Excellent "old-school" hotel in the best meaning! Nice furniture, good location, very best price/quality ratio. Beautiful view from our room at the 8th floor to the whole city. Highly recommended!

Excellent quality of services and facilities offered and great competence of employees who are always willing to help. Their speaking several languages is definitely a plus.

This is a very good, clean and friendly hotel with excellent price/quality ratio. It is very conveniently located in the immediate vicinity of the metro and bus stations. Employees are highly competent and will help guests in almost everything. It will probably not satisfy those looking for brand new pristine hotels and rooms, but this hotel has its years as well as dignity. Breakfast is not included in the price but hotel is surrounded by a number of typical portuguese snack bars and restaurants that offer cheap and delicious cuisine.

The room was spacious, clean and had a view over some trees, the castle which was illuminated at night and a small stretch of the river. The hotel is a little faded and would only be 3 stars now not 4. The only negative was the reception staff. All except one guy, were cold, unfriendly and very quickly made us feel like we were a major imposition rather than paying guests. We had to return the key to them each time we left the hotel otherwise we would have avoided them at all costs. We stayed for 6 nights and it was the same every day. It was very surprising because any cleaning ladies we met in the corridor smiled, nodded and said hello!

I think the hotel has seen its glorious days a few decades ago and even though they rate it with 4 stars it is more likely to be just 3 stars nowadays. Easy and quick access from the Marquês de Pombal square is a plus. Staff was quite polite but not too talkative and did not smile too much either, which is quite typical in Portugal even today sad to say.. I had a nice and very interesting conversation about the portuguese people and the language aspects with the bartender in the lobby bar one evening.

The hotel was as described, it is rather old but maintains features of a 4 star hotel. It is very near the metro station and has a number of cozy cafes very near. Also very near is the bus stop for the sightseeing buses. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall we did not encounter any problems, everything was as anticipated

While the staff spoke fair English, they seemed irratated most of the time when dealing with us. Thought it was a language register problem, but people were quite friendly in other areas. Hotel is quite old, would have appreciated an 'authentic' feel, but many things needed updating for a four star hotel.

We were at this Hotel for 3 weeks. It was very clean and the room was quite large. Some of the staff were not too welcoming. The location is good, as it's a few blocks away from the higher priced & noisy tourist area. We found the city was the same as the Hotel 'nice, clean and tidy but not too welcoming'.

The hotel is a fair walk or a bus ride from the historic centre, so if you plan to stay for an evening downtown, I would recommend a more central location. On the map it looked a lot closer. It is off the main road, so print a detailed map, we had a bit of a problem finding it, but I suppose at least it is a quiet location. The hotel is very dated and the staff tries to be helpful, but seem to be tired of their job. The bed was very hard, but that is the trend in Portugal. The dated plugs fried my computer charger and I was left without a computer for the rest of the vacation, so be careful. There is a computer with internet access in the lobby, but it is not free. The hotel was cheap, so a good deal, but I would have stayed in the historic district, if given the chance again. THERE IS NEVER FREE PARKING AT THIS HOTEL, it is always full, we checked repeatedly. There are no good restaurants near by. The one the staff sent us to was almost the most expensive meal we had in Portugal and the food was just ok.

Good location however not as close as we first thought. it is necessary to get a bus to the city centre howevere there is a good and frequent bus service! We had a problem on our final day and i have to say i was not impressed at all with the way the hotel staff treated us, as the problem was not of our own cause!!! Bad atmosphere in the hotel, only good part was the breakfast, hotel was very old fashioned! glorified bed and breakfast!!! Suited to a mature couple, definately not for a family with young children!!

Location is a bit far from the restaurants/bars in Barrio Alto but very close to bus station and airport(E10 to airport). Excellent restaurant nearby called Restaurant 33. Other guests tend to be young travelers (post-college) which is nice for those looking to meet others.

Excellent value for money; service was great, room was spacious and hotel location allright. Also the buffet breakfast was good; not "big" but there was everything and it was fresh and tasty. Only minus was a sound of heavy coughing from the room next to us which disturbed a bit our sleep. Next time we come to Lisbon we'll stay here again.

Excellent location for Metro or walk to centre of city or Bairo Alto. Airport bus within 8 minutes walk from Hotel (€3 each way). Be prepared for hills when walking - but that's the only way to see a city! Make sure you take a complete trip on the 28E tram. Absolutely brillient! Lisbon your a lovely city!

We were there over Xmas and it was a great time. Although the Hotel did not organise nothing on Xmas-night they offered us other restaurants were we could have Xmas diner. That is very dificult as most restaurants are closed or fully booked on xmas-night. We also had a nice xmas present from the Hotel, in the room, nice botle of Port and a typical portugues xmas cake. Very friendly and on a good location.

Hotel kann bedenkenlos weiter empfohlen werden. Einziger Nachteil: Zimmer sind etwas hellhörig.

The hotel location was excellent for seeing Lisbon. Certainly central enough to access public transportaion but not right on a main street so it was still quiet. The staff are not very friendly or helpful for english speaking guests, nor do they try to provide an exceptional experience. However, the rooms were very clean and reasonably priced, no reason not to stay there if I returned.

Relationship between price/quality very low: that means low price over high quality. While the relationship between quality/price is very high! My room was excelent except its carpet, very old and "fané" The position in the city is quite right: close to Metro and Avenida Libertade. Few minutes from the room to the Rossio or the Brasileira. In a word: I surely come back to Diplomatico the next time I am in Lisboa and I'll suggest it to all my friends.

On arriving the foyer looks impressive but when shown room it was a bit of a dissapointment, it looked tired, beginning to need a revamp, espesially the bathroom, very quiet though, breakfast good, would have used the restaurant but it was closed, so can't comment, walked down road to another hotel and had a superb meal there, not telling you which one you will have to find out yourself! Wanted double bed, got a twin, but no biggie. 15 minute walk from downtown center or 250 meters from nearest metro (underground). Nice area, with lots of other hotels, near a park and a few big shopping centers nearby. We did not eat at the hotel, so I have no idea of the quality of breakfast. (There was a McDonalds a few hundred meters from the hotel though :) No wireless connection as far as I could tell. Slightly worn down hotel, not the "finest" or "best" 4 star hotel I've seen, but if you plan on exploring and enjoing Lisboa instead of staying all day in your hotel, I would recommend it due to it's low price. If you are sensitive to sound, you should probably avoid the 9th (top) floor due to the elevator engine and general cable noise.
