Very nice hotel. Rooms are small but lovely. Bathrooms should be better but are clean. The place is central, and the square where it is located is very quiet and green. To come back!!

I really enjoyed my stay in Residencial Alegria. Both rooms of our small group were really lovely and the windows were very soundproofed. Only minus was the door of my room, which let most of the noise of the hallway in, which can be a problem if you are a light sleeper. Breakfast was good, the staff very very helpful and friendly, location excellent, and next time I go to Lisbon I would choose Residencial Alegria again.

Although not quite as pretty as in the photos online, Alegria is a fine little hotel within walking distance of downtown. Wouldn't mind coming back.

The hotel looked as though it had been recently refurbished and is only a few minutes walk from the centre of Lisbon. If you have your own laptop/netbook wi-fi is free but you need to be in the public area for good reception. Breakfast is adequate and cheap. Our only complaint would be that some of the bathroom fittings required repair and/or replacement, e.g. only a hand held shower, towel holder loose on wall. Other than that we would recommended this pension.

Tiny room with small bed, a kettle and a few cups to allow you to make a cup of tea or coffee would have been a simple upgrade. Shower curtain hanging off the wall. meant water everywhere in bathroom. Breakfast was simple but good, lacking variety and boring after day 2.

The location is good, not too far from the center. Staff was generally competent and friendly. Rooms are not large, but clean. Maintenance could be better, a handy man could do good to the upkeep.

I have nothing negative to say about this wonderful little residence. It was a great value for the money. Our room was in the back of the hotel, and the big wide windows in both the bedroom and bath opened to a view of the Portuguese neighborhood, kids playing soccer, laundry drying out windows. We felt like we were in a typical neighborhood , but were only one block off of Avenida Da Liberdade, and few blocks from Rossio. It was a bit noisy late at night during trash pickup , and the cafe down the street was open late and was a bit loud till early morning hours. I would definitely stay at this hotel if I come back to Lisbon. Yes the breakfast was the same everyday, but it was typical continental breakfast, and was good. Two neighborhood restaurants we enjoyed : O FUMEIRA RESTAURANT - go out the front door of the hotel, and UP the street , make a left . then it was on I think the second or 3rd street to the left, right side of the street maybe halfway down , the number was 25, but I don't have the street name. Very friendly people, wonderful typical Portuguese food, very elegant with white tablecloths and huge wine selection. The other was little cafe called TASCA DO MARINHEIRO, owned by a very friendly Indian gentleman, cheap good Portuguese food , mainly frequented by locals. Again, go up the hill out of the hotel, make a left , then right on the first street and it's a few houses up on the right side of the street.

Very nice welcoming, very good services from employees, nice hotel with charm, very quiet inside the hotel but a lot of noise during the night (people, cars) and we had to close windows in order to sleep, Lisbon has an very active life at night.

Appeals to people from all over Europe visiting Lisbon for sightseeing. The location is excellent and it represents excellent value for money. It is notable that the hotel does not compromise on cleanliness due to its price. It is very clean.I would definitely stay there again.

Nicely located - across small park and 2 blocks from Ave. Libredade which is a main road. Our room had a lovely balcony overlooking the park. When we went to pay, their card reader would not accept any of our credit cards which were all in order. We had to pay cash, so be prepared.

We loved the Residencia Alegria and will recommend it to our family and friends should they ever consider Lisbon as a vacation destination. We're very glad we did. First, the location is perfect, in easy walking distance of the TI at the Praca Restauradores; all public transportation (Aerobus, Carris bus, Metro, and Elevador Gloria): lovely streetside inexpensive restaurants along the Avenida Liberdade and nearby; the excitement in the Rossio, the National Theatre, etc., etc. Plus, a very safe Praca, with the Polizia just next door. As we walked around the city, we felt so lucky that we had landed at the Alegria and not in one of the other hotels we saw in less desirable areas. The staff at the Alegria was wonderful --perfectly fluent in every language, from English and German to French, Italian, Spanish--and, of course, Portuguese. And, always cheerful and helpful. The included breakfast in their lovely dining room is simple but good: the best Portuguese rolls we had the whole trip, sliced meat and cheese, plus juice, coffee/ tea, and cornflakes. Perhaps some fresh fruit would be a nice addition, but enjoy shopping for your own fruit at the many shops on the Rua San Jose on the other side of the Avenida Liberdade.
