The single rooms are tiny and do not offer good value for money. The toiletries offered are very poor - I even had to ask the concierge for a shower cap. He disappeared into a locked room and emerged carrying one which he handed to me with a look of distaste!

Best features of the hotel are competent helpful staff, very quick help in resolving room problems, very close to Russell Square tube station whose Piccadilly line runs directly from Heathrow, lots of stores and restaurants nearby including a pleasant shopping center (the Brunswick), and quiet room with good lighting and spacious new bathroom. Features needing improvement include shabby and rather unclean room carpeting and upholstery, lack of air conditioning, very pricey Internet access, and expensive breakfast with a cost of about 25 US dollars. Fortunately there are cheap Internet cafes and modest-priced eating places nearby plus grocery stores. Despite some problems, I would stay at the Russell again because its good points exceed those needing change.

The hotel did meet at most points our standard, but the room was much to small for double occupancy (we were with one single and a couple). The single room seemed even to be some larger as the double. The toilet in the bathroom was too close to the double bed. At first there was no showergel and only one pair of towels. Those who took care of the rooms were very friendly and helpful, but it took more than half an hour foe the missing supplies to be delivered. If a smaller room is no problem, I would certainly recommand this hotel. The serving of the breakfast was more than excellent. You have to stay in this hotel with this unique victorian look, at least once a lifetime ! Highly recommendable !

High value hotel with very nice rooms, we were lucky to get an upgrade to a traditional suite for a small surcharge. We liked it very much because of the "antique" furniture. They offer also contemporary rooms with very modern furniture, but that's a matter of taste. The hotel is very well located, tube and bus station in front, but you can also do the sightseeing by foot. The bar ist very nice, but totally overpriced. We did not take the breakfast, but the facilities and the food looked very good. They also offer dinner and lunch. Overall, we would recommend the hotel for a nice stay at London.

First time I stayed here. Room was clean and 'London-size' but internet access did not work. Friendly and efficient staff moved me to a new room the next day - all fine. Very convenient location for both the West End and the City and don't miss the new restaurants and shops just around the corner opposite the tube station.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. The receptionist and the concierge are very welcoming and helpful, but the cleaners are not particularly hard working or polite. The building is very nice, but old, and even the big refurbishment doesn't solve some of the problems typical of an old building. Overall, if the location is not a decisive factor as it was for me, I would recomend staying at a different hotel for the same price.

The Hotel Russell was a divine hotel to stay at in terms of the architectural and interior merit. The room was pleasant and cosy, but well designed to maximise space. Unfortunately the hotel fell down when we called for room service. The room service staff were rude, stating that we had the incorrect room service menu and that we couldn't have the sandwich we wanted. When it arrived, the staff expected cash when we had been asked top leave our credit details at the desk for room service and to top it off the sandwich was inedible and certainly overpriced at £11. If we had avoided the room service it would have been an 8/10, but the service brought it down to a 6/10.

The underground is just around the corner. A nice part across the street, and British Museum just a few blocks. The hotel is ok, breakfast is ok, but to charge £5 for an adapter is way over what's reasonable.

My room was upgraded on arrival to a lovely spacious double with views over Russell Square. I chose this location for business purposes and was impressed by the wide public corridors which give a sense of grandeur rare in London.I did not use the restaraunts/bars but the room was superb.

It was a disaster from start to finish - firstly they couldn't find by booking. Then the room was hideous, a single room which was dingy and old. THe bed was uncomfortable, an old mattress from the 70's and the room was so noisey I didn't really get much sleep. I asked if they could rectify the problem and they said I would only get a similar room. I didn't try the room service, cause I figured if the room was that bad, who knows what the food will be like. Really disappointing.

For the money they could improve size of rooms and appearance of common areas.

The room was not in line with the expectations I had for a 4 star hotel, being rather old, very simple and not very well equipped.
