About Hotel Certosa San Giacomo

reception Hotel Certosa di San Giacomo reception We are glad to show you "Certosa di San Giacomo", an ancient monastery with eighteenth century church surrounded by 42 hectares of green grass and flowery gardens.

The monastery, built between 1197 and 1209 at Lauro, a medieval small town in Avellino province, became soon a place of agricultural production very famous for the quality of its products, and a place of spiritual refuge. Even today inside the "Certosa" are kept an ancient winepress and an olive grindstone and so it is continued the monks' tradition of producing wines like Fiano, Aglianico and oil for the "Certosa" customers.

Very well kept elegant island of tranquility in sometimes slightly messy surroundings which indicate nearby Napoli. Spacious rooms with beautiful views over hotel's huge gardens. Well situated for day trips to Pompeji, Herculaneum and also Paestum (but provide for excellent map if you wish to travel on country roads).

Everything was perfect in this great relaxing place. The only concern is that they have weddings every evening (we stayed 3 nights, 3 weddings) in the cloister. Depending on the wedding, it can get a bit noisy (1 out of 3) which is problematic with very young children. The surroundings and the building are even better than what you would expect from the pictures on their web site.
