The Cardiff is my favourite hotel when staying in London. Rooms and service are standard for this kind of small and favorable hotels. Dont't expect too much! But the breakfast of The Cardiff makes the difference between other hotels in the area! Beside a full English breakfast you could choose between a variety of cereals, fruits and yoghurt/curd at a buffet. Help yourself with orange and apple juice as well. You have the choice between brown and white toast. The service is friendly and quick. They will ask you whether you want some more toast if your tray is already empty. PERFECT! Unbeatable location: In two minutes you'll reach Paddington tube station or the bus stop. Or go about 5 minutes and find yourself in the middle of the Hyde Park. The little park in front of the house will protect you from the traffic noise of Praed Street. PERFECT!

I had only a shower no toilet in my single but only one other person has used it during my stay. Breakfeast was sober but ok. Next to Paddington station, day and night to reach by bus or underground. All kind of restaurants and shops open untill 2 am in the area. I will come back.

In London, what do you really expect for $50/night? I think Cardiff exceeds expectations. Location is awesome! Upon check-in, the clerk upgraded me to a room with shower/toilet en-suite. Very nice! You have to hold your breath before swinging the door open to any budget London hotel room. They're usually dollhouse small, old and dingy. Small, yes, but Cardiff did impress. The single room was clean and nice. It even had a desk. The bathroom was spotless. If you're a typical American, ie. overweight, good luck on managing the shower. I'm 5'11", normal weight and I barely was able to turn around in the teeny shower stall. The shower head was at nose level. Advice: Have a sense of humor before bathing. The included English-breakfast was wonderful. My only complaint, lack of free internet. Practically every other establishment gives it away, why stick UK travelers with yet another expense. Just coming to London, we're agreeing to spend almost double on everything. It's cheaper to use the internet cafes around Paddington Station. This may be the only reason I wouldn't stay at Cardiff in the future...it's a shame. It's a great place, otherwise.

quite central; close to the tube station "paddington ", and Hyde park 10 mns walk if you feel like resting after shopping, and see and feed the squirrels - they come and eat in your hand if you give them nuts!!! we had a wonderful time and weather on top!!! 30°! quite rare for London at mid August.

I stayed at this hotel for the weekend before I had to be in London for business. I did not think this hotel was bad as London is not cheap. I stayed in a tiny room that looked like it had been a part of the attic at one point in the building's history. There are no elevators so you have to climb stairs (very narrow, small ones). My room was clean but there was a lot of noise throughout the day and night. The breakfast room was nice and I liked that this was included in the price. I would recommend this to single travelers or young (very) couples who need to save money.

First I received a room on a ground floor with a disgusting smell and a wet carpet. The person at the reception desk (great thanks to her!) checked my room and immediately changed it to another one. Then I received a dubble room (no single rooms available) on a third floor. Altough the hotel has no lift, it was not any problem to me. This was my second stay this year in Cardiff hotel and I will definitely return. Great location and breakfast!

Our six day stay at The Cardiff Hotel was very enjoyable (triple room). The hotel room was cozy with a double and single bed, but it was very comfortable. The hotel is located steps away from Paddington train station and the underground. This makes traveling anywhere in London or to and from Heathrow easy. The hotel is situated in a busy little area, but it's located just far enough off the main street across from a park to be quiet (our room was on ground level at the front). It was very hot during our stay with no air conditioning; however, we kept the large window open and we were quite comfortable. A wide, deep outside basement access separates the sidewalk from the front of the building which allowed us to keep the window open. Numerous restaurants, pubs and small grocery stores were only steps away. As you will see in other reviews, the breakfast is included and is excellent with a selection of full English or continental. The breakfast area is bright, cheerful, and staffed with smiles (great start to every day we were there). What made our stay at Cardiff Hotel was the location to transportation, a good breakfast when out walking all day, not fancy but a comfortable clean room to go to at the end of the day, and the amenities offered in the area.

We only needed to stay overnight so the choice of the hotel was based on its convenience and accessibility to the airport and Central London. It served our purpose. We had a quad room which isn't easy to book so I'm just glad it had the number of beds we need and a clean shower and toilet. As is more often the case in Europe (unless you stay in name brand chains)the bathrooms are a problem for big people.

The hotel has great location: only few minutes walk to Lancaster gate and Paddington underground. Although there were bars in the hotel surroundings I found the hotel very quiet. The minus was that my room located in the fourth floor and there was no lift. The room was also quite small but ok for three overnightings. The breakfast was very good: traditional english breakfast. I would stay in Cardiff again.

Excellent location, esp for customers taking flight where they can take national express @ Paddington. Also only 2 min walk from Paddington tube station which eased much pain after visit for full day. The famous full breakfast was good which gave you enough back-up before traveling and the waitresses were all very well-mannered and efficient. We stayed for 2 separate periods during our vacation. For the first period, we were given a room in the basement floor, so the room was always dark and noisy cos it was just next to the breakfast area. During our 2nd stay, we asked for a room on the ground floor so we did not have to move the heavy luggages. The park view was excellent and made the whole trip more perfect. Nothing much to complain given its price, proximity to transport and environment.

The size of the sigle en-suite is ok but the bathroom is extremely small which is the smallest I've ever seen! However, the location is excellent which is less than 3-minutes walk from Paddington Station and the surrounding is quiet. The staff are friendly and breakfast is fine. The hotel is definitely a good choice if you travel alone with limited budget.

simple, clean and pretty quiet hotel. very good english breakfast. We were in a family room ( room #1) with one extra bed. This room is not a very good one (maybe the last available) because located underground (no natural light), with a *very* little bathroom/toilets of 2 square meters: very difficult to shave in the morning and impossible to take a shower without flooding the room... so I recommend you ask for another room than the room #1 (hoping others are better).

Solo traveller. Great location for a speedy arrival or departure. You can almost see Paddington Station from the hotel, so catching the Paddington Express train from Heathrow and getting to the Cardiff is easy. Room small, but functional. Location great. Hop on the local bus and see the sites for next to nothing. All in all a good hotel in a great convenient location.

It's a great location - maybe 200 meters from Paddington Station. We stayed in a "quad" in the basement. A warning: the quad would have been a comfortable twin. Also, they ran out of hot water after one short shower, and a comment from the front desk implied this was due to the basement location. My daughter came across a mouse in the room (probably because the kitchen is also in the basement) and the staff relocated my daughter and wife to another room for the night at no charge while my son and I braved the mouse.

This is the fourth time I have stayed in this hotel, and was by far my worst experience. Main problem was that the room was tiny (too small for a cupboard although had hangers in the open room; en-suite was so small that your feet were (literally) in the shower when sitting on the toilet). It was room 36 (a single) on the top floor. Note that there are a number of other much better (and larger) single rooms in other parts of the hotel, so if you get offerred this room I would recommend asking whether they have any others. The towels did not look particularly clean. Overall, if this had been the first time I had stayed at the hotel, I would never have returned. However, as I have previously experienced the better rooms, I will use the hotel again: I will just try to make sure I get one of the better rooms!

I stay at the Cardiff on most of my visits to London. It is conveniently situated for buses and tubes to all parts of the capital, is efficiently run and reasonably-priced and includes a goos breakfast in the price. Most rooms are quite small - especially the en-suite facilities - but the beds are comfortable.

This is the second time I have stayed here. Each time I have had a single room, and each time the room has been larger than what you would expect for a central London hotel. The only poor aspect of my stay was when I was at breakfast: one of the waitresses was putting clean cutlery in the rack when she dropped a knife on the floor. Rather than taking it back to be washed again, she put it in the clean cutlery rack.

The Cardiff is a good place to stay in London. OK, so the basin area in my single room was "poky" but Heh! I had great nights sleeps. It was comfy and suited me. If I'd wanted Luxury and Space, I'd have gone to somewhere double the price. I'll be going back again.

The room was small but adequate. We stayed on the third floor and this did become tiresome after a while (especially with baggage) as there was no elevator. The breakfast was very good. Location was very good and easy to get to from Paddington Station. There are lots of places to get meals nearby. Overall, pleased with the selection of this hotel.

Excellent location (50m from Praed St exit of Paddington Station) and value. I noticed that many reviewers have said the rooms are small. I must have been lucky, because the single room I had was significantly larger than what you normally get for a single room in London (but it was actually a single - I hadn't been upgraded to a double). Tremendous value for money: £42 including a full English breakfast in Central London. The showroom had recently been refurbished, and was small but clean and had everything that I needed. One of the features I particularly liked in the bedroom was the fact that there was a decent bright light on the ceiling which meant you could actually see to work at the desk (unlike the subdued lighting which now seems to be the norm in hotels). Overall I thought this was very good value and I would certainly stay here again.

This hotel represents excellent value for London (which tends to be expensive), and is situated very close (less than 200 metres) from Paddington Station. The room is reasonably sized and well-maintained. Breakfast is included, which is a nice touch. Unfortunately it was very noisy on the day I stayed there, as there was a festival in the park next to the hotel, but hopefully this is not a regular occurrence! However, overall, I would recommend this hotel without hesitation, as I believe it offers great value.

Good location, with friendly and competent staff. I was warned beforehand that my room might be a bit noisy as it was facing the road, but with the window shut the noise could hardly be heard and I slept like a baby. The room was fine (us Scandinavians would always have liked it cleaner but it was better than many hotels I've stayed in). The hotel is not an option for disabled travellers because of the stairs and narrow doors. Breakfast was ok but hardly as good as it's made out to be. Overall a good hotel in this price range, and I will definitely consider staying here again.

Norway, Jul 2008
The hotel is exellently situated with loads of restaurants near by. Many attractions in walking (or a short bus trip) distance. Some of the restaurants near Paddington are very crowded with tourists and not the best quality, but try to go in direction Edgeware road. You will find many quiet, well run restaurants there. The park outside is like the garden of the hotel, very nice in varm days. The staff was very skillful and careing. Full English breakfast is included, wich you don't find everywere in London. The breakfast-room was allways busy, but even so, we never had to wait to get a table. The breakfast staff were very friendly. The main problem of the hotel is the size of the rooms and the size of the beds. Expect tiny rooms with narrow beds. Twin beds are not allways available. The worst thing is the bathrooms. To dress there, or even put your purse in there is not possible. In one of the rooms we rented (a triple and a double) we couldn't even go to the toilet without opening the trousers before we got in. The stairs up is very narrow, and there is no lift. The carpets on the stairs are loose some places, and made us nearly fall a couple of times. Our bathroom were newly decorated, and the rooms were not to bad, allthough very plain. A fan in the room made a huge difference because there are no aircondition. The standard of English hotels, is known to be the worst in Europe, but still very pricy. This hotel is one of them. With that said, this hotel is only one of many of the same bad standard.

Our room was small, but nice. We had a lovely view out our window overlooking the park area. Bathroom was small, but we've had smaller. Breakfast was very good. Staff was friendly and very helpful. The low rating on quietness was due to the usual nighttime noises of downtown London. Overall, nice accommodations for the price. Very good location and easy to get to train and tube. We will stay again next visit.

The staff were cordial and helpful and seemed to be working hard to maintain standards. They served a decent breakfast in clean facilities each morning. We paid for a double room and actually had a triple room which was ok. in size, but the bathroom was tiny! There needs to be some updating done with this facility. There were holes in the sheer curtains, and there were parts of the carpet not attached on the stairs. The stairs were very steep and it was difficult carrying luggage up the 3 or 4 floors to the rooms. Definitely not for persons with any mobility issues or for elderly. No railing on portions of the stairs. Descriptions for accessing the facility from the tube do not indicate that there are no lifts at many major stations, and this necessitates carrying luggage once again up many stairs. My husband and I had a front room and it was very noisy at night; our daughters had a rear room and no problems. Air conditioning or more fans for hot weather would be helpful.

Nice hotel surrounding, and people there are wonderful, but the single room is really to small, and the bath awful, no hotel in Italy could work with rooms like that! anyway, breakfast and people help to forget the other things...and when I'm in London I usually go out and use the room just to sleep.

Great location, and the staff is wonderful. Stayed at the Cardiff for a few days before my business trip started, I would definitely return to the hotel. The breakfast buffet is great, just wish they had more choices on the menu. Sort of got sick of the Traditional English breakfast everyday. Request a room 2nd fl. or higher, the single room I had was in front of the main entrance, and I could hear a lot of foot traffic coming in and out late at night.

This little hotel is run by very nice and helpful folks, and is in a easy-to-find location about 2 short blocks from the Paddington train station, where there is an Express that takes you direct to Heathrow in 15 minutes. It's a great price for a place to sleep, just don't expect luxurious surroundings. My single room was very clean, but quite tiny and basic, just a narrow bed and toilet/shower, no more, but relatively comfortable. If I stretched out my arms I could touch both walls! Some street noise, no lift, and no view (rooms that face the street are probably more scenic). Good breakfast for the price (cereal, yogurt, juice, coffee, tea, bacon, eggs).

Our room was at the basement of the hotel although we had booked a month earlier. We asked for an another room at the other floors but we were told that no room was available. They only told us that we could change the room the second night but we had to pay more. On the internet it was not mentionned that there are rooms at the basement. There was a window to the street were we could only see people legs as our room was at a lower level than the street. There was also a lot of noise as we could hear the trains of the tube passing. The toilet was too small and there was no window so there was always a smell of toilet in the room. We could not leave the room's window open as it was very easily accessible from the street and there could be danger of a thievery. The people at the reception were not very friendly appart from a girl. Only the people working for the breakfast were very helpful and kind. The relationship between price and quality was very poor. I'm sure that we could have an another hotel at the price of 105 pounds/night for a triple room.

I stayed 3 days on the room #60 at the 4th floor. In knew that the elevator wasnt available, it wasnt a problem for me. My room was clean, so it was towels and the bathroom. At the 4th floor I couldnt hear noises from the road. Bathroom was nice and more luxurious than an bathroom of other hotels in the same range. Reiception service was effective (safe-box service included) as well the breakfast room and food. These are the improvable things: 1) The window (just over the bed-pillow) allowed to enter a little cold air (I had to pad it with a towel) 2) The hot water for the shower was pumped at the 4th floor with a pump that didnt guarantee a continue flux of hot water (even following the instructions sticked on the bedroom door) 3) The same pump was noisy when any other room of the same floor asked for hot water 3) Phone wasnt ou tof order 4) TV remote control batteries was probabily flat. (I didnt ask for replacement) In general anyway it was a good hotel, I'll go back there again on the next occasion.

I was on a very quick stop over in London for 24 hours. The room was small but meet my needs completly of a place to sleep for the night at an affordable price. It is only a few blocks to Paddington Station with the airport shuttle train and on a popular city bus route. The desk staff were very helpfull and friendly explaining how I could get to the theatre district ("Wicked" was amazing)and how to take the city buses for a late night self tour of the city. The breakfast which is included was beyond my expectations. The buffet had your regular cold breakfast items and juice but I was pleasantly surprised to also recieve a hot entree with eggs, bacon, and sausage with toast. This is a reasonable hotel well suited for young people with flexible needs in terms of space and facilities. I would not recommend it to someone in need of a comfortable room with slightly more space than bare technical necessity. Our room was in the basement with extremely little space, poor daylight and lacking even a shelf for the toothbrush. Although inexpenive, this was definitely not value for money, and there was no indication of the skimpish room in our confirmation. Staff was pleasant and breakfast was decent, location in pleasant neighbourhood with good public transport and several good restaurants nearby.

The hotel is run by highly committed eastern European staff, which gives it some charm as well as limitations in so far as service is concerned.

The hotel is conveniently located but it has no elevator... I usually do not notice this but I arrived with heavy luggage and had to drag in 3 fligths up... other than that it is a nice hotel and the staff is really nice and helpful

Narrow stairs without lift. But nice breakfast, nice staffs. Wireless LAN can be used with some fee. About within five minutes walk with baggage from Paddington station. In total, the rate relationship between price/quality is very good.

The location was very convenient, a few minutes walk from Paddington Station. My room was quite large for a single traveller, but was in the basement. And the only window was facing the opposite room's window, so I could hear other guests' voices quite clearly. These things being said, I slept fairly well after all. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was quite all right. So if you are looking for a budget hotel in London just for one night, Cardiff Hotel might well be worth considering.

We have traveled all over Europe and stayed in many hotels and this was by far the WORST!!! The rooms were horrible. The floor sloped, the ceiling was caving in and the shower didn't work. The hotel manager was never available to address our concerns and the staff seemed clueless on how to deal with them. I definitely don't recommend this hotel to anyone; you'd have a better stay in a hostel.

Hotel economico ben posizionato. Servizio spartano ma cortese. Stanze piccole, servizi igienici ancor di più. Livello di pulizia discreto anche se la struttura non è certo nuovissima anzi.... Consigliato se si cerca un budget hotel e non si hanno pretese.

I would definitely go there again. It was so close to PAddington station and we could ride the underground all over London. THe breakfast was great and the waitresses were very nice and attended to our food needs for each breakfast. We did the triple for three people and I found the room a great size; it was three times the size of the Russian cruise ship rooms that we had just gotten off of. Size is relative; and I was ok with the Cardiff. we didnt spend a lot of time in the room, anyways. There was plenty of storage space for our stuff and a fan if it got too warm in the room. It was an easy place to get to from London; we got on the Heathrow Express and fifteen minutes later, we were a block and a half away. I also loved the grapefruit every morning at breakfast.

Although the hotel itself was not terribly comfortable (small rooms and minute bathroom), the staff were helpful and the service we received was good. There were no surprises. The location of the hotel makes it worth it all. The price may seem a bit too much for what you get as far as the rooms go, but this is London. I think, this is one of your best options for this price category.

Great inner London hotel ideally situated, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast is high quality english breakfast. I will recommend this to my friends, & return next time I am in London.

Terrific location, 1.5 blocks from Paddington station on a tree-lined square. rooms are small, not surprising for London. Bathrooms were also extremely small, seemed very clean but smelled perpetually damp. Service was very friendly, full english breakfast as promised. Wireless internet is available, but for free.

My second visit, with the same friendly staff. Unfortunately I had been allocated a room on the top floor, reached by 77 steps! As I'm no spring chicken and had a fairly heavy bag, this was a struggle. However the receptionist, although unable to find an alternative room on this occasion, did suggest that I made a request for a more accessible room for my next visit. Good buffet and cooked breakfast included in the price.

Nice hotel for anybody who only wants a place to stay at night. A reasonable price for the room, although one may be surprised by how tiny the tooms were.

Very friendly staff. Breakfast very good. Single room extremely tiny, no wardrobe, absolutely no space in front of wash-basin because it's in a niche. Shower behind wash-basin is ok. Room was situated to Norfolk Square with its green - during sleeping time very often loud crying people outside.

Good value hotel, convenient for underground and bus system. Charming receptionist and decent breakfast included in price. Room small and basic but at my bed was comfortable with good pillows - a rarity in most hotels!

An excellent value-for-money hotel with a great breakfast. Rooms and toilets are tiny but acceptable. Rooms are comfortable though the carpet desperately needs changing. The only inconveniences are the lack of a lift, and the shared iron & ironing board being in the basement dining area. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Second visit: either no en-suite or tiny room -- single bed, no table, have to sidle into shower -- good TV picture though, and still fairly quiet

Very good value for money: fair-sized quiet room with working TV (not always guaranteed even when paying significantly more), small but adequate shower ensuite, and double bed (note this was a free-of-charge upgrade); decent full english breakfast served quite quickly + good breakfast buffet (nice jams, yoghurt, etc); good travel links (around the corner from Paddington); staff were very helpful and promptly confirmed details of my stay.

There was a disturbing, rumbling noise in the early morning of our first two days. No one could help it, or tell what it was. For the rest, this was our third visit and we wel be back for shure. There is a pub near by, very cheap, the restaurants on bayswater street are good.

This was the smallest room I have ever been in. The bathroom/shower room was the size of a RV bathroom I swear. Luckily my wife and I were only there two nites, London was way too expensive for my taste. If you're looking for cheap and don't care about your room, this is for you. If not, go elsewhere. Nice area though, off the beaten path though.

The location of the hotel is perfect for travellers - especially those who come from and leave for Heathrow (we really got there in 15 min!). Lots of restaurants around, city center in 10 min underground reach... However, tou'll have to coexist with steep and narrow stairs (heavy suitcases shalt not pass!), miniscule rooms and facilities (in the single the bathroom looked more like an aircraft lavatory), breakfast from 7 to 9 and separate hot/cold water faucets (crazy british invention!).. Not recommended for romantic couples.
