Very expensive hotel compared to other 3 stars. It is no located near any ferry points. Welcoming was basic. The hotel is near the lake, therefore it is loud, but no problems if you wear ear plugs. You have to pay extra for conditioning.

We have stayed at the hotel 2 years running but this time we had a room at the back of the hotel facing the pool which was very noisey.

Pretty expensive for its location. Italy (even Lake Como) doesn't have to cost this much. There are cheaper places within a couple of miles, some of which are located directly by the Lake. The fixed dinner menu (10 Euro) is a good deal although you won't get the atmosphere of a typical Italian restaurant for this.

Don't worry about noise from main road, have plenty to drink in the great restaurant and get a room at the front; the view is absolutely stunning and is something that we will always remember. Food was great; location (view) stunning; highly recommended.

Very untidy and disorganised. The restaurant meal was well cooked but the waitress didn't even chill the white wine. It was served at room temp - which was warm!

I dont recomand this hotel because I had reservation of four rooms made in advance with 6 months and when I get to the hotel they said to me that I have no reservation. I was with 6 old people and it was unbelievable.

Rooms are small but clean, beds were comfortable. Bathroom had a stall shower, commode and bidet. There is a restaurant attached with dining on an outside deck that has a good view of the lake. The evening that we ate there the clear plastic flaps were down and the fireplace provided a comfortable level of warmth. Since we had a car we did not use public transportation, we did notice that there was a bus that ran. The staff was helpful and pleasant. This hotel did not have any internet connections. This hotel had a very nice breakfast which included cheese, fruit, yogurt as well at the standard items.

San Marino is a great place for views,It is on a very busy road, but we expected that. The walk into Laglio is an experience, down lots and lots of stone steps, through little dark alleys. .Food was good at the hotel,Service was a bit slow though. Bus service is good into neighbouring towns. Menaggio and Bellaglio are a must to visit. We would definitely return,San Marino is great value for money.

The hotel is adressed as being in Laglio but it is not. Very difficult to find . The hotel is on the main Cernobio road (faster road) above the slow road that leads you to Laglio if you follow signs from Como. You will know you are on the right road if the road from Como leads you through a tunnel. This hotel comes highly recommended. food and wine at the hotel really nice. The breakfast was very nice and there was a large selection of food to choose from.

Very poor breakfast. Low cost instant coffee from automata. Not all rooms have view onto the lake, but if you get a room with lake view, it is nice.

We stayed there only one night, passing through, and for that we found the place to be a great deal for the money. Some reviewers complain about the place being on the busy road with lots of noise and traffic. We did not find it a problem, but then again, our room was in the back, not facing the road. If you have one of those "noisy” rooms facing the road, you also get absolutely breathtaking views of Lake Como... for that kind of money?... I think it's MORE than a fair trade! The hotel has a restaurant which also overlooks the lake and serves GREAT food, a really nice way to end your day. You get the same when having breakfast, which was very good and is included. My only complaint here; being it’s ITALY(!), I could have done without a cappuccino from an auto-dispensing machine... The rooms are functional, but feel a little dingy. Same goes for the hotel's general interior appearance. Our bathroom floor matt looked old and worn out. May be it wasn't, but it sure didn't look inviting. There's no AC, so if that's important to you, take note. Typically though, nights there are fairly cool, and there was a very efficient ceiling fan, so it shouldn't be an issue. The husband and wife owners are very pleasant and helpful. Overall, while I think the place could use an interior designer and a bit of a facelift inside, it's a good hotel, and I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Actually the biggest problem was that the hotel did not recognized my reservation! You can imagine arriving at 8 PM after 5 hour driving and finding out you don't have a place to crash overnight... Fortunately the receptionist was kind enough to find another hotel for us; not same quality (although same number of stars rating, but very big and overcrowded with a bunch of English seniors). Same price though. What seems to me the fishiest thing is the speed with which another hotel was found by the receptionist, it seems to indicate that the reservation was actually there but they did not want to give us a room for some reason. Anyways, we've stayed in the overcrowded Britannia Hotel somewhere down the lake, but Como is Como and the beauty of the landscape makes every trouble fade away easily :)

After 22 hrs. of flying, dealing with lost luggage and the detour in Como...I would have to say... the hotel was heavenly! We enjoyed a very romantic dinner (order the pizza not the pasta) and even with the very loud road noise...the spectacular view made up for it! It is a great place to start your Italian vacation.

We stayed here to attend a wedding in Como and a reception in Laglio. We had imagined that we could walk to and from the reception, but that was not possible with our pushchair due to the very busy road and the many steps down (and up!). Without the pushchair, the walk would have been 20 mins. The advantage of being on the busy road is that it is easier for getting out quickly by car than the lakeside road itself, where parking is very limited and passing can be difficult. This is important, as there are no bars/restaurants within easy walking distance of the San Marino i.e. it's a good base, not a good destination. We had a side room with a bit of a view of the lake, as there were no rooms available at the front of the hotel. Lake views v impressive from restaurant and front rooms. There was traffic noise but it was tolerable. We ate breakfast, 1 lunch and 1 dinner at the San Marino. All were very good. Staff were very friendly. Good value for money. With hindsight, I’d have seriously considered getting the train from Milan to Como instead of renting a car, and using the savings to stay in Como itself and bus / water taxi around the lake. Parking in Bellagio was impossible! If you have a car, the San Marino is a good option. Note that there is a large plastic swimming pool that might have been nice for a dip if we’d taken our costumes – more for the kids though.

Excelent cost/benefit hotel in lake como area. How can you get 80 euros hotel in front of lake? San marino is a good choice. Actually the room view is from the side of hotel not front view but it is all right for us. Attention: Hotel is situated in the narrow road with a lot of cars speeding up! Quite dangerous for young kids in my opinion. Traffic at night is not a problem to sleep but you should have this point in consideration. Continental breakfast in the beautiful terrace restaurant is a great way to start a day. We also have a good meal at night before there. People is quite friendly and give some tips, like go to Chernobile to get boat (Please download boat time sheet before you go). I would suggest to spend at least two days in the area to enjoy all the locations.

The hotel and restaurant were simple but moderate price. Very polite service. In restaurant basic food, no gourmet but big portions. Everything was about that we had expected. If you are looking something only for one night I can recommend.

An absolutelty delightful hotel with views to die for. The rooms were large and clean as was the bathroom. The owner, his wife and staff were friendly and helpful. The food served in the restaurant was much better than average. The only drawback is the road in front of the hotel. This can be quite noisy, particularly during the night. I feel sure an extra bottle of wine with dinner would make the problem pale into insignificance. The steps down to the lakeside villge are steep and extensive and not suitable for those with mobility problems. On balance I would recommend the hotel to friends, but would mention the road.
