We stayed in Lisbon 4 days. the hotels location was perfect for site seeing. We were given a room at the back of the hotel it was a lot smaller than what it look on the pictures. When I came out of the shower on the first day the floor was like a paddling pool I had to use all the towels to mop it up. I complained at reception but nothing was done! There is a small bar but no one used it maybe because there was no beer! I think the hotel is in need of a big refit. I think it is a bit over priced for what you get.

Discrepancy between price(high for a 3 stars hotel) and quality. Breakfast buffet included is very basic (with very low quality: first price level). Smell of dust in the corridors and in the bedroom dirty curtains which are grey more than white. Poor light in the bathroom. Same price for two persons or one(in this case there is only 1 breakfast!). The location is good in center city .

We loved the Metropole, we definitely had 'a room with a view' and what a view! The staff was exceptionally helpful and we had a wonderful stay. This was our third time in Lisbon but our first time at the Metropole but we will definitely come back.

The location of the hotel is very strategic, it is in city centre so it is very accessible hence, you can go around easily for sightseeing. The train station is practically its neighbor, this is excellent especially if you are going outside of Lisbon like Cascais and Sintra. However, the sound insulation is not so good hence, it can be noisy especially in the morning. I would recommend this for a short stay in Lisbon and you are always in the go to see other places in and out of the city.

Great location and staff. The rooms were clean but unfortunately there was some very loud construction going on next door. Other than that I would stay at the Metropole again.

The location was wonderful, it is on the major plaza. Our room had a small balcony which overlooked the plaza, with a view of the fountains, and the castle. But future travelers should be aware that a popular restaurant/gathering spot is underneath the hotel, with tables on the street. We actually enjoyed hearing the street musicians and the soccer fans (who were on the sidewalk watching the game on the restaurant TV) singing ?team songs. But if you think noise would bother you, ask for a room in the back, or bring earplugs. The public areas of the hotel were fine, breakfast was good. Room was large, bathroom huge. But the hotel could use some cosmetic improvement, ie new carpeting in the hallways, new bedspreads, new upholstery on chairs.

Location was exactly as indicated on website. We had easy access to buses, taxis, and trams. There were many restraurants within walking distance. Hotel staff could not have been more helpful with suggestions for sightseeing and directions. AND as a bonus, breakfast was better than expected.

I stayed here for 2 Days I would not reccommend it . We Had a few problems .The rooms were hot and stuffy. The windows were locked shut . The air conditioning made an unbelieveable racket, so much that I could not sleep with it on . I had to turn it off, only to be kept awake with the hum of machinery from some other part of the hotel. Also my wife noticed that her personals had been rifled through. Not to sound like a complaining pain but the the maids were so unprofessional . In the morning they where laughing and talking so loudly while they did there work that I had to complain. And although we had a do not disturb sign hanging on the door knob, they tried several times to enter our room . We had to put on the chain to stop them from coming in. After several attemps to enter while my wife told that the room was still occupied, reception had the cheek to call our room to see if the maid could get in. All before 9:30 a:m.

When I checked in I received a room (no 22) which was facing the Rossio - it was really noisy and I asked if it would be possible to change. I received then a room at the back (no 55) which was quiter but had a terrible smell (probably a smoker room).

The value for money would have been excellent but for the £ crashing vs. the € between booking and staying. The elegant hotel is perfectly positioned for a visit to Lisbon with easy walking access to major sites and public transpot. The welcome was professional but the room was not ready on time, this was not a problem as there was time for a coffee in the excellent cafe next door. The room was large and well appointed with fully working shower and bath (rarer than one might expect in southern Europe). I had to fix a glitch with the TV myself (it was over the Xmas holiday). The reception staff were universally friendly and helpful speaking excellent English. The euro-breakfast was generous and tasty served by friendly, if shy, staff.

This hotel is in a simply fabulous square. With great views out the front balcony, it simply can't be beat. We stayed for two nights over New Years and couldn't ask for a better located hotel. Although I thought it odd, that most taxi drivers don't know where the hotel is. You must make sure they don't mistake Metropole for Metropolitan, which is the most common mistake we found and will take you out by the airport if you don't catch it, in time. Other than location, the rooms are a bit dated with older fixturing. Beyond that, they did have a plate of fruit in our room daily and also had a great common room with a bar and snacks as well as a bottle of port, to which you could help yourself. The cafe directly below is a great place for a coffee and the start to your day.

This is a hotel we would like to stay or should I say like to come back to.It was a romantic room with a marvelous view, french doors to a balcony. The bathroom was nice with lot of space. We spendt lots of time in the afternoons on the room, looking at the life on the streets and surrondings, and with something good in our glasses we made the hotel-room the best bar in town!!The service from the stab was exelent. They was kindly and helpful.Breakfast was nice and good!We will reconmand this hotel for our friends when they visit Lisbon.Thank you Metropole for a nice stay!!!

A very nice, atmospheric hotel. The lobby and reception has a pre-or just post-war feel while still being up to date. Location is perfect and the view from rooms facing onto Rossio is superb. Despite the newly fitted (double-glazed?) windows it is still very noisy, especially when the street cleaners turn up, but this didn't seem to bother us. If you're sensitive ask for a room at the rear. One unusual problem comes from the fact that they maintain the old furniture. This gives character but - the beds are very short. I'm about 5'8" and my partner is about 5'6" and we just fit. If you're taller I recommend that you enquire first. Decent sized although fairly basic rooms, good bathroom and good breakfasts. If you want luxury look elsewhere, if you want well run, well maintained and a curious 30s/50s stylishness then it's great. We'll stay there again.

We were very pleased with the hotel. We didn't realize that the Rossio square was that much of the center (we really just guessed at the location, but made a good choice!)

This hotel was wonderful. It was centrally located and we walked everywhere. The staff was helpful and really great. The daily breakfast was good and everything was hot and fresh. The room was clean though it was a bit small, but just enough for what we needed. I would go back again!

The best possible location in Lisbon! The entrance is small (but who cares...) and the rooms are not very spacious, but overall pleasant, nicely démodée atmosphere. Very kind and friendly staff. Avoid rooms on the 5th (and possibly 4th) floor because of very noisy sala de machinas (I was not told about it and could not change my room immediately).

I booked the Hotel Metropole for a short break with my two teenage children and sister and found it to be an excellent choice. The central location meant we were within walking distance from most of the central districts and access to trams was very easy for destinations slightly further afield. There was an excellent range of restaurants within a very short walk. Rooms were well equipped and clean, my only criticism would be that the beds were on the hard side and the pillows not especially comfortable. Overall I would have no hesitation in returning to the hotel and would happily recommend it to others.

The best location in lisbon period! the hotel is very nice and the staff were excetional and accomadating. we stayed 5 nites and had a fantastic view overlooking the square, sure it's a little noisy but man, what a view, you can see it all. I would definately stay there again as the location is unbeatable, right in the heart of lisbon where all the cool sights are.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the location is great being centrally located with a great view of the square from the lounge and breakfasting area. Minutes from the lift Elevador Sta Justa, which is a must for any visitor to Lisbon with its fantastic view of the city from the top, and from trams which take you all over it couldn't have been better placed for my trip. Just a shame I didn't have more time to enjoy more on my short work trip.

This really was a nice hotel. We had a great room (huge) looking out on the square at a good price. You really can't beat the location. The staff was very nice and friendly. We appreciated the free wireless -- hotels too often try to rip off guests by charging for internet access that really doesn't cost them anything. We would definitely stay there again.

Its a perfect location + we love Deco and its a 5 mins walking from the sea, so lovely sea breeze too. Right on from all buses, trams and Metro too. Plus 3 mins walk to all restrauants. Hard to fault it really, if you like time aged quality over the 'soi-dissant' 5* attributes.(its a teensey bit frayed at the edges),BUT here you feel part of the city, yet genteely removed... Will recommend to all our friends and will put it in my diary as 'the only' place to stay in Lisbon.

This is a very nice Hotel in the middle of Lisboa. The Location can't be better, you get from there easily to the airport, and inside Lisboa it's very near to every interesting place. The Hotel is very atmospheric, not to big and if your lucky, you can get a room with a balcony visavis the Rossio, that's very romantic. The breakfast will be served in a nice lounge (see the pictures)and is OK. We really enjoyed our stay.

This is a great location - right in the heart of the town. We had asked for a room with a view and were given one overlooking the square but it had twin beds so - without any fuss they agreed to move us to a double room at the rear of the hotel which overlooks a pedestrianised street and proved to be very quiet (which almost certainly would not have been the case overlooking the very busy square). The room itself was fine with a very decent sized bathroom. I've read somewhere that one person thought the rooms smelt of cabbage. There's a vegetarian restaurant in the street at the back - we didn't visit it to eat but the smell of the food cooking every morning was actually delicious! One gripe - the bed had a revolting rubberised mattress protector which was vile to sleep on. We resorted to taking ours off at night and replacing it in the morning.........

Centralissimo, economico, colazione abbondante. Unico neo: gli arredamenti e i bagni vecchi più che antichi. Per una posizione così centrale impossibile trovare di meglio a questi prezzi. Consigliabile.

A very nice hotel with a perfect location for exploring Lisboa. THe rooms are very nice and the staff very helpful and service minded. We had a problem with a smell in our room and had no problems changing rooms even though it was late at night. THe breakfast was excellent compared to other such meals in Portugal. They served a full continental breakfast. For a hotel in this price range I highly recommend the Metropole.

From the picture you show of the hotel and the price of the room (111 euros per night) one might expect a nice hotel; surprise when you enter! no hall, only stairs which take you to an elevator that brings you to the real hall of the hotel, which is quite disappointing. An hotel like this doesn't fit your expectations. In addition, the bed was very noicy, and the bathroom was third world. Only the position of the hotel is good.
