Hotel Kunigaiksciu Mene - Kaunas

We had a comforable stay in this hotel for 3 nights - well located and very quiet. As the photos suggest its bare wood and simple furnishings - but quite comfortable with a reasonable breakfast. Staff very pleasant and helpful - initially somewhat reserved but open up quickly. There is a good wine bar just across the road (with good wine), it does very resonably priced simple food. There is a Chinese nearby in a yard off the same street as the hotel. Several guides recommend it. It's good value, but the service is surly. Some of the Italian chains on and off the main street offer good value food. A word of dining caution: We found that if something was described as spicy or Mexican in Kaunas it meant it was eye wateringly chilli laden. For sightseeing if you have come from Vilnius you need to switch into a different gear - whilst set up to cater for tourists Kaunas seems more a place for local people. The two art galleries are excellent (better than anything in Vilnius), the Devil Museum is well worth a visit and often amusing in unintended ways. If you have any interest in music visit the folk music museum - some of the instruments are beautiful - others just plain extraodinary e.g. the pigs bladder table bass.

Some confusion about the accessing wifi which was advertised but they actually offered cabled networking

Quite difficult to find with a car - lots of one way streets. Also incredibly difficult to park the car. Rooms very small, but cheap. Breakfast not great - meat, cheese, bread. Well located near the Town Hall and the Old Town. Staff had reasonable English, and it was one of the cheapest we could find so you get what you pay for.

Very difficult to find

Best value for money in traditional Lithuanian family hotels. In a side street 5 minutes walk from centre of Old Town and only 15 minutes walk from the New Town. 8 spacious old fashioned rooms with modern funiture and facilities. Rooms at back are very quiet.

We got an extra blanket. With other words we had a blanket each in the double bed. EXCELLENT!!

The the location is perfect for tourists. But if you are looking for something charming, romantic or designers type of hotel it is a wrong address. Simple but good breakfast. The reception was empty most of the time and not everyone spoke English. Looks like some people like to talk in the middle of the street in Kaunas. It was not the traffic that made the room noisy sometimes.
