This hotel is inexpensive and a good deal for the price, but it has some flaws.
The breakfast was terrible, I really prefer an elevator to lugging my bags upstairs and the room was tiny. I had to type my dispatches with the laptop literally on my lap.
One of the first words I learned in Turkish was hamam bocegi -cockroach- and now I know why.
Although the staff was reasonably friendly, I was disappointed when I gave 5 YTL to a young man and asked him to do three things while I was out picking up my laundry.
1. Call me a cab and give the drive directions to my next hotel
2. Find out the time and price of a coach to Datca, on the south coast of Turkey
3. Bring down my bags from one flight up.
He didn't complete any of my requests and I ended up giving another 2 YTL to a different employee to fetch my bags abd I had to get the Datca information on my own.
The neighborhood is seedy but fantastically interesting. Just a few blocks from the main train/bus station in downtown Izmir and less than 500 meters from the ancient Agora, I couldn't have been happier with the location.
I wouldn't stay there again because there are many other better choices, but I think it is a good choice for a student or couple on a budget.
