Very good relationship between price/quality. Good location in city centre, very near to all principal services and public transportation. Staff very competent and helpful

Interior of hotel (corridors) small and windy, steep stairs. Elevators only go to selected floors. Room a bit dark due to inadequate lighting. During my stay some loud construction works outside at night time.

The staff was extremely helpful and the location of the hotel makes it easy to drive and very close to the tourist core. It costs much less to stay there while in the same neighborhood as ultra-modern monster hotels. Don't leave your window fully open or the mosquitoes will get you. The elevators make a lot of noise but did not intrude too much.

Excellent address. What a shame that the breakfast-room was too small: a lot of people had to wait for others to leave before having their breakfast!

It would be nice if wireless internet access is provided for free to paying guests at the hotel. It doesn't cost very much overall to provide this.

We stayed 1 night at VIP Inn Veneza because we could not get into a nearby 4-star hotel where we were joining a tour the next day. Although much lower priced, Veneza turned out to be quite adequate. The Bella Ipanema restaurant just down the road, which the desk clerk recommended to us, was a gem and we went back several times.

Overall the facility was fine except for a tacky and not very clean carpet throughout. Security is pathetic and I think they have an employee who is a thief. I had 2 incidents that should be outlined and relate to the security of the hotel, which is very lacking. The doors are locked with an old fashioned key system. In addition they use door chains and ours was broken. We checked keys at hotel requst at the front door when we left. The day we left for the airport an expensive shirt was inadvertently left in the closet. We called from the airport and were told they had the shirt when in fact they did not. I believe the shirt was kept by housekeeping or staff. 2) We believe a digital camera was stolen from the room. We admit we should have secured our valuables better, but the overall security of this hotel is very lacking. When we mentioned this to hotel staff, we did not get any assistance. It was as if they did not care. It is surprising this facility would get a 3 Star rating for this purpose alone. We will not stay there again and will not use this web service as we think it is not a fair representation.

We are very pleased with our stay at the Veneza Hotel. The property is a very nice old building in one of Lisboa's main avenues. We stayed in the top floor, which I believe was the building's original attic, for which the room shrinks a bit, but it gives it an old fashioned vibe, with the roof windows and all. If you stay in one of the lower levels you won´t have a problem, but you will miss those windows and Lisbon's fresh air delivered right through... The bathroom is amazingly spacious for a european hotel. The location is just perfect, within walking distance to Lisbon touristic area and a block away from the metro station, and still in a very quiet area. We can only complain about the cleaning lady trying to get into our room twice, like they didn't know we were there, but other than that our stay was just perfect. I will definitely stay in this hotel the next time we're in Lisboa.

Good for the price, charming old building which retains its character, in easy walking distance of the best bits of Lisbon (little further from station than expected) Better than the trip-adiser reviews. Tiny open lift unsuitable for little children

Very good hotel, good location, good quality of rooms and they were all clean. My only two gripes. 1) Noise - the first night we stayed in a small room, where there was a lot of noise from the pipes everytime our neighbour used the water. We changed rooms (without any problems from the hotel's side), but now the noise came everytime someone used the elevator. 2) Breakfast is a bit boring Other than that

The rates were quite expensive on the weekends, at 103 Euros, but the mid-week price was nice, at 70 Euros. However, the location was fantastic and it was very quiet, all things considered.

many problems with this hotel : - becareful they rent rooms near the kitchen and all the staff working rooms : full of noises at 7:00 AM ! The "bip" of the microwave in the kitchen wake me up. - the view of this room was just awful : straight on a stair behind the kitchen...no light. A shame to rent this... - we ask for another room for the next night (to tired to search another hotel), they accept whithout any apologies. - the new room was ok but the crackers in the minibar were outdated !! (i was happy do didn't test the food in this hotel after i saw this). - the internet connection is slow and expensive. don't go there...or at least ask a room in the 2nd floor (no kitchen)...

We had a very friendly welcome and were given a choice of 2 rooms. We chose an attic room for quietness. The room had only one bedside table and lamp. We had to use the only chair as a second bedside table. The carpet was stained from a leaking window when it rained. The room, though basically cosy and comfortable, was spoilt by having a carpet with an outdated corporate logo and is due for some redecoration. The Hotel is in a good position on a very attractive avenue and easy reach of the airport bus stop and the Avenida Metro station. The breakfast supplied was good but the breakfast room is quite small and we had a long wait on one day for a table. Overall our stay was enjoyable.

Very well located for city centre on a lovely tree lined avenue, excellent places to eat all around the hotel especially for fish dishes. The main entrance to the hotel is quite impressive with a beautiful staircase and murals on the wall(although you cannot go up the stairs directly)Small but adequate reception to the right and small bar to the left, bedrooms are quite small but comfortable, the dining room is very small so you need to be in there early to ensure you have a table, breakfast cold continental style which again was adequate but would have prefered a hot cooked breakfast being british,All of the staff we found were very friendly down to the chambermaids. This holiday was booked as a Christmas present for my husband(we do a city break every year so it was no surprise really except he never knows where he is going to)this trip he especially enjoyed as he was most impressed with Lisbon and the surrounding area's of Sintra Estoril and Cascais. We will definitely be returning to Lisbon and to this hotel.

I was given a room in the top floor of this hotel and it was about 2/3 of a real room. the ceiling was arched and if you slept on the left side of the bed the ceiling as about 10 inches form your head. That room in that hotel, believe it eas room 30 or 32, can't remember as I hit my head on the ceiling too many times. It should be half the price.

The first night we were put in an attic room which only had about one eighth of a full height ceiling. I'm short but could not stand up straight either in the bedroom or bathroom. The second night they moved us to the first floor and the room was very small and not very clean with a window overlooking a shaft and the next bedroom. The pillows were about one inch thick and when we asked for more we were told there were none available. Would not recommend this hotel except for the situation and the staff were very nice.

The breakfeast room is really tiny and breakfeast regular. The location is perfect and although the hotel is situated on the main avenue it is surprisingly quiet. You should not be claustrophobic, as the lift is small and you cannot use the staircase.

I don't think this hotel will please everyone but I found it perfectly pleasant. There were small problems with the room like a cracked basin, the bathroom smelling a little of old pipework and a cigarette burn mark on the bedspread but that didn't bother me too much. The hotel is an old building which probably needs a major overhall but the staff are all friendly and helpful. An unexpected bonus was some Fado players performing in the stairwell on the first floor at about 6pm in the evening. It was wonderful to see and hear, I think the owner is a big fan.

For our first stay in Lisbon it was perfect. The location is excellent and the room spacious for we three adults. We were not able to book a double room on line and since we chose "twin" we were given twin beds. When asked for a double, we were told that is what we requested and then given a smaller room. The room smelled of mould and the bathroom was small cramped and not very clean. The ceiling in the shower had a big patch of black that looked like mould. The service from the clerks was not helpful. They were patronizing. The location is great. Easy to get around.

We were very pleased with the Veneza and would recommend it to anyone visiting Lisbon. It is very conveniently located and is a cozy, nice, comfortable hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful and made sure that our stay was a good one. We were given a very dark room that looked out onto laundry. The bathroom had a terrible odor of sewage that permeated the whole room. The air conditioner didn't work and we sweated through the first night. In the morning, the bath water alternately ran clear and brown. I requested a new room and we were moved to a room in the front of the hotel - much brighter and a little bigger. Most importantly, there was only a very slight smell in the bathroom. The air conditioner worked a little batter, although not well. If we had been staying any longer than 2 noghts (or if they had refused to give us another room), I would have moved. We heard other hotel guests saying they had no water at all in their rooms. This hotel is moderately priced, but not worth even the relatively low rates they charge. I couldn't wait to leave.

Extremely friendly and helpful service. Fine hotel in good situation. Odd that you have to use the lift, the brilliant stairway closed off, though the chairs on the first floor landing make for a pleasant reading room. Hotel Veneza was our favorite stay during our recent three-week tour of Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The staff was remarkable: Sergio, Alex, and Sofia at the Front Desk, the night manager, the breakfast-room waitpersons -- everyone was helpful above and beyond the call. We learned from them places to see and things to do that few tourists ever will know. Our room was wonderful, big and bright, with an enormous bed (two double beds pushed together), big bathroom (with bath as well as shower) and wonderful balcony on Avenida Independencia, kept sparkling clean by the friendly crew. Tables in the breakfast room are close but the atmosphere is friendly, you make new friends, and the fare is more than adequate to see you through to a scrumptious Lisbon lunch. Our location (shared by two five-star and four four-star hotels) was superb. Ave. Independencia is Lisbon's most happening street. It can be noisy in the morning (like any metropolitan boulevard) but all we had to do, to sleep in, was close the double-paned french doors and pull the drapes for absolute isolation. But you know what? We preferred the openness and connectedness with the boulevard's lovely, leafy promenade and the bustling streets below. At night (especially Sunday evening) the Avenida is absolutely still. The Metro is about 100 meters away; busses and taxis are always available. Rossio (the main shopping/eating district) is easily reachable by foot, as is Barrio Alto, the main clubbing area. And for the alternative lifestyle crowd, Principe Real is just around the corner. All in all, Hotel Veneza was top value for our euros, on objective grounds and because of the friendships we forged there and retain. -- Bob & Cherie

The hotel is OK for a brief stay but if I were to stay for a few days in Lisboa I would choose another hotels. The rooms could need a brush up, the breakfast room is small and old, the breakfast is not aimed at keeping you going for more than an hour or so (only rolls, some cheese and jam) and the only attraction with the hotel, the stairs, are closed... There are other hotels in Lisboa that offer better value for money.

We had two double room originally reserved via internet with doublebed. Unfortunatly we had two rooms each with two seperated beds. The room itself was at the basement with very small lattice-windows. One couldn't even see how the weather was like. Due to that the price was to expensive. In case of graduation of room prices according to locality (e.g. first floor with larger windows as shown at the webside) it should have been indicated! I would choose that hotel again especially because it location but only with a room at the first floor or higher.
