I was lucky to get a promotion for a week (double room for the price of one). Hotel & Staff is perfect, except the noise of the streets, but thats inavoidable in a city like this. Metrostation and Tram just 50 m away, shops, internet, restaurants even closer. If I'll visit Lisbon again, i'll stay in R.d.Sul again.

Unfortunately when we arived at the hotel we were told they could not accomodate us. No explanation was given to us as to whey and we were told tht we would be accomodated in a similar hotel near by. That was not the case. We were a 30 minute walk from the city centre. The alternative hotel was not very clean, and in view of the disruption that we received we thought at least that we would have a complimentary breakfast - this was not the case. In all a very unsatisfactory beginning to our 2 weeks in Portugal.

Art work on the halls is astonishingly good. Hotel is very difficult to locate as entrance is sort of hidden between two businesses. However once in the view of the street with the little narrow gauge trams of line #12 going around the corner is just pure fun if you have a balcony street side room.

When we arrived we were quite disappointed by the poverty of the area: lot of homeless and dirtyness in the squares around..but still lisbona is beautiful expecially if you move to the area of Belen (very west) or the Expo area to the east..

Personnel agréable, parlant peu le français tout de même. Quartier populaire, à deux pas du tram 28 (alfama) et du centre. Des pastelerias et restaurants pas chers du coup tout près. Hotel très propre et silencieux. Grande chambre, décor simple.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel for the price and some of the earlier comments. It's been recently renovated and inside is a lovely building, sympathetically combining some of the older features with comfortable new fittings and attractive murals. We had a lovely big attic suite with a great view, and the sitting room area was very plush. The area lets the hotel down as it's still a red light district and dirty - I wouldn't bring kids here, and I'd have been nervous if I was alone and not in a couple. Despite immediate appearances, you don't have to go into the city centre to eat well, though - the very reasonably priced and friendly Marisqueria dos Anjos serves great food on Rua dos Anjos, just across the road.

OK hotel and nice personnel, clean rooms. The hotel surroundings not good though. Lots of drug dealing and peep shows close by, though we actually never were harassed. Groups of policemen were close by on sunday. It was very close to good communications for Lisbon. Not a dream environment if you have kids though.

Very bad surroundings (very strange people in area around hotel), but cheap and quick restaurants around (look at the one just underneath hotel in same building, typical and cheap but don't expect english :) If you speak portuguese it's a very good point as staff of hotel don't speak english at all !

Be aware that the full amount of your stay is asked to be paid in advance! We stayed in a room under the roof which was reasonably quiet apart from the elevator's noice.
