Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The valet parking guy was fantastic.....the room was dirty, the bath water was a curious shade of yello. No water pressure in the bathroom and it took an hour to run the yellow bath. The location is difficult to find and in the middle of a business district. Small coffee/bakery shop directly across the street. Hotel needs updating and the fabrics, sheets, curtains need completely replacing.

Was really impressed with the hotel and expecially the gentleman that checked us in. The parking lot was full but he went out of his way to find us a place to park and made sure the car was ready for us the next morning all at no charge. Unfortunately I didn't get his name but he deserves a great round of applause.

This hotel is perfectly located downtown Lisbon. It is in kind of ongoing repairs, with one elevator in operation. At the same time, in my view, the price we have paid for the stay in the hotel fully corresponds to the quality of services provided to us by the hotel.

Difficult to identify precise location on city map because of confusion of roads around Marques de Pombal and Parque Eduoardo VII; also no warning about fairly steep climb to the hotel from the metro station - but I would not let this discourage normal travellers.

Normally the price of the VIP Diplomatico is 110€ for a double bed room and it seriously isn't worth it. The hotel is quite nice but with a "portugish" style. We booked it for 55€ wich is a very good deal due to the the hotel itself and its location.

Stayed in 8th floor, so street noise couldn't be a problem. Balcony had double window, so I guess noise wouldn't be a problem even in lower floors. Rooms are equipped with individual Air Conditioner, which I prefer to common installation A/C: Minimum noise and perfect performance because Temp sensor is in the remote and you can adjust wind blades toward any direction you want. The Parking is extremely small (about 8 places), but there is a really good priced private parking in front of the hotel (about 50m down the street; 11€ max per day).

we'd been to Lisboa for a conference at the university. So the hotel was perfectly situated: 5 min to the central Metro Station and close to the urban center. However there was only little traffic noise. The staff was competent, obliging but not overwhelming - just the way I like it. We had single rooms which were not quite large but totally sufficent. Interior was not brand new but in best order and very clean. To my mind it's an ideal hotel for people looking for an agreeable location for their excursions to lisboa.

The hotel has an excellent location near a subway station, rooms are clean, nice and spacious and I loved the bath tub. We felt we got really good quality in a moderate price. I thought the breakfast was worth the 8,50 price as well. In the reception there was plenty of staff and they were ready to help when asked, but the only minor problem was that they didn't speak English that much. Extra thanks for their considaration though; I accidentally booked us a room just for two, but the receptionist remembered us since we stayed there earlier as well and booked us a room with an extra bed for our child.

Very good if we take into account the relationship between price and quality. Now, one question for those who have stayed in that hotel: did you find out the way to have a shower or did you have to ask the staff about it? They're sick to be asked but they could write a warning in the bathroom.

All-in-all a good choice. This hotel is a little out of date in terms of style and facilities. But it is clean, well-located,and quiet. The beds are very comfortable, and the water is nice and hot (though it tends to be a little rust colored at first). Breakfast is good. Although I felt safe in the hotel, the lack of adequate locks is a bit worrying in terms of leaving one's valuables, and the hotel charges extra for in-room safes. There is no wi-fi or free internet access.

The VIP Diplomatico turned out to be far more luxurious than I had expected - big, modern, comfortable rooms with a large bath, excellent breakfast, bar quiet and discrete, in the old English style, very clean, very spacious even in the public areas (which I like - it gives a sense of generosity), and very efficient, extremely helpful staff (organising a Sintra tour for me, posting letters, doing my ironing...). If you haven't got your laptop with you, there's a computer in the lobby where you can read your email. No problem for people in wheelchairs either - there are large lifts, and in the one place where there are a couple of steps there's a gentle ramp. I made the booking over the internet, and I think I got a bargain. For a place like this I'd have expected to pay far, far more.

This is a very good, clean and friendly hotel with excellent price/quality ratio. It is very conveniently located in the immediate vicinity of the metro and bus stations. Employees are highly competent and will help guests in almost everything. It will probably not satisfy those looking for brand new pristine hotels and rooms, but this hotel has its years as well as dignity. Breakfast is not included in the price but hotel is surrounded by a number of typical portuguese snack bars and restaurants that offer cheap and delicious cuisine.

The room was spacious, clean and had a view over some trees, the castle which was illuminated at night and a small stretch of the river. The hotel is a little faded and would only be 3 stars now not 4. The only negative was the reception staff. All except one guy, were cold, unfriendly and very quickly made us feel like we were a major imposition rather than paying guests. We had to return the key to them each time we left the hotel otherwise we would have avoided them at all costs. We stayed for 6 nights and it was the same every day. It was very surprising because any cleaning ladies we met in the corridor smiled, nodded and said hello!

I think the hotel has seen its glorious days a few decades ago and even though they rate it with 4 stars it is more likely to be just 3 stars nowadays. Easy and quick access from the Marquês de Pombal square is a plus. Staff was quite polite but not too talkative and did not smile too much either, which is quite typical in Portugal even today sad to say.. I had a nice and very interesting conversation about the portuguese people and the language aspects with the bartender in the lobby bar one evening.

While the staff spoke fair English, they seemed irratated most of the time when dealing with us. Thought it was a language register problem, but people were quite friendly in other areas. The hotel is a fair walk or a bus ride from the historic centre, so if you plan to stay for an evening downtown, I would recommend a more central location. On the map it looked a lot closer. It is off the main road, so print a detailed map, we had a bit of a problem finding it, but I suppose at least it is a quiet location. The hotel is very dated and the staff tries to be helpful, but seem to be tired of their job. The bed was very hard, but that is the trend in Portugal. The dated plugs fried my computer charger and I was left without a computer for the rest of the vacation, so be careful. There is a computer with internet access in the lobby, but it is not free. The hotel was cheap, so a good deal, but I would have stayed in the historic district, if given the chance again. THERE IS NEVER FREE PARKING AT THIS HOTEL, it is always full, we checked repeatedly. There are no good restaurants near by. The one the staff sent us to was almost the most expensive meal we had in Portugal and the food was just ok.

Diplomatico is well positioned relative to Metro buses or even walking to city centre Proximity to park and other sights made it a good base for our group of four couples.

Need some refreshment but excellent price for a 4 stars hotel. Not really in the center but close from Metro. Not many restaurants in the surroundings,

Excellent location for Metro or walk to centre of city or Bairo Alto. Airport bus within 8 minutes walk from Hotel (€3 each way). Be prepared for hills when walking - but that's the only way to see a city! Make sure you take a complete trip on the 28E tram. Absolutely brillient! Lisbon your a lovely city!

We were there over Xmas and it was a great time. Although the Hotel did not organise nothing on Xmas-night they offered us other restaurants were we could have Xmas diner. That is very dificult as most restaurants are closed or fully booked on xmas-night. We also had a nice xmas present from the Hotel, in the room, nice botle of Port and a typical portugues xmas cake. Very friendly and on a good location.

The hotel location was excellent for seeing Lisbon. Certainly central enough to access public transportaion but not right on a main street so it was still quiet. The staff are not very friendly or helpful for english speaking guests, nor do they try to provide an exceptional experience. However, the rooms were very clean and reasonably priced, no reason not to stay there if I returned.

Relationship between price/quality very low: that means low price over high quality. While the relationship between quality/price is very high! My room was excelent except its carpet, very old and "fané" The position in the city is quite right: close to Metro and Avenida Libertade. Few minutes from the room to the Rossio or the Brasileira. In a word: I surely come back to Diplomatico the next time I am in Lisboa and I'll suggest it to all my friends.
