Hotel Balladins Lille - Lille

The hotel has a good location right opposite the main train station. Apart from that it is very small, just a doorway between two restaurants to the main street, no parking and even dropping off luggage etc is a major task as you have to park across a cycle lane etc. The rooms themselves were very small, according to the fire plan, we had one of the larger rooms. We could not open our shower door more than half way before it hit the sink. Elevator too small for a pushchair so needed to fold just to get in, a real pain. Worst point of all, no air conditioning in rooms, was told to keep window open which is a little inconvenient as there are two busy bars below and the noise was really bad. The Hotel staff were fine however and quite helpful. Would not recommend for anyone with children but for a one night stopover as a single traveler, it should be fine.

Great value hotel with excellent clean, modern rooms. Room service leaves the bathroom spotless. Reception people very helpful and friendly. Location is great if arriving by train - directly across the street from Gare de Lille Flandres and a few minutes walk from Gare de Lille Europe. The huge Euralille shopping centre is even closer than Lille Europe, and there are heaps of eateries right outside. Also convenient for the metro. My only complaint is that the walls aren't soundproof enough, as one nights I could hear people chatting and kids running around in the hallway as if they were right next to me. Mind you, the real problem there is the people being too noisy! Also, in one room the shower didn't have a door/curtain, meaning water went everywhere. One of my double rooms was smaller than the other, but still fine for one person. With two large suitcases it might be a bit squishy though. Overall I loved my stay here, would definitely come back and highly recommend it!

Room was clean, modern with good facilities but small, and unfortunately no air conditioning, so we had to leave the window doors open, and suffered the noise of the air conditioning and kitchen sounds from next door all night even though we were on a higher level - back of the hotel. Will stay there again as very close to everything but will ask for a front room next time upper levels.

We requested a double then asked to change to a twin which was dealt with swiftly and efficiently and we were grateful for - even for two of the three nights we booked. The nicest rooms were at the top of the hotel, front-facing. The bathrooms were very nice. We were disappointed by two major things. The staff were efficient but found it difficult to volunteer a smile or say hello in a friendly manner and the double we stayed in on the third night was very small and faced onto the central courtyard which proved to be noisy when a load of teenagers descended upon us and proceeded to shout at each other, spit and throw sweets at each other across the courtyard. Thankfully this was our final night.

Best value for money! Exceeded our expectations of a 2 star hotel.
