If you come by car and will go by train to Cinque Terre Mary is the perfect place to stay. Park the car in garage under the railway station - the entre to hotel Mary is just across the street from the garage and for the railway station/ticket office you take about one minute walk.

When driving, it's easy to find this hotel located not far at all from a parkplace and from the station from which start the trains to Le 5 Terre. You feel really welcomed with kindness. The rooms are quiet, cosy with a lot of shelves and hangers for clothes. You get a very large choice of drunks and foods for the breakfast.

Very close to the train station. Hotel is very dated and seems to never have been renovated. The owners are unwelcoming and unfriendly particularly check-in and breakfast owners. Never once would a smile come from their faces. The owners are not very engaging and not helpful. You can tell the owners have been in the hotel industry for awhile and hate it. Find another hotel in La Spezia or try Levanto.

My room is small, but adequate-with bathroom. Individual air conditioning is available. Location is perfect - 20 metres from train station to catch train to Cinque Terre. In the evening, a short walk up the same street leads to many excellent restaurants of moderate prices. NOTE: no parking lot - need to find parking on nearby streets! Best for travellers arriving by train.

A little older property, could use a bit of touching up, but nothing major. VERY close to the train station. One tip--on leaving the station look for the tall red sculpture. Next to it you will what looks like a yellow box. There is a public elevator which will take you to the street below, directly across the street from the hotel. You will at reception in under a minute. Very handy if you have heavy luggage. Typical breakfast of cereals, rolls, meats, cheese, eggs, juices, coffee, tea, etc. Handy for Cinque Terre. Lots of good restaurants in La Spezia, but Hotel Mary has their own restaurant on site.

Excellent location, nice people, clean room. The only working air conditioner during my entire multi-destination trip to Italy. Staff provided maps and boat/train schedules upon check-in and were very nice the entire time. There were some fruit flies (or maybe they were flies from potted plants?) in the dining room. But unlike another reviewer, the staff cleaned up during the breakfast service and I didnt see it dirty later. Appeared to be otherwise very clean and well cared for. Pastries were fresh and good, unlike other hotels during my stay.

The location is easily located and really near to the train station. It took me less than 3 minutes to walk to the hotel. This makes my trip to Cinque Terre really convenient. Recommended for those who wants to spend a day at Cinque. The breakfast is really good and has wide variety. The young gentleman in the hotel speaks good English among all and that helps. Take the left stairs when you step out of the station and it makes the walking really easy. The nearby restaurants, cafe and supermarket is within 10mins walk. The only down side is you can really hear people from the next room.

This hotel is right by the train station which is a plus to be able to see Cinque Terre, Portofino and other close cities. It is on an extrememly noisy street with scooters, buses and cars whizzing by at all hours. Not great if you are a light sleeper. Breakfast was pretty good with a variety of selections. The area around the hotel did not feel very safe after dark. Room was spacious and you could actullay get into the shower easily which can be a feat in Italy:) If you stay here ask for a room in the back. Walls are also very thin so you can hear EVERYTHING in the room next door.

If you only plan to use La Spezia as your gateway to Cinque Terre and only sleep in this hotel, it's OK, and definitely very conveniently located very near to the train station. The bathroom floor had not been cleaned very well before I got in the room, and it didn't get better during my stay. The rooms could definitely use some alround TLC... everything just looks old and neglected. The closet was a DIY, which is OK, but I always had to open the drawer beneath the doors to get them open, adn that was a little annoying - and could be a source of injury. Thw walls are rather thin, adn I could hear the conversations in the room next door quite clearly. There's a reason they haven't posted any pictures of the rooms... The breakfast buffet was pretty decent. you have to get a code from the reception to use the wi-fi and it's good for only 10 cummulative hours, which was a little weird, but the connection was good the entire time. Overall a decent place to stay if you're on a budget and will only be using it as a place to sleep.

Since it is literally across the street from the train station in La Spezia, this is a great place to stay if you want to visit Cinqueterre (takes maybe 10-15 minutes on the train, and you can buy a pass for unlimited train use and visiting the park at the station in La Spezia before you leave), but at a more reasonable cost and without having to climb any terrible stairs to get to finally drop off your bags. The room and beds were nothing special, but reasonable. And the breakfast was pretty great, with lots of options. All in all a very good place to stay if visiting the Cinqueterre region.

We stayed in a double room with bathroom. The hotel is very close to the La Spezia train station which was ideal for a late night train arrival (11.30pm) and they were still very much open and operating when we arrived. I say this because at other hotels we seemed to be annoying the staff arriving late in the evening. Value for money is a bit tough. We paid 90 Euro for our room which was basic. It was quite a lot for a basic room however all other hotels in the area were very expensive as well so this is probably a good deal for the area. The breakfast buffet was very good - a lot of range of breads, pastries, eggs, cold meats, cereal, juices and hot drinks. I would recommend this hotel to people wanting to do the Cinque Terre as all C.T. trains run to the La Spezia station. Overall, it was an easy fuss-free place to stay.

Hotel Mary is located just a short walking distance from La Pezia’s train station from which you are able to make day trips to the Cinqueterre towns and Portofino. Downtown, the shopping district and the bus stop to Portovenere are all very close to the hotel as well. The rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and breakfast that includes: cereal, yogurt, pastries, juice, milk, coffee and tea. The staff is cordial and happy to help. It was a great stay for the price. I would recommend it to people who want to use La Spezia as a base to visit Cinqueterre, Portofino of Portovenere.

La Spezia isn't a great area to stay in- it's expensive considering what it has to offer. It is not a touristic town- very few restaurants, not much to see or do. All hotels in the area were priced much higher than we found anywhere else in Italy and the town didn't have anything to offer. Wireless internet did not work in the room (4th floor) but was available in the lobby lounge area. The room was spacious and clean. Bathroom newly renovated.

The breakfast was generous including cereal, juices, fresh croissants, coffees, breads/crackers and yogart. There was a large area in which to eat. When you arrive make sure to check the train schedule for times going to Cinque Terre; there weren't too many availible in the a.m. So you'll want to time it right. Once you get there you can walk to all of the towns (a full days travel plan) or take the trains inbetween towns). We also ate in LaSpezia, there are many restaurants just a short walking distance from the hotel.

We stayed at the "Mary Hotel" because it is very close to the station. We could easily get to the "Cinque Terre" by train. The rooms were clean and comfortable, we enjoyed our stay.

Clean hotel well located near the train station (just across the road). But it's also on what seems to be the main road through the town...even though we were on the 3rd floor, it felt like we were sleeping out on the street, such was the noise. It was so loud and never stopped all night. So thank God we were only there for 1 night. The hotel did'nt seem to be full so why we were'nt given a room at the back of the hotel is a bit of a mystery - I'm sure they know how noisy it is at the front. Breakfast was average, much smaller selection that other hotels we stayed in in Italy. We stayed here because we were'nt sure if we could get accomm in the village of the Cinque Terre. But there's so many places advertising rooms in the villages, that you should be able to get something sorted. La Spezia is a quiet town - we were there on a Saturday night but there was'nt a lot going on. The hotel is near the main pedestrian street, and this leads to the sea. A nice walk, especially along the waterfront. But I think the only thing La Spezia has going for it is as a jumping off point for the Cinque Terre.

Extremely well located a 5 minute walk from the train station. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the Cinque Terre or Carrerra. The single room at E40 was a bargain.

Great location ... across the street from the central train station. Great value. Perfect location for "jumping off point" for Cinque Terre exploration.

Very pleasant and accomodating staff. Great breakfast. Was perfect for our needs. A little hard to sleep with the street noise, but we were aware of that before we made our reservation.

Our room on the 1st floor gave onto the main street which didn't make the room over quiet! But the windows were double-glazed and as we always travel with a "noise machine" we were able to sleep well. The staff were very helpful and friendly. As the hotel was opposite the railway station this was very convenient as we were travelling by rail which included a visit to the Cinque Terre. The hotel was below the railway and we were not disturbed by rail traffic. The pedestrian shopping area of La Spezia was conveniently only 2 minutes walk away. Good value for money.

Very good location to train station-only steps away, but rude and very unfriendly staff. Not a good place for the money!

The plus was that the Mary is across the road from the railway station. However, that means it is a long walk from the more attractive parts of La Spezia. The staff were friendly enough but unenthusiastic, the room smelt strongly of disinfectant, and the noise and nightly smell of cigarette smoke from neighbouring rooms indicated cheap construction. Breakfast was only basic; in particular, the juice offered was the poorest we received in four similarly rated hotels we stayed in. There was no sign of an internet point, but neither did we ask. How does the Mary get three stars?

Hotel Mary is almost right across the street from the train station, so it's the perfect starting point to explore Cinque Terre from La Spezia. They room was very clean, very spacious (I think they upgraded us to their biggest room). It's also just down the street from La Spezia centro, which is a wonderful place to explore at night. Overall we were very pleased with the hotel, and would definitely stay there again on our next trip to the area.

Great place to stay. We were able to park and use the trains to visit the cinque terre and were really impressed with the location for La Spezia too. Parking is a bit of a hassle but once we parked the car we didn't need it.

We only had one night here, but it was a very pleasant stay. It is just so close to the train station, which suited us as we arrived quite late at night. The staff were very friendly and even made us hot chocolates to drink at 10.30pm. The bed was extremley comfortable and the room we had did not face the main street so was very quiet. Breakfast was also excellent and everything was good valus for the price. Certainly very convenient if you want to base yourself in La Spezia to do the Cique Terre.

Very convenient to the railway station, for travelling to all of the towns along the Cinque Terre. Room was quite large and very clean. Breakfast - little more than standard Italian fare – croissants were delicious, as was the cappuccino. For those with heavy luggage, there are 3 flights of stairs from the station to the hotel !

Although value for money in La Spezia, the hotel was pretty basic. It was convenient to the train station for visiting the Cinque Terre villages.

Everything regarding room, location and price, etc. was consistent with representations on the web site when we booked. Rooms facing the street/trainstation are predictably somewhat noisy, but no more than we anticipated, as we booked the hotel to be close to train station. Hotel is nice walking distance to plaza and on to the harbor.

I was really disappointed with this hotel. I could not recommend it at all. It is supposed to be 3 stars ... so why did I have an enormous amount of mould in my shower, big shower drainage issues, paper thin (and torn) sheets, staff being noisy outside my room at 6am and unacceptable street noise? I particularly liked the repsonse of the desk clerk when I asked him "Do you have a map of La Spezia which I may have?" ... "Go to the train station, they have them there". Three stars? I strongly disagree. Their offering was very expensive by Italian standards as well. Stay on one of the Cinque Terre instead ... there are lots of options there with a much higher quality. Breakfast was its only redeeming feature ... hot fresh pastry and espresso.

The hotel was quite adequate for the price charged (50 euros), and was just fine for one night's stay on my way to Cinque Terre. The room was quite small and somewhat shabby, though, but location was good - less than 5 min walking to the train station, and right in the middle of the city otherwise (can easily walk to the port as well). Probably wouldn't stay there for longer though...

The desk clerk was quite abrasive as we had to store our luggage because we had to go to the Cinque a Terre and come back. He wanted to store it in the lounge not locked up. I had to get someone else to help us and he did. I wanted a map of La Spezia. Again, he said he did not have one and I had to go to another man, who gave us a map

Good Hotel, good deal, good breakfast, good coffee. The street that the Mary is on is down a flight of steps from the street the station is on. it is NOT directly across from the station. We were able to store our bags. Convenient to Cinque Terre, unless you want to stay on the beach later than 1 am.

Stay here if you have no other choice!!! Hotel Mary is on a very busy road; street noise makes into the room all night. My room and AC unit had a heavy cigarette smell. The service was poor; the manager was gruff with my girlfriend. The town of La Spezia should only be a train stop on your way to Cinque Terra.

We found the personel very unfriendly and the fact that they were doing a rebuilding of the dining room did not help much either! The hotel was therefor overal very dusty, because of the breaking down a wall. Not to mention the noice all the rebuilding gave! We had stayed in a two-star hotel in Genoa in the days before and that was much, much beter!!

The closeness to the train station is a real plus. Parking is on street, but had no problem finding it. The hotel is run by Mary herself, and her son Claudio who speaks English. It was a great little hotel. Has an elevator. Optional dinner for 13 Euro was a good deal. Very friendly staff. I have recommended this hotel to friends staying in La Spezia, especially if using it as a jumping off point to the Cinque Terre.
