We tried to stay in Garmisch -Paternkirchen but due to an oversight by me, I messed up our booking and had to find some where else. Lermoos is a 27 minute drive to GP through the most stunning countryside - the drive is a Joy. This is a great little hotel, We had an apartment room in their chalet located 100m from the main hotel. The staff are friendly and welcoming and even when they were 100% full they had time to help out with any questions we had. The food was delicious & the village of Lermoos is a perfect size, with ski schools, slopes and really is picturesque. However the views from the hotel over looking the Zugspitze are amazing and worth the stay just for that. We where there in Winter 2010 and it is a magical place, but I am sure Summer time is just as spectacular.
