Grand City Hotel Leipzig Zentrum (former Mark Hotel Garni) - Leipzig

The building and the surroundings are not very appealing on first sight, but the staff is very kind and competent, apartments very spacious, clean and functionally furnished . The only negative thing is that it’s easy to hear your neighbors through the walls.

Excellent hotel for visiting Leipzig. Tram stop 50 meters away, only two stops to the edge of the central area (walkable in 10 mins anyway), three stops to the main station. Close to Grassi Museums. Good (continental) breakfast from 06:30, good for an early start. The only thing missing for me was WiFi, but I think they are working on this – not sure if it will be free.

My wife & I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights on one of our stops in Europe. The instructions provided quickly led us to the hotel (thanks!). Good: Clean room. Clean linen & towels. Good location (quiet neighbourhood, 10-15mins walk to the city centre). Friendly staff. There's a laundromat 3 mins away, which we found useful after 2 weeks of hand-washing our clothes. Bad: Bathroom heather wouldn't remain ON. 1 click of the switch would only turn it on for less than 1 min & it'd turn back off until you click the switch again. Pillow was way too soft. Lay your head on it & it feels paper-thin. Oh, they charge for wi-fi - smth we thought unusual as throughout the trip, we'd always had free access in the room. Furnishing was adequate, don't expect luxury.

This 3-star hotel exceeded all our expectations. My wife and I were also pleasantly surprised that it was situated within easy walking distance from Leipzig city centre, there was no need to use public transport. The building and its surroundings are obviously from the communist period, but it is good to see how everything else has changed since then.

The room was clean, spacious (actually, we had a whole apartment for the two of us) and quiet, the beds comfortable and the hotel personnel was very professional and friendly. The breakfast buffet was very nice, too. The big draw back was the building itself: it is one of those building blocks put together from pre-fabricated concrete during the communist times. Horrible shoddy stuff. If you don't mind that, go for it! You'll sleep very well.
