceptable although perhaps not outstanding. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend the Sumner to other travellers.

Very nice boutique hotel--very comfortable, like staying at a nice house. Close to Marble Arch tube station, had plenty of restaurants of different choice nearby, pleasant and competent staff, nice neighborhood (close to Hyde Park). I highly recommend it!

We had a wonderful stay at the Sumner. The staff was accomodating and helpful. There were several very nice touches for a moderately priced hotel: a box of facial tissues in the room, plugs which could be switched from 110 to 220 and which accomodated European and American plugs, double paned windows to keep out the street noise (although the street is relatively quiet for London) and breakfast was great with a choice of scrambled or poached eggs, cooked ham or bacon and beans, cold meats & cheeses, juices, and cereals with yogurt. The room was a comfortable size, but the bathroom was small, though adequate. There were no drawers for folded clothes, although there were cubbies in the closet.

This hotel was the cleanest I have ever stayed in, and the most subtly understated. It is also the quietest I've known in central London. The staff were charming, polite, very helpful and friendly without being over-familiar. The breakfast food quality was good. My only gripes (and they are minor): although we requested a late check-out, reception called us in the morning; and the breakfast selection was sparse, with no option of full English. However I would certainly stay again.

England is expensive but the Sumner was a real good find. Great location, great staff, breakfast was good, small rooms but very up to date.

We were in a basement room which was very noisy if we did not have earplugs with us this would have been a big issue. Other wise great hotel, great staff, great location and good price for central London.

We travelled at the beginning of November 2007. The room at the Sumner was delightfully airy and worth the entrance price... this is the first hotel we have ever stayed in in London where you actually felt you could breathe because of its size. The letdown to us was the breakfast room which was a pokey room in the basement of the hotel with plastic chairs. If you go for the rooms alone though - well worth the visit.
