Naz Wooden House Inn - Istanbul
Akbiyik Degirmeni sok no 7 Cankurtaran-Sultanahmet - Istanbul
877-662-6988Charming and intimate, the hotel is a well preserved 19th century traditional wooden house built right into Istanbul's old city walls and containing the original remains of an 8th century Byzantine Palace. There’s lots to see in this charming neighborhood which is well known for its rich heritage thanks to the Turkish tradition of gypsy culture.
The Naz Wooden House Inn neighborhood is an historically protected area characterized by its picturesque wooden houses. And of course, if you are visiting Istanbul, a quick ride will get you to some of the major attractions including the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome , the Church of the Divine Wisdom and for those lazy days, the hotel has beautiful rooftop terrace which gives you a wonderful view of some of these sights and more.

This is a friendly little Hotel in perfect location to see historic Istanbul. The view on the rooftop where breakfast is served is beautiful, on one side the Blue Mosque, on the other the ocean and all the rooftops of other houses. The room was small but had everything we needed. Bathrooms are clean and they even give their guests those typical slippers that you find in nice hotels. The staff was very friendly and also helpful when it came to coordinating our Istanbul experience. Absolutely Safe place in a good location and best prices I have seen.

Our entire stay was perfect. From the shuttle pickup from the airport, to the welcome and check-in by Indris at reception, breakfast overlooking the Marmara Sea, amazing view from the roof terrace, our 'Byzantine' room, the location - we loved it. Hotel booked Whirling Dervishes and Bosphorous tour for us. Breakfast was great - lots of options - from cereals, fruit, yoghurt to olives, cold meats, potatoes and sweet breads and cakes. We paid an extra 20 Euros for our Byzantine room - worth it! Felt like we were part of the neighbourhood - the young guys at the tiny store across the street always greeted us, as did others on the way up to the Blue Mosque area.

A great little hotel. It's only a few minutes walk from all the major sites and there's a fabulous view of the Blue Mosque from the roof terrace - we had breakfast out there every morning. (and I'd recommend you do to!) The rooms are small, but there's everything you need (and the hair-dryer is good, not like in some hotels!)and let's face it - you don't go on holiday so spend all your time in your room! The rooms and lobby are decorated in a traditional style, so none of your corporate blandness here - always a plus. Even though there are lots of hotels and restaurants in the area, you're still in a part of Istanbul where the locals live and work which is great. There is some noise from the train track, but we didn't really notice it. The staff in the hotel are all friendly and helpful. If you can pay by cash at the end of our stay you get a 5% discount. We used the transfer on offer from the hotel from the airport. It might have been more expensive than going via another route, but it made life much easier arriving at 11pm! I'd definitely stay here again. Oh, yes and there's a little supermarket just outside which is very handy and the staff there are lovely as well!

We stayed 5 nights here at Naz and it was one of the best places we've stayed at in Istanbul. Hotels in the city are generally high quality, and on our fourth trip Naz didn't disappoint. A cute room at a very reasonable rate, it was cleaned daily and remained spotless throughout. Breakfast was great compared to other places, with plenty of it. We enjoyed the free tea and cake in the evenings with the terrace generally all to ourselves, with views of the Blue Mosque on one side and the Bosphorus on the other. The staff were always so polite and welcoming, and my partner had a nice banter with the breakfast lady who'd tease him about always arriving in his pyjamas.

Naz Wooden House was a wonderful place to stay in Istanbul. Our room, the Byzantine Room was awesome - built into the ancient walls of the city with a ceiling of stone and wood - the room was comfortable and tasteful. the rooftop terrace was fabulous - we were there for the full moon over the Sea of Marmara and on the opposite side was the brightly lit Blue Mosque. Staff, especially Hakan, were very welcoming and Hakan truly went out of his way to be sure we had a great time. He and my husband had Turkish coffee each evening and discussed the world - breakfast was lovely and filling and tea and cookies were always available in the terrace kitchen. There was free internet available at the travel agency nearby. The train came through right outside of our window, but double paned windows and earplugs made the noise a nonissue even for this challenged sleeper - the trains were short and they stopped for the night at midnight. We would HIGHLY recommend this hotel.

We found the service at Hotel Naz and its sister hotel Deniz Konaz helpful and efficient as well as friendly. Everything was done to facilitate our needs. We recommend both hotels although Deniz Konaz offers more spacious rooms. Hotel Naz is cosy and quaint.

Hotel and it's room is cozy. Room is bit small but it doesn't matter so much. Location is not so good for walking around Istanbul, but seeing sea of marmora from wasn't bad. Staff was also nice. I recommend this hotel to the people who are not interested in big city hotel.

Nice cosy warm hotel, in the centre of the oldest part of Istanbul. 5 minutes walk from Blue mosk and all other monuments. Only one remark: the windows in the room nr.1 couldn't be opened and the air from outside is coming just from a small hole that doesn't provide adequate ventilation. When you book ask in advance not to provide you with that room.

Never accept to arrange your trip from the airport to the hotel with them. Use the tram, that is quicker and cheaper. Very good breakfast. They don't speak english very well.

Homely little inn five minutes from the Blue Mosque and in easy walking distance of all the main sites in Istanbul. The staff are friendly and helpful. We had one of the bigger upgrade rooms actually set into the city walls and were very comfortable. The place is spotlessly clean throughout and we had proper sized bath sheets, hand towels and floor mats (changed every day and the bed linen every other day). There was air conditioning, an internet socket, a flat screen TV (CNN available for news updates though dominated by US elections during our stay) and a small fridge with a range of inexpensive snacks. We quickly found the shop on the corner of the street where a 1.5l bottle of water was just 1YTL (50p) and we decanted this into the smaller bottles to take out. Fantastic views from the rooftop and breakfast terraces. Excellent breakfast spread each morning with a good selection of cheeses, breads, pastries, jams, cereals, dried and fresh fruit (usually melon), boiled eggs plus tea/coffee on tap from 11-4pm each day. This is not an hotel for lounging in as there is only a small lobby and there are no easy chairs on the terrace. But we were out all day so this wasn't really a problem. The main suburban train line is right outside the back of the hotel so we only had a tiny window which opened and it was very noisy, but would suit urbanites. We used the airport transfer service supplied by the hotel and on arrival at midnight were being called by the airport information desk even before we had picked up our luggage. As first time visitors to Istanbul, we appreciated the certainty and efficiency of this (40E return for the car). The hotel gives a 5% discount to anyone paying in cash, something not mentioned on the website. Cash (YTL, dollars and euros) is easily available from ATMs.

Railway out the back was loud and frequent but at least it didn't run at night, and we saw dolphins from the roof terrace at breakfast time! Breakfast was very good and free tea and coffee was very welcome. I would recommend this hotel to people who sleep well in noisy places!

Hotel staff were polite. They did try to sell us the hotel airport transfer very strongly (actually getting a taxi turns out cheaper...). The breakfast is not fabulous (instant orange juice mix!) but good enough to start the day with. The rooms facing the street are noisy during the day as people talk and kids play outside + cars pass by. Day 2 they moved us to a room with a balcony - really beautiful (no. 4) and relatively spacious. Beds are comfortable and there's a good strong shower room. Unfortunately it's just above a railway line so it is very noisy in the day (not many trains at night). All rooms have a wooden finish which makes them very cosy. Overall it was a good stay (we knew about the train line) and close to main tourist sites and tram. The views from breakfast rooms are fab! Pity the rooftop has no bar and there's no beer in the minibar. Good value/price - def would return.

A bit tricky to find but the taxi driver sorted it out. Very warm welcome in the morning after an overnight train from Bucharest, straight to the top floor for the lovely breakfast. What a setting! Look one way out to sea, the other way to the Blue Mosque, superb. We had a small room but with a fine modern bathroom. Hotel very convenient for the main sights, all walkable.

The hotel characteristics corresponded well to the average comments on venere. Hotel is very typical and when you wander in Istanbul and see all these old wooden houses, you really value to actually stay in one of those. Rooms are small but very clean. As we had read in other comments, train passes right behind the hotel so you might want to ask a room with the view on the street (and actually also on the Blue Mosquee !!). You will probably hear the muezzin morning call around 4:00/5:00 am, but it doesn't last long, you fall right back to sleep, and it is definitely part of the experience! The hotel is within a 5 min walk to the Blue Mosquee and St Sophia, which is a great location. Try to have dinner at Rami, one famous restaurant, and very good! To summarize: if you want to spend a large part of your time, resting in your hotel, don't go there; but if you want a typical modest place to stay, this is it!

An atmospheric and idiosyncratic hotel with wonderful views at breakfast-time. The room was tiny, but clean and cosy. It was furnished with hand-made carpets and bedcovers, had a new and stylish shower room and new air-conditioning unit. Breakfast was excellent and fruit was provided in room. Great location for sightseeing and restaurants. Immediate surroundings looked tatty, but felt very safe. Free airport pick-up service was provided. We had an excellent time, and the hotel added an individualistic local feel to our stay.
