We (family with 2 adult daughters) spent 3 nights and enjoyed it. Breakfast was ok, the beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean, one room was very big. The hotel is near Lancaster Gate Tube Station. We will surely stay there again, if we come back to London.

The receptionist was very nice and gave us a room early, since our flight to London arrived there in the morning. The family room was spacious and clean. The area around the hotel does not have many places for breakfast or a quick meal, but the metro station is close enough. It was nice to walk to Hyde Park, which is near the hotel. Our overall experience was very pleasant at London Guards.

In the lobby/public area, the floors need serious renewal/refinishing. It is not a good first impression. Some of the front desk staff are not as welcoming as I'm accustomed to and some are not as fluent in English as others. The location of the hotel is very good and located near the tube and restaurants/business district.

Cleaning staff was friendly and very correct. Breakfast-retaurant staff correct, polite, very attentive,a pleasure. The reception provided no service at all. The woman's sulky face from our arrival, the unwillingness to do anything for the guests. The lift was out of order for two days. "I have made a call", she said, but nothing happened. The safe was repaired, because I insisted on it, it took an hour before a man turned up to fix it. "Not to worry", he said, "2/3 of the safes do not work". At our arrival we had forms to fill in. "Get it done now", the sulky woman uttered, "I have to leave at 22,30 hours". No politeness, no chance of facial expression, nothing. She was definately no adorn or advantage to the hotel and should never have been employed in a hotel reception. I could add a lot of minor problems, perhaps not very important, but nevertheless of incomfortable nature. Naturally I am unable to recommed this hotel to anyone.

Trés bon établissement : situation géographique, propreté, calme, espace de vie, qualité literie, petit déjeuner français copieux et varié. Donne envie d'y retourner lors d'un prochain séjour à Londres.

Very nice hotel - clean, calm and friendly, situated closed to Hyde Park and T-station, nice surroundings. The room was little, but we were 3 persons, so therefore .... The bathroom was spacious, everything OK. The breakfast was quite OK and the servers friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay at this hotel another time and recommend it to other persons.

It was ok, considering the price. Though, we got a room with "grand lit" instead of two separate beds the first night. (We had made reservation for twin room). But there was no problem to change. Staff was ok but not very service minded, not unfriendly, but un-interested in the guests.

The breakfast was terribly bad! The croissant were very very dry! The cheese and jams were old also very dry. The rooms were quite well, but the bathroom was a hell!!! The bath was very dirty, the cochroachs and spiders were crawling in it. The toilet were not clean, and the tap were full of ossifies. In the end, the hotel is much too expensive in comparison with the quality!

The best one of five tourist hotels we have used in the Bayswater district. Situated in a nice, quiet square. Clean and nicely decorated rooms which vary very much in size, though. No street noise, but we could hear the air condition. Good modern lift. The continental breakfast was good for the room price in which it was included. Service in the breakfast room was good. We haven´t used any reception service, so we don´t have an opinion of it. This was our second stay at the London Guards. If prices are kept at today´s level we will be back during our next stay in London.

It was almost everything terrible: the hotel was too difficult to find (everytime there was someone calling the recepcionist to get directions), they don´t help you with your baggage (and there are many stairs 'til you get in your room!) and the staff isn't friendly at all. I heard everytime the door next to mine opened or someone walked in the room. The heating isn't efficient (even in the winter!!) and they charge 5£ per minute in an international call, even if the book next to the phone is written: "3 minutes costs aprox. 5£". I paid three times more on my calls and the recepcionist said that it was my problem, 'cause I was CRAZY to call brazil. that NO ONE calls brazil. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone. There are many others near "London Guards", at Lancaster Gate.

A nice location and area of the city by Hyde Park. The breakfast was good enough, not fantastic. Very good for the low-budget price. 5 minutes from the nearest Tube stop - Lancaster Gate Station. And only 10 minutes from the nearest train stop - Paddington Station. Makes getting around the city reasonable, although expect to do a lot of commuting if you are touring London. Rooms small but big enough. Had a fridge, that was really nice. Only hotel in the UK that had a fridge. The double bed was a bit small and not extremely comfortable, but good enough.

I stayed with my 2 kids for 4 days between Christmas and new year, 27.12.08-31.12.08. The reception was very good, we arrived around 11:00 my daughter was not feeling well and they made their best to get a room 40 minutes later (normally from 14:00). Breakfast is a buffet and was very good. Poeple are kind and helpful. I was very pleased and will recommend the hotel further.

The staff were extremely nice & helpful except for the female receptionist who was on duty when we arrived. I told her that I am deaf & asked her to speak more slowly ( her strong Indian accent did not help with my problem) She was very sullen & impatient. She could probably benefit from a remedial course in customer relations. Other than that,as I said, the rest of the staff, housekeeping & reception, were very courteous & efficient. We were, however, quite taken aback by the behaviour of the staff in the restaurant & bar. We felt like the proverbial "whore in church". Though this Russian restaurant is open to the hotel guests, it quickly became obvious to us that it is some sort of Russian club & we were not members. We were served quickly & the food was delicious, but we were glad to leave as our reception was chilly to say the least.Though I live in the USA I am British with a British Passport & I did not appreciate being treated in this way by immigrants That being said,we were very pleased with the hotel. It's just a little shabby but very clean & comfortable & in a nice area.

My wife and I stayed here in late October 2008. We found the room small but quiet. The bath was up to date. The personnel at the front desk was knowledgable but not very friendly, however, they were helpful. The breakfast area was small but eating was done in shifts to avoid crowding. The property was difficult to get to by tube from Victoria Station, requiring 3 changes within a short period of time. It was convenient to Paddington Station which was important to us with an early Heathrow departure time. There really were no negatives to the stay and we would probably stay again. The value was good.

Our experience with this hotel was somewhat negative overall. First off, when we arrived they tried to put us into a room in their basement, right by the breakfast room and the staff areas. When we saw the room and where it was located, we asked for another room, especially considering we had booked months in advance. After some resistance (the front desk person said the hotel was very busy and mostly booked), we were eventually given a room on the fourth floor - 401. The room was nice...but it wasn't till the evening that we started hearing this noise which we discovered was the heating/ac system -fortunately we were so tired by the end of a busy day of sightseeing that we were able to tune the noise out. The hotel is adequate on most counts - it's nicely decorated, clean, fairly convenient to a tube station (Lancaster Gate - about a 5-10 minute walk), the breakfast was okay - yogurt, toast with jams, cereals, croissants (pretty bad ones), fruit, cheese, juices and coffee/tea. We did find the reception desk staff somewhat terse and unhelpful, and not very friendly. I think in the future we'll try to find another hotel in London.

Location was excellent. Breakfast room was really crappy - to small, we had to wait in line even if we had ordered a seating at 9 o-clock, and the self service for food didn't function good enought. Too few toasters for so many guests!! And slow serving of tea/coffe. Clearly understaffed, to few waiters!!

Good place to stay for a short 5-10 days. Close to bus stop and underground (subway). Appreciated close by pubs (Swan, Mithre,...)and restaurants. Also near Paddington station if arriving by train or from Heathrow (15 min. walk). We really appreciated our stay at London Guards and took the breakfasts every morning so we could leave early for visits. We also ate at a good Italian restaurant on Craven Hill Rd. near paddington station. Real good! VB.

Our twin room was big enough and had the basics. The sloping floor (apparantly common in "historic" properties) was disconcerting at first, but the beds had been adjusted to compensate and we soon became used to it, even enjoyed the novelty. The hotel is situated close to the Central line tube stations and a few minutes walk to Queens Way and Notting Hill for plenty of restaurant choice. Being across the road from Hyde Park was a plus, and so was being close to a larger hotel where tour companies do pick ups. Value for money.

Excellent location. Near hyde Park and tube. Lancaster gate is turning left and right, so one has to search a little bit. The room we were in was very spacey (M3), the furniture was some what out of date, as was the bathroom. But every thing was present and clean. The staff was very friendly.

Look elsewhere. Rooms were small and reached via narrow corridors and warren of landings and flights of staircases, beds incredibly uncomfortable. Small breakfast room quite inadequate for number of guests so one had to 'book' a time the night before. Front desk staff when asked to call a London taxi for transport to station, called a private car hire at exorbitant charge. Not a good experience.

While a few people at London Guards were acceptably nice, the stay was far from good. Upon reserving, I thought I was signing up for a rate of 99 pounds. When I rec'd the rec't it said the room rate was 150 pounds. Unfortunately, I did not check the rect' carefully before we left for the hotel. My husband signed us in and neither he nor I realized that he was signing up for 150 pounds per night. A sign at the hotel posted that 150 pounds was the rack rate. So much for a discounted hotel at venere.com. The hotel was being repaired and painted, but they elected to paint the main hallway, not at night where people were not using it, but in the middle of the day where it was very in the way. They were repairing something one night at 9:45 that was noisy with saws and drills. Someone came to the lobby to see if people were complaining (which I had just done) and the front desk person said, "Not really" I said, "Yes, they are complaining!" When we arrived, we were told we were in G8. No one showed us to our room and it was not easy to find as there were no signs, three doors and two corners and a staircase to get to it. We had lots of baggage and small children and no one offered to help show us to the room or help with any of the bags. Breakfast was a total joke. The "croissants" looked like they had been sat on, the other pieces were extremely substandard, espeically for a rate of 150 pounds! Yuk, and servers (who were the only people who smiled) would only bring one small cup of tea or coffee and would never come back. The breakfast room was too small and several people had to wait 10 -15 mins before a table came open. The room was very noisy with a return air vent that ran all night long, the bathroom smelled like mildew and the room smelled like mold. The sheets and blankets were unbelievably scratchy and the pillows were flattened, used up pancakes. Finally, when we asked for a taxi to be called to take us to the train station, the hotel called a p

This hotel advertises air conditioning, but turns the chiller off at night! So, you get tepid air blowing. The hotel is clean and comfortable, breakfast is fine, but there is a real problem ordering a cab here. I ordered a cab and got an "independant" cab, unlicensed, completely illegal, who tried to talk our party into turning in our tickets on the Gatwick Express and letting him take us to the airport for a huge amount of money presented as a "bargain." We demanded that he let us out of the cab, he called his "boss", who instructed him to take us back to the hotel. Apparently this happened to another group the night before, and the hotel says it cannot call a regular cab. A scam for sure, which is too bad, because all else was OK.

I stayed at London Guard Hotel with my adult daughter and her three sons aged 15, 10, and 9 years, arriving close to 10pm at night. We where on route to visit relatives in the north staying in London four nights. We shared a family room which accomadated us nicely with two double beds and a single, the beds where very comfortable, the room was clean and tidy. The breakfast staff where very pleasent and their service was excellent, breakfast was enjoyable and plentyful. We found the lift handy when having to carry our suit cases up and down to the room on check in and check out. The hotel is situated close to most attractions in London and the buses are close by on Bayswater Road. We where even quite close to the Jason's canal boat rides near Paddington at Little Venice, which are well worth a visit. I would reccomend this hotel to enyone visiting London either as a couple or with children. The staff are helpful and pleasent.

The room was clean and very spacious our three nine year old could sprall over the floor . The fridge was a bonus . There could have been decaf tea in the rooms and at breakfast . The continental breakfast was basic, the toaster slow and tea very weak . But overall was just about adequete for our needs A selection of fruit would have been appreciated .The proximity to Hyde Park was ideal for the kids .We left a book at the hotel which they sent back to me the same day . My only concern was the taxi the hotel ordered for us cost £22 to Euston station where as the black cab had cost us £10 from the station to the hotel !!Overall we all had a great time in london the kids thoroughly enjoyed there first trip to london .The hotels location was brillant for all the main attractions . We walked to Buckingham Palace , The Mall , Whitehall and The Houses of Parliament through Hyde park and St james park about 4miles but alovely walk that avoided the roads .

It was wonderful to find a hotel that would take a family of 5 in such a convenient location. The hotel was generally quiet and friendly. The room fitted a double and three single beds without being crowded and was clean. The staff were helpful when needed. The only problem we had was at breakfast (which was very basic) where we often had to wait for a table to become available and then try to squash the five of us onto a table for 4 without disturbing those around us. The setup for breakfast was probably the most inefficient I have seen which could be easily solved.

Location is excellent! Right opposite Kennsington gardens. Nearest Tube Station, Lancaster Gate, is only 5 mins walk. The Swann Pub on the front street, 2-3 mins from hotel, serves lovely food. The bar in the hotel is tiny! We stayed in a 5 person room for two nights - all girls so you can imagine the mess! but there was plenty of room - was very impressed with the size! The location of the hotel is very close to the underground "Lancaster Gate", directly in front of the Hyde Park. The room was very small, but clean and the room keeping was very good (every day). The breakfast was just toast, croissants, jam, cheese and muesli. Not typical continental breakfast. We just take it one day. The price of the hotel was o.k for that location, but our price was 79 GBP. The standard price for our room in the hotel was 130 GBP. That is too expensive for the small room, but you are in the central of London. On the way to the hotel is a very nice pub " The Swan", the meal is very good. In generall we would stay here again next time in London.

No surprises after reading reviews. Great location, close to transport and easy walking distance of many interesting areas. Rooms and price adequate, as long as one is comparing price and conditions with London hotels. Would not compare well with North- amerinan standards. Rooms vary widely. We rented two , one was fine, the other not so much. They were dated but clean, however,I did bring a London bug back in my luggage! It must be the dampness. Breakfast very basic but ok so one does not have to rush out when hungry. Odd coffee! Staff was generally helpfull and polite. A pleasant hotel, well located, close to Hyde Park and bus stops. A spacious room, well furnished even if some pieces are worn, well heated. However breakfast was a disaster : I even will not insist on the bad quality of food but imagine a ten tabled dinning room with only one toaster, a domestic model, very slow and just able to cook two slices of bread at a time. You have to queue a long time to get your two slices and join your table to have your tea or coffee, cold because the waitress served it as you entered the dinning room. On the first day we wondered if that was a hoax, with a hidden camera.....

I travelled with my 7 yr. old daughter and a friend. We were in london for a concert at the O2 Arena. The hotel is difficult to find if you walk from Paddington station, but a helpful postman showed us the way.Its about a 7 minute walk. The decor is bright but oldfashioned, but you expect that in London as the buildings are all quite old.The reception staff all appear to be asian, they have good english but the accent might be a problem for some people. The location of this hotel is excellent.A 3 minute walk to Lancaster gate tube station and then just 2 stops to Bond street station which is on Oxford Street.Hyde Park is literally on your doorstep. The underground system is excellent and easy to follow.Buy a one day pass for £5 and hop on and off as much as you like. All the sights are close to the hotel or else just a few stops away on the tube.I would definitely recommend this hotel to those on a budget and would stay there again if in London.

We did book, a few months ago, two rooms. With the specific request for two adjacent rooms, as one room was for our son. When we checked-in, we discovered we had a room at the top floor and a ‘room’ in the basement! When asking the reception for a modification, we heard it was not possible, and even that we never asked for it. The so called room in the basement had following negative points, next to the distance with us: the room was stinking to moisture and it was located between the restaurant and the toilets! The animation in the restaurant was playing very loud music until past midnight which did not allow us to sleep until then. Furthermore we asked several time the reception to have the music stopped, which was each time promised to us but never was done. The room at the fourth floor had following negative points: no heating in the room nor in the bathroom (which nobody could fix), nearly no light in the bathroom and no warm water in the morning!

We spent 4 nights here. The price for the quality of the hotel was outstanding. The location was quiet yet convenient to Paddington Station (4 blocks) and bus connections around London. The Underground was close by also. It's only 1 1/2 blocks from Kensington Gardens. The personnel were all very accommodating and friendly. I'd definitely stay here again.

I was pleasantly surprised at the standard of this hotel for the price. It is in a quiet location in a good area located close to transport links to all the major attractions of the city. We had a quite a big room at the back of the hotel which was very quiet, the only criticism I have is that the room was very cold. The heating was only on for a very short time in the morning and evening, not so good for cold November days!! Overall our stay was very pleasant except for the cold room.

For the price - this is an excellent Hotel- Our room (106) was nice, clean and had a good view. The staff were friendly and efficient. The Location is excellent- 5 minute walk from the Lancaster gate station and Hyde park and in a very nice neighborhood. Breakfast is very simple- but enough to get you started. All in all we were very please and will return.

The hotel was dated and dingy. Our room was very large, but the furnishings and carpet were old and worn. The TV only got 3 channels. There was construction noise from a building behind the hotel. It was a nice neighborhood and only about 5 blocks to the Underground station. The continental breakfast was cereal, toast, juice, and coffee....nothing noteworthy. It was too far to travel by tube from the train station with luggage, but it was only 9 pounds by taxi from Victoria Station. The front desk staff were not particularly helpful. They offered to "hold" our luggage for our later flight, but that meant leaving it in the lobby, and the desk was frequently unattended. They gave us wrong information about taxi fares. All-in-all, the place was kind of a dump, but it was much cheaper than most of the hotels we looked at, so I guess we got what we paid for.

Quite nice hotel near to Hyde Park. The staff were very polite and helpfull, the hotel is quite average but fairly good value. I think you could find a lot worse in London. Give it a try.

This is a superb hotel, especially for the price. Our room was huge, the windows overlooking the square and Hyde Park were 4 metres high. The room on the first floor was spacious and well equiped with tea/coffee and a fridge, the bathroom similar and kept to a high standard. The staff were well spoken, polite, extremely smart and the management even sent a follow up letter. The self service breakfast was of a good standard and the staff were smiling and helpful. It doubles as an Armenian restaurant in the evening which i must try on my next visit. The hotel is so convenient and quiet.I have found no where better to stay in London and will certainly revisit it.

WE GOT THE ROOM OVER THE BAR, AND ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. THEY PARTIED TILL 3 AM. BUT THE BAR WAS CLOSED ON SUNDAY AND QUIET THE OTHER TWO NIGHTS. LOVED THE LOCATION, A MINUTE FROM THE SWAN, THE TUBE, QUEENSWAY AREA AND THE PARK, THE MAGNIFICENT HYDE PARK. A TWO STORY HOTEL ROOM WAS A KICK.

We requested a twin room and got a double bed and a metal cot that was marginally comfortable. The breakfast was adequate but basic. The location was great, right across the street from Hyde Park and close to two underground stations. The rooms were clean and everything worked fine. For the money and location it was a good value. We will consider staying here again.

This is a very good hotel. The location was excellent, the room spacious and clean, the breakfast good, refrigerator in the room saved us a lot of money, and the value for London was just brilliant. I dont think there is better value in Europe when compared to some of the places we stayed that were booked by our travel agent at double the price. Every booking we made with Venere represented very good value for money. All of our Venere bookings were absolutely seamless, no hitches at all. I will stay at the London Guards any time I visit London in the future.

We stayed here for 5 nights on reviews from this site. We had absolutely no problems with this hotel at all. It is a little tired but being so close to everything made up for it. Our rooms were serviced everyday. We booked a room for 2 adults and 2 children but were lucky to get a room which had two separate bedrooms with a fridge and tea/ coffee making facilites. Perfect for storing snacks and drinks for the kids. The reception staff were hard to understand but very accommodating and certainly not rude and went out of their way to help us in anyway with our kids. The breakfast was enough for what you needed to get you started in the morning and the girls that served us were fantastic and beautiful in nature. Once again, the hotel was very close to Lancaster Gate tube, bus stop that took you to places you wanted to go, Hyde Park across the road and pubs and restaurants down every street. We didn't come across a supermarket but there were plenty of little convenience stores that stocked water, fruit and essentials. A laundromat was around the corner for washing and drying clothes. I would not recommend this place if you are going to lounge around in the room all day.

The twin room I booked was very spacious, with one double and one single bed. It also had a bigger-than-avarage tv set and fridge. One thing I didn't like was a stange noise that came from the bathroom's ventilation system which seemed to be keep working also at night when all the lights were off (it wasn't too loud though). Overall a very nice stay.

Hotel rooms nicely decorated and very spacious. Bathroom maybe a bit on the small side. Breakfast rather poor and Breakfast room very small so sometimtes longs queues. Nevertheless a good hotel, in a quiet area and close to bus and tube. Perfect location for a short stay in London. Really good value for money in London!!

Hard to find but that's why it's quiet. Continental breakfast has been upgraded. Some rooms are subterranean with bars on the windows. I would request a room above the first floor. Can't beat it for the price.

I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of this hotel. There were clean sheets and towels but otherwise very dirty. The carpets, walls, blankets and eating area were all extremely dirty and cigarette holes in the blankets and tableclothes of eating area. I will not recommend this hotel or stay there again.

We stayed four nights at the London Guards, and enjoyed the central location and efficiency of staff. We wouldn't recommend the breakfast (even though signs were posted saying it had been improved). There is a great internet cafe just down the street which serves delicious breakfasts .
