The Mount of Olives is a budget hotel situated in the heart of Jerusalem's historical/Biblical center. The hotel is literally surrounded on all sides by famous churches and holy sites commemorating events mentioned in the Bible including the Chapel of Ascension, the Pater Noster Church, Dominus Flevit and the Garden of Gethsemane. A walk to St. Stephan's Gate in the Old City takes about 15-20 minutes via the Garden of Gethsemane. The view along the way is stunning.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! I usually find all caps annoying, but I couldn't emphasize more the horrible experience that I had at this hotel. I even contacted the hotel to see if they would be willing to dialogue with me about my experience, but noone responded. Here is a list of my complaints: (1) location good but with a hike - if you are a walker, like me, the hike up the Mount of Olives will wind you (even for a 33 year-old man in average fitness). I imagine I lost weight because of having to do this trip twice a day (but my knees suffered because of it). Even for hilly Jerusalem, the hike was a bit much. (2) hotel needs up-keep - the carpets were worn, the walls were drab from not being washed for probably years, the floors were decent...but overall, the hotel needed some major spring cleaning. (3) staff friendly but a bit cantakerous - actually, I should mention that they lied to me. See the point about the itching. They were really not helpful when I complained. (4) room okay - size and such were decent. (5) TV had tons of channels, but only three news stations - with nights being a bit hairy in this locale, I spent the nights in the hotel room. And watching CNN over and over again gets really boring! (6) no shampoo - I had to buy a thing of shampoo for only four nights. And the markets around were selling small-sized bottles (not travel-size but not your regular sized ones) for $3. I felt ripped off. *(7) itching - I barely got any sleep during my stay at the hotel! Every time I stayed in the bed, I started itching. The staff kept saying that this was the first time they had gotten this complaint. I didn't hear anyone else complaining, so I was thinking that maybe I was just allergic to the detergent they were using. And I couldn't find any evidence of bugs. But, on the last day of my stay, I was told by another patron that many other patrons were complaining of itching - of fleas! I'm not sure if it was fleas, but they definitely didn'
How to reach Mount of Olives Hotel
By car
From the airport, take the Ayalon Highway east to Jerusalem. It is approx. a 50 minute drive. Upon arrival, follow the signs to the Old City. Go clockwise around the historic golden walls of Jerusalem from Damascus Gate to Lion's Gate. The incline of the Mount of Olives is just opposite Lion's Gate. Continue along the road a bit further until you reach the The Garden of Gethsemene. Look for the Church of All Nations, turn left and continue eastward & up. After a fairly steep climb, the twisting & narrow road will suddenly end in a "T". Turn right and drive about 15 meters. The hotel is located next to the Chapel of the Ascension.
By public transportation
It's possible to take a shared taxi from the airport to Damascus Gate bus station in Jerusalem. From there, take bus #75 to the Mount of Olives Hotel. It's also possible to take a bus from the airport to the Central Bus Station. From there, take another bus to Damascus Gate, and then bus #75 to the Mount of Olives Hotel. Please be aware that bus service from Damascus Gate to the Mount of Olives will start no earlier than 6:00 am. and stops at approx. 9:00 pm. Also, airport pickup is available upon request for approx. $55 USD for a four passenger taxi including luggage.
