Italy was magic- watching the sun set at the beach bar / the lovely beach in Levanto and all the friendly people. All the food was good to excellent. The coastal walks were tough in places but all varied.

We loved this hotel so much we asked to stay another evening and they were so accomodating. Breakfast was amazing and the space was large comparedto other european hotels. I am surprised this was rated with a lower star rating, really should be classified as a four star.

I'll try to be fair in this review. We stayed in 3 hotels in Italy, all similar price range, all found through venere. Nazionale was the smallest and least liked room of the 3. It was clean. However, it was so COLD and they refused to turn the heat on. The biggest problem was the noise in the hallways in the mornings. You can hear everything, from slamming doors, to housekeeping, to children. Very annoying. On a good note, the breakfast was probably the best of the 3. the location was good, we used it as a foundation to see Cinque Terre. About a 10 minute walk from the train station.

Very nice and clean hotel with friendly and helpfull staff at the reception. We had a quite room with air condition and everything is within walking distance. It it easy enough to find when arriving at the train station. Italian breakfast (croissant, italian bread roll) with butter and jam, orange juice and great milk coffee to set you up for the day. Would stay there again!

Our three night stay at Hotel Nationale in Levanto was the highlight of our trip! We enjoyed staying in Levanto and hiking from there to the Cinque Terre villages. Returning by train from the villages was easy to do. It was a short walk from the train station back to the hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The continental breakfast was the best we had and the coffee made to order was very nice, too. Our room was comfortable and very clean! We will share our wonderful experience with our friends and family and we look forward to returning some time soon!

The room was small, but very nice and clean. We had a very small balcony which made the room seem larger. There is a "lift" which was very nice. The breakfast was great - definitely something for everyone. The owner checked us in and she was very helpful...more so than her employees, who were nice, but not as attentive. I would strongly recommend this hotel and would go back again!

The owner of this hotel is charming, helpful and speaks beautiful English. The terrace on the roof is a wonderful place to sit in the afternoon. Their breakfast is the best we had in the 2 weeks we were in Italy. Eggs, meats, cheeses, pastries, fresh fruit! The hotel was about 10 minutes walking distance from the train to go to the Cinque Terre and just down the street from the beautiful blue Ligurian Sea.

For various reasons we had interrupted sleep to varying degrees a total of 5 out of the 7 nights. All due to exterior causes beyond the control of the hotel, including noisy late night revellers at 3.00 am and a lorry that parked opposite the Hotel making pallet truck deliveries again at approx 3.00 am,lasting approx 2.5 hrs each time, this we heard at least 5 nights, perhaps this was avoidable. On the saturday night that we arrived the bar opposite had live music which stopped at 1230 am,as we were told it would and was not a problem for a Saturday night. we wanted a central location which was excellent and expect and accept normal city noises but the combined effect of the above was disappointing given the otherwise very high standards of the Hotel

Good location convenient for beach, restaurants and station. Comfortable and not pretentious. Relaxing. Friendly, helpful staff. Good buffet style breakfast and nice garden/patio area to eat in. Would certainly stay there again. Levanto is good base for Cinque-Terre and with easy link to autostrada for day trips.

The Nazionale is a really nice hotel with a beautiful garden for breakfast or coffe. Rooms are very well cleaned and staff is very helpful and friendly. The only negative thing to say is that the rooms are quite noisy. No chance, if you want to sleep before midnight. Breakfast is very good as well.

The Nazionale was a very professionaly and courteously run hotel with rates well in line with others. It had the best breakfast of our six Italian hotels. Being a family run place, they seemed to have a better grasp on providing 'hospitality' as opposed to just 'accomodation'. An excellent base for a Cinque Terra visit.

We took a chance on Levanto after deciding there were too few options for places to stay in the Cinque Terre villages and upon arriving at the Nazionale we knew immediately we'd made the right choice. The hotel is well-situated and the town itself is just the right size for exploring by evening after a day of hiking between the villages. The Nazionale is very well run, with staff who were more welcoming and genuine than those at any other hotel in which we stayed. The breakfast buffet was wonderful - far exceeded our expectations. Homemade pastries plus lots of choices for healthy eating. This was also one of the few places we stayed with access to free WiFi.

Delightful family run hotel with helpful staff. Madam took a real pleasure in relating, and giving information, advice and assistance. Levanto is an excellent place as a centre for the whole area includng the Cinque terre and the hotel is conveniently sited between the beach and the railway station.

Most Excellent! Wonderful place, very hospitable staff, great breakfast, very comfortable, excellent location, beautiful furnishings, spotless room. Everything was perfect at this place. We will definitely be back. Levanto is just as beautiful as the Cinque Terre towns, however, it is much more accessible by car. It has a beautiful beach to walk along. Excellent restaurants within steps of the front door. Our party had three rooms at the hotel. We highly recommend the place.

I was in Levanto for 4 days. The locatin is great. Right in the middle of town where all the restaurants and shop are and also only 2 blocks from the beach. Very easy access to the train station as well. I had a rental car, which is not needed. You can take the train everywhere - very safe and convenient. The hotel's breakfast was good and the owner's (family owned) where very friendly and helpful. I did have a little issue with the air condition. We were in Levanto during a heat wave - 95 to 98 degrees every day. The website said the rooms have INDIVIDUALLY CONTROLLED AIRCONDITIONING. Well, that is true, except that the owners have comand of the main switch and as much as you want to control your AC unit, if it is turned off by them you cannot do it. As hot as it was, they would only keep the AC on between 2pm-10pm, other that that it was shut off and the room got pretty miserable. Bathrooms a bit tiny, but very very clean.

We made Levanto our 'home' for eight nights and from there visited the Cinque Terre (were able to hike from Levanto to Monterosso too), Santa Margherita, Portofino (by boat from SM)and Lucca. We were very glad we did this instead of staying in the CT which was more crowded -- we did not feel quite like tourists. Angela (the owner of our hotel)and her niece Marina made us feel very much 'at home', always friendly and smiling. They looked after train schedule research for us as well as giving us dishes, cutlery and glasses for the one night we chose to 'picnic' on the hotel's patio. We could walk out the front door straight to the beach, a wonderful place for walking (on a raised boardwalk above the beach itself) as well as enjoying the sun. We enjoyed all but one of the restaurants we ate at too. Good food and friendly staffs. We never quite understood why churchbells rang so often but quickly grew to enjoy the unexpected 'music'!

This charming hotel is run by a lovely lady who speaks beautiful english, and I noted she also spoke several other languages very proficiently. The entire staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasant, and had many excellent suggestions on dining and the best way to visit the Cinque Terre. The breakfast is really great here, and you can dine in the beautiful shady garden. Levanto itself is a very old & interesting town and worth spending an afternoon wondering around. The last morning we had to depart quite early and they gave us a "breakfast to go" the night before. Just an example of how this hotel goes "the extra mile" We'd stay here again anytime!

Loved the hotel: breakfast is superb with freshly baked pastries and cakes, excellent coffee, and fresh fruit. staff was very accomodating, had onhand access to train schedules, and was more than willing to help plan day trips as well as train accomdations to next destinations. Angela, especially, really made the experience very welcoming. Rooftop garden offered great views of the city. room was clean, spacious and had balcony. shower a little small was the only drawback. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I enjoyed staying the hotel for 2 days in Lavento! A couple block from the beach, the hotel was located middle of downtown, so walking distance to restaurants and cafes. Since I could not drive into Cinque Terre, and Lavento is actually right next to Cinque Terre that able to drive into town, had a plenty of parking spaces, it worked out well for me. The bedroom & bathroom was very clean, and had a wonderful breakfast at the terrace. Staffs are kind and helpful, and they can speak English very well. I would go back there again.
