Mother & daughter travelling. Hotel OK, breakfast substandard, all packaged foods, small amount poor quality fruit. Room very noisy with windows open - next to hotel generator. Fridge and several lights not working. On plus side - hotel staff were excellent.

For a price of 130 Euros per night you definitely can expect more!! The pictures look much more friendly and lighter. First they gave us a room that smelled like an ashtray. However after trying to offer us roomspray (!!) we got a new room. We did not like the blankets (just sheets with a nasty woolen blanket) and in the bathroom there was absolutely no possibility to put your stuff (no shelves). The shower is only for very slim people. The breakfast is poor. No ham, no eggs, no cheese. Just artificial tasting cakes. However positive was the parking space and the situation of the hotel. For half the price it is possibly worth!!!!

We just came from a 3 star hotel at the sea site (S. Margherita L.) with more quality for more or less the same price. And it was impossible to open the window because of the staircase outsite: that should be an invitation to enter through the window. The breakfast was absolutely poor (and after the first time we never went back). Besides this the hotel seemed to be a hotel for groups.

My daughter and I had a pleasant stay at Asstoria La Spezia. It was a 15 min walk fr station so rather convenient. Room was simply but adequately furnished. Enjoyed the continental buffet spread of breakfast.

I stayed for two nights. The location was convenient to the station and ferry for Cinque Terre and la Spezia was a convenient and affordable base for exploration. The room was modern, clean and spacious. I would rate this stay higher except my TV reception was limited to one station and after telling 2 different people about the problem I still got no action... and there's nothing much to do in Le Spezia at night.

The Astoria was a real trip highlight, and my better (tho initially involuntary) alternative than scrambling for a lesser location at one of the Cinque Terre villages. (La Spezia turned out logistically better for me, too: it only adds about 8 minutes on the local train to any of the villages, better for main line connections to Milano, etc., and nice evening depressurization from the concentrated tourism activity of the Cinque Terre villages.) The Hotel is quite handsome, recently and extensively redone, rooms quiet, comfy and reasonably spacious. In the bathroom, I just don't understand the "no shower curtain" logistics, but otherwise the walls were striking red and white pin-striped tile and the floor was a medium red brushed cherry tile.) Bedroom floor was a nice fake hardwood and the furniture was adequate. Front desk people very helpful, friendly and organized. The big breakfast room, the staff, and range of offerings, were a pleasure in the mornings. Immediate surroundings are a bit ordinary, the Harbour about 20 minutes away. Umm, yes, carrying large suitcases up the 1/F staircase would be an effort (but compare the effort of dragging a big suitecase up and down the cliffside streets and lanes of the C/T villages). That and the missing shower curtain aside, if you have near my experience, you'll be very pleased you stayed here.

Stayed three nights. Excellent location, 10 minutes walk from station and shops/restaurants. Room and bathroom of good size, clean and good fittings/furnishings. Staff varied from indifferent to really helpful. No lift to first floor.Great for visiting Cinque Terre. Good choice.

Hotel Astoria is a convenient place to stay in La Spezia. Advantages are: central location, helpful staff, clean rooms. Disadvantages are: (valid only for the room I stayed) There was a long crack visible on the wall. It was probably only a paint crack but needs recovery. The bathroom was spacious, however there was no shelf to put shaving accessories. Tha bath cell could be a larger, as well.

We had a big terrace with our room (in the newer building), but we were not able to use it because there were no chairs. We asked the reception for two chairs, but they didn't want to handout two chairs.

I stayed at La Spezia as a base for my walk through the Cinque Terre. It is a great place to stay. The only problem with the hotel was that there is no elevator to Level 2 and I had to drag my suitcase up 30 steps but overall the place and service was excellent.

The room was good and within walking distance of the train station which was important to us since we didn't want to hike all over town with our luggage. The staff wasn't very friendly, but we got used to this being the norm in Italy. The room was expensive, but we had a great night of rest before we went to Cinque Terra. If you like heated towel racks this is the place for you.

Everything was ok except the car park which was unavailable. It had room for only 10 cars and we didn't ask for it at booking so we had to let the car on the street and pay for parking. To go to Portovenere or Cinque terre I recommend going by train or by boat because it's nearly impossible to park a car.

Very nice hotel. Convenient to the train station - important if you are visiting the Cinque Terre. The only complaint we had was the breakfast food was only so-so. If they added some fresh fruit and boiled eggs, it would have been much better.

A clean and comfortable hotel within 5 mins of the main railway station making it a convenient location to walk to even with a back pack. I would stay there again since the single room was bigger than average in Italy and it was modern and very clean. Not the biggest breakfast I had in Italy but no complaints on what was offered since it was adequate and fresh. Lovely coffee served very fast!
