Hotel Teatro - La Spezia
Via Carpenino 31 - La Spezia
877-662-6988Very close from the railway station and few meters from the Morin walk, a touristic harbour from where leave the boats that links the city with the Cinque Terre, Lerici and Portovenere, the hotel is the ideal place for a relaxing stay, close to the sea and the beauties of the Gulf of the Poets.
The city of La Spezia, thanks to the particular conformation of its gulf, enjoys a privileged climate and it is for this reason that you can visit it during the various seasons of the year.

This family run business provides clean and comfortable accomodation, and the standout was the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners who spoke quite good English. Room size was on the small size but what one would expect in the old part (pedestrian mall) area of La Spezia. Cleanliness was faultless. Be aware that for buildings like this in the older areas you must be able to carry luggage up one flight of stairs We would recommend our friends stay here - hosts were just great!

Staff was kind and helpful, clean room. Hotel is located downtown so no place to park the car. The other bad point was the common bathroom, so sometimes you have to wait.

This was an amazing stay. The couple who run the hotel are so kind and welcoming, and very willing to help in any way they can. We needed to leave a bit early, and they helped make it happen, even though it meant less money for them. I love family run businesses, and this was certainly a great example of one. The room was very comfortable, and the hotel was easy to get to. You essentially walk down the road from the train station and land right at the hotel. Wonderful wonderful place!

I stayed in the room with the lowest price (25 euros or so). For that price and a single night on the way to Cinque Terre, it's quite a good deal. Decent deal for students and travelers not looking for a fancy accommodations and a romantic setting. Owner/manager was somewhat nice, but completely untrained and unaware of tourist culture and needs. The best thing about this hotel was the price, and location. Would not stay there again.

A very good place to stay. Antonio was very friendly, told us about what visit, etc. Comfortable room, good location, not too close the central station, but walkable. Very close to port and from others atractions.

It is a bit of a walk from the train station and the garbage trucks do wake you up in the morning, but the rooms are nice and clean. The beds are comfortable, and in it right in the middle of a nice shopping district.

We had never been to La Spezia before and were glad for the maps and comments from other travelers. We found a fabulous restaurant on a street nearby, where the waiters were dressed like pirates. The room was clean enough and the concierge was very kind and helpful. But there were a few problems: no long-term parking nearby, no breakfast (I suppose that is why it is a 1-star hotel), too much noise at night, and tabacco smoke in the hall that crept under the door of our room. We could have opened the window for more air, if there hadn't been so much noise in the street below. But this was a genuine on-the-ground Italian experience and we are still exclaiming about it!

The room had no airconditioning so we had to keep the windows open = a LOT of NOICE from the streets until late at night. It was quite for an hour, then there was traffic outside... The owner knows only italian, but it worked well with just some tourist knowledge. Clean room, shared (small) bathroom. Parking is a few blocks away, around the park, but it was HARD to get a parking lot at night. Parking is free between 20 - 08. If you're not travelling in the hottest time of the season, it's ok. And the price is low so that is good too, but you don't get that much sleep.. .

Small hotel takes up 2nd level in apartment building. Room was simple, but clean and spacious enough. Shared bathroom was a bit small but clean and bright. Location is a 15-minute walk from the train station ~ not a bad walk except it was over cobbled-stone streets so our luggage made quite a racket. Maybe not recommended to elder travelers due to the walk from the train station + their lack of an elevator. The manager was friendly and helpful, and his elderly mother was sweet!

The room was not very big but we were only there for 2 nights so this wasnt an issue - we also didnt expect much bigger for the price we were paying. Lady that owns the place was lovely, room was cleaned daily. We had a room with private bathroom but i had a look around the other rooms and communal bathrooms and they all looked as clean as our accomadation. Definitly recommend if you're looking for a nice and cheap place to stay. Location is also great for the bus to Portovenere and Lerici (bus stop 2 mins walk away)

The hotel was in a great location--close to restaurants, shopping, bus stops, and the bay-- but the hotel always smelled like smoke and any noise outside the window could be heard in the room.

We only stayed one night, but that was as planned. The only negative was that it was a bit hard to find for first-time travellers in that city. Otherwise, we were very well treated. No breakfasts provided.

What a welcome !! Excellent !! This hotel is a one star, but desserves better !! The only negative point is that in La Spezia, the wastes are collected early and it has woken me up, but it isn't the fault of this hotel. We really enjoyed our stay there !! We would recomend it to everyone !

Other places we got a room with private bathroom for the same price as the one without bathroom we had in Teatro, but Teatro is still cheap, and the location is good. The old lady working at the hotel couldn't speak English, but it really didn't matter, she was very friendly and helpful :)

The hotel was located in a side street just off the main shopping area. It was quite a direct route by foot ( about 15 mins) from the main station but this wasn't obvious from the map provided on the booking form. Although the person in charge had very little English she was very friendly and obliging and seemed to be available most of the time. Our room (a triple) had a separate bathroom and although the accommodation was quite basic it was very clean and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We really enjoyed this hotel. We arrived a bit earlier than check in, but we were lucky that someone was there (although he seemed a bit tired at 3pm, like he just woke up) and he showed us to our room. We got the room with the private ensuite bathroom, so apparently it was really a room for 3 people. Still, the price was excellent. Because there were 3 beds (a queen and a single), there was SO much room for us, and even a little private foyer for our shoes! The bathroom was our cleanest and nicest yet, and had a lot of space. The location was great, very close to the harbour and a 15 minute walk to the train station. In general, it was a great place for the price!

Hotel Teatro was sufficient for our purpose which was to explore the nearby Cinque Terre area. Frequent trains run to and from Cinque Terra throughout the day. It is a 20-30 minute walk to the station from Teatro Hotel. The hotel is a bare bones second-floor operation. The room was clean.

We stayed in La Spezia on our trip to the Cinque Terre. This wasn't a bad deal or location because there were trains every 5-20 mins. We stayed in room #3 which had a private bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink. We paid 65 Euros per night, and enjoyed the stay. The owner, an older woman, doesn't speak much English at all, but we were able to communicate with her. Very sweet old lady, we called her "Mama". She even ironed one of our shirts for us at no charge. The hotel is located on a quiet street off of a main street (no cars allowed in the area). Many restaurants, cafe's and shops in the area. A little far from the train station (~15 min walk) but I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is very good located, clean, and price is not bad for this quality. the description how to reach it by car was bad. they name a street Viale Armando Diaz, which we could not find. when u travel by car , reach the prt where the boats leave for Cinque Terrepart your car in the near parking and go by feed to the hotel. It is 5 min away. U cannot reach it by car. It is right next to the Theater

The hotel location is great, right in the center of the pedestrian areas, close to the port and 15 mn walk from the station. It is very convenient for cafes and restaurants, as well as for the evening passegiata! The rooms and reasonably clean and spacious (choose one with bath)and the bed was very good! A bit noisy, but lovely lady owner and great value for money for a budget hotel.

We came to La Spezia as a "jumping off" point for Cinque Terre. It's a good place to do this from. The hotel was nice and clean...and in a fairly decent location. La Spezia isn't the most exciting town in the world...but the hotel was close to the port, train station, castle, and other things of interest. All in all, very satisfied.

For anyone staying in La Spezia this is a central basic bed and breakfast. All was functional and very clean. At the price there are no grumbles. However, dont go expecting a welcome, the staff of one or two just open the door to you, show you the room and you dont see anyone again till you leave! No breakfasts served here. Its a series of bedrooms down a corridor, thats it! Fine for one nights stay prior to a boat trip up the Cinque Terre, but not for a longer stay. Room had no a/c and no fan.

Very good location if you want to visit Le Cinque Terre, but can't afford to actually stay in one of the towns. La Spezia itself is a great place to stay. The owner of the hotel doesn't speak much English, but I'm sure you can find a way to communicate. Overall, I would definitely recommend staying here.

La Spezia is a nice place and great base to explore Cinque Terre. The hotel is about 15min down gradient walk from the train station. There is nothing special about the hotel but great price for exploring the immediate and greater area. The staff cannot speak very good English but enough to get by. The Cinque Terre walk is one of the best walks we have ever done and the views are unforgettable but start early (we started the walk at 8.30am) as pesky tourists invade the villages around midday and takes a little shine off the experience. The Cinque Terre card can be purchased at La Spezia train station cost us €8.50 and allows you on the trains and the main walk – remember to validate it at a yellow machine. If you want basic accommodation to explore this place is great.

Fabulous place to stay. Easy to reach from the train station and very easy to get to the cinque terre without paying their exorbitant prices. Large comfortable room at a great place. In saying that we a shared bathroom which was very small- if you are circumfrentially challenged it may be quite akward. The woman who met us was friendly enough I think but spoke maybe 6 words of english (thats fine I speak maybe 12 words of Italian)but kept trying to talk to us- fine unless you are about to enter your room in a towel- she then opened the door where my partner had mercifully pulled on pants at the sound of this and she then tried to carry it on with him! Really only marked down because of interraction with staff- she may have been friendly but we sure as hell made sure the door was locked.

The room was very nice and clean in a very convenient area of La Spezia. The major drawback is that there was only one bathroom that guests were allowed to use and one morning I had to wait over an hour to use it. i tried to use the other bathroom on the floor but was told that it was not for the guests.

We liked our stay in Hotel Teatro. It is clean and our room was spacious. However, the hotel was difficult to find in La Spezia - it cannot be reached by car as it is surrounded by pedestrian only areas. We did not know this and whilst walking to the hotel was not hard, driving around in circles before realising this was frustrating. In saying this, now that we know, we would stay here again. Very central location.

The accommodation was fine BUT the distance from the station was very misleading: maybe 10 minutes of speed walking WITHOUT luggage. As a result, because no bus routes, numbers were indicated on the website, we had to take an overpriced taxi there and a confusing bus trip back to the station, during which my wallet with ALL my credit and other cards, my ID document, driver's licence, etc was stolen from my coat's inside pocket! Not a very good memory of an otherwise beautiful city! I had to borrow money to get to the other side of the city to make a police statement as the station police would not help me. Police in Italy I found are in general extremely unfriendly and unhelpful! Sad as we as SA citizens have to spend a lot of money on an Italian visa as well as S & T.

Was very pleased with the size and cleanliness of the triple room with ensuite that I booked only a few days before we travelled. The room was a bit noisy on ther sat night due to the party people outside on their way home but it added to the atmosphere and wasn't too bad. The lady who ran the place was lovely and allowed us to extend our stay an extra night as we loved La Spezia so much. The hotel is more deserving of a 3 star than a 1 star! The location is excellent with loads of restaurants around. Definately would recommend staying here.

Just as described on the site. Small but nice decor. Ideally situated for the harbour - access to boats. La Spezia is a great base for a few days and so much cheaper than the cinque terre villages.(Extract fan was noisy and street could clearly be heard but fortunately it is in a fairly quiet area.) Directions/ map doesn't clarify where it is in relation to the station. An easy 10-15 minute walk.
