Hotel Lev - Ljubljana

Hotel Lev claims to be a five star property, however in my opinion it is a four star property. Staff helpful, room small, bar and restaurant in one room not very appealing, but all in all an average experience. Had the hotel been a 4-star hotel, the experience would have been above average. Nothing really bad, nothing really great. Just average. Location is ok too. Internet worked quite well, which is important to me and other business travellers.

While a comfortable hotel, the Lev certainly doesn't meet the five star criteria. I was expecting much more as experienced in other European five star hotels. The staff was indeed competent and friendly and the rooms were comfortable, though very small. Our voices would reverberate or echo as they bounced off the barren walls. Quite unusual. Bathroom ammenities were very limited and not replaced by maid service the second day. There was an "old style" television which offered a good selection of international programing. The hotel bar/lounge was well stocked, however, the staff only knew how to pour beers and whiskeys, no knowledge of mixing cocktails. Unfortuately, beverages are measured pours so don't expect a healthy (?) pour. A little pricy too, but that is expected in hotel bars. Breakfast was wonderful with a nice selection of anything one could desire. Staff was competent and helpful. I stayed here because the hotel has it's own garage (extra charge) and it the location was easy to find. The Lev casino in the hotel was also an added pleasure. The hotel is presently determining which hotel chain to associate itself with. Perhaps when this occurs, standards will be raised.

The hotel was fabulous - great location, amazing buffet breakfast, gorgeous rooms. Great base to explore the nearby Caves and Lake Bled.

Totally over-rated as 5-star - 3 might be more appropriate. Small room, no decoration, bed stank of urine (but it might have been the detergent... strange "clean" smell) and as consequence it was an unpleasant stay. Staff were polite and friendly but no one at check-in when I arrived. Breakfast was not great, coffee was horrible. I paid a bargain low season €105, if I had paid their more usual rates >€150 I would have been furious. Best avoid unless no other options.
