This hotel is situated in part of what was once a grand villa. The entry is on a side street via couple of flights of stairs (it doesn't look like a hotel entrance). The rooms reflect this in size and decoration. The hotel is situated in town with convenient access to restaurants, shops and walking distance from the beach. The staff were friendly although restaurant service was very average. Overall, a great hotel to stay in especially if you like period furnishings and grand rooms.

This is our second stay at SM. We stayed there last year and they remembered us by face this year. Breakfast was delightful out in the garden under covered gazebos. Location is right in the middle of town with easy acces to waterfront, train station and other sites

The room was exquisite. I felt like I was in a museum of 18th and 19th century interiors. It was an unexpected delight in a relaxed beach town.

The people were very friendly and attentive and the location was excellent-close to the beach and in the middle of town. The food was superb. The price seemed a little high, but it was the high season.

Charming hotel, spacious rooms, good welcome. Breakfast was rather frugal !! Dinner in the garden was quite an experience watching the 'dumb' waiter in operation.

Strength: competence of employees weakness: breakfast-/diningroom to close to office Levanto is a charming italian village with a nice park, good icecream and a beautiful site at the beach.

Owners & staff very friendly & food was very good. It was not difficult to imagine that the room was in a palace. Cinque Terre easily accessible by train or boat. Definitely worth another visit.

BY FAR OUR WORST HOTEL IN ITALY. ALTHOUGH THE ROOM WAS NICELY DONE AND CLEAN...IT IS DOWNHILL FROM THERE. THE ROOM WAS FILLED WITH STREET NOISE OF EVERY KIND AND FUMES FROM TRUCKS. THE MALE STAFF MEMBER WAS VERY RUDE, THE FOOD TERRIBLE, AND THE PUBLIC ROOMS, YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING...NOT EVEN A PLACE FOR A DRINK OR A CUP OF COFFEE. THE PARKING COST WAS ADDITIONAL..OK BUT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW.

LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE I'm not one to complain, but O-M-G! Maybe I'm a snob, but our first room was worse then my Villanova freshman year dorm. I think someone mentioned Gold Spec walls in another review?! They forgot to mention the bright florescent bulbs, the broken lightbulb in the shower and the tacky 70's decor. w/ wife nearly in tears- asked and received (at an additional 100Euro) a room in the main house. Cool ceiling, but still kinda sketchy. Explained that we were dissatisfied w/ the stay. After the first night, we decided to find another place (despite 2 night reservation) that we were still charge for (at the expensive rate). Plus some old lady hung around as I checked out, anticipating my objection over the second nights charge. I was on vacation and said "to hell w/ it... " DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE! IF NEED BE, I'D RATHER CAMP OUT IN THE TOWN PARK!

This hotel didn't meet our expectations, especially since we had just left an outstanding hotel in siena which was much better value. We hadn't actally realised that we'd booked a room in the "dependance" - situated on the first floor of a (nice enough) residential building in a different street - no feeling of it being in a hotel at all. We tried to change rooms to the main hotel building, but there were none available, so were stuck in the dependance, initially in a small and frankly depressing room at the back. We got moved to a slightly bigger room which was more like a student bed-sit and had the most bizarre decor I think I've ever seen, with wall covering that I can only describe as gold-flecked rough-cast (jaggy!). We were also half-board which we hadn't realised until we got there and ate in the hotel twice, which was alright - but better out. I'm sure the rooms in the main part of the hotel are better, but I doubt we'd stay again.

I loved this hotel, it was very cozy and in a great location. It's not actually in Cinque Terre, it's a couple towns away but i definitely recommend staying here - there is a lot more to do and you're only a 5 minute train ride away from the Cinque Terre. We actually rented scooters and rode through the mountains to get there. The staff is wonderful and your breakfast and dinner is included in the price. The rooms are beautiful and i loved lecanto.

We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel and Levanto which is a great little town. The room was compact, comfortable and reasonably equipped (just don't compare this to a business hotel!). Food was good, although the evening meals were a little limited in choice some days (if given a choice, we would probably go bed and breakfast next time just for the variety). The staff were brilliant with our little boy (aged 3) for the whole stay and there was no charge as he slept in our large double bed. Would we stay there again ? - you bet, Levanto and Stella Maris are in our 'happy places' list !

We enjoyed our stay at Stella Maris. The room with painted ceiling and magnificent antique furniture was wonderful. The bathroom in our room was quite modern, though a bit tight for anyone bigger than average. We very much enjoyed the breakfasts, but would have preferred having the option to dine elsewhere.

The Stella Maris was a delightful surprise! The employees were welcoming, the meals absolutely terrific (the best we had during our 12 days in Italy!), overall an excellent accomodation and great value! Davide was a gem and took great pains to make our stay even more special! My husband and I would highly recommend this hotel. (In Florence and Venice, we stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels, and the Stella Maris had more charm and hospitality, and fantastic food!)
