Absolutely ideal location near Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque; and surrounded by dozens of restaurants. Spotlessly clean room. Would stay here again when visiting Istanbul.

I can recommend the hotel. The hotel manager and the night clerc were very nice and helpfull with good english. The girl that prepared breakfirst does speak only arab. Great view to the see and to the blue mosque from the roof and from the breakfirst floor (3rd floor). Very clean rooms. The hotel is in a well known nice street were other tourist come to look around. Many other small, but nice hotels there. During the day it's relatively calm, many people on the narrow street. From 8 to 12 pm, sometimes an hour longer, you here the disco nearby very clearly and the young people on the street in the restaurants. The windows are very well isolated and if you close them its astonishingly calm. It's great when you come back from the tram by night and pass the lighted blue mosque just four minutes before you arrive at the hotel.

We stayed 5 nights in may 2010 in gul sultan, the employees were very kind, nice and offered a good welcoming and advices. very good localisation, juste near the old quarter (blue mosquee, aya sofya, topkapi...) but the bad point is the very noisy street (bars and restaurant). good place to stay if you don't mind about noise.

Well situated for all the sights and getting around Istanbul. Room was a lot quieter than I thought it would be, and I was told that they'd had new windows fitted last year. The only thing letting the hotel down was the breakfast, very basic and no real coffee! Nescafe and powdered milk do not, in my opinion, count as coffee. Apart from that, lovely place and I would stay there again.

The hotel is splendid, and the people who are working there, are filled with warm hospitality. The director of the hotel is very charming and very helpful. We really loved to stay at this hotel, and we are coming back. Astrid and Nils, Norway

First time to Istanbul, the location was really good since the hotel was close to the main attractions. But the hotel is on a small street with many restaurants and bar, the area was extremely loud at night, until 1:00 or 2:00 o'clock in the morning every day of the week. We recommend to ask for a room on the back of the hotel to avoid the noise coming from the front street. The room was clean, but when we left our key to have the room cleaned as requested, they didn't change the towels and the sheets. The staff was really helpful when we had questions about the area.

This is a great hotel in the perfect location in Istanbul. It is right in the heart of the Sultanahmet, near all of the main Istanbul attractions. It is on a street with many other hotels and hostels, but is one of the more modern and newer establishments. Unlike many of the other hotels and hostels, it does not have a bar on the first floor, which my wife and I prefered after a hectic day walking around Istanbul. The rooms were clean and the bathroom was one of the nicer and more spacious ones we encountered in all of Europe. The owner was very helpful and courteous. A great value for the price. I would highly recommend it to other couples, backpackers and families.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel. The staff were friendly but not intrusive and the room was spacious, clean and well appointed (something we had perhaps not expected from the accounts we'd read of other Sultanahmet hotels). Light sleepers may have found our street facing room slightly noisy but there was decent noise insulation from the windows (and comfortable air-con in that instance). Very agreeable sea-view roof terrace for (a decent but not remarkable) breakfast up the metal stairs from the main breakfast room though seldom used by other guests (maybe because not highlighted well). Excellent place and location for the price.

We were very satisfied with our stay at this charming hotel. The view from the breakfast room is indeed beautiful. The breakfast, while not extremely varied, was adequate. The rooms are probably quiet normally, but we had e chance to be there during the 2008 World Soccer Championship, when it was difficult to find a quiet place anywhere in Istanbul.. If you use the airport shuttle on your departure, make sure you give yourself some more time, our shuttle, reserved by the hotel, arrived 15 minutes late...

A lovely little hotel ,located right in the heart of Sultanahmet. The room was a good size with a big en suite bathroom. Breakfast was simple yet adequate, served on the roof terrace with beautiful views. The hotel is on a lively street, which does get noisy at night. The owner was very helpful, with organising tours and recommending restaurants etc.

My wife and I had a great stay at Gul Sultan. The staff were exceptionally nice and helpful. The room was clean and relatively spacious. The location was perfect with a wonderful view of the Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia, and the water. Breakfast was good and served in a very pleasant room on the top floor. We were within walking distance of the major sites and public transportation. I would highly recommend this hotel. The only negative was street noise. Our room was on the street side of the hotel and in a fairly popular area for tourists. Hence, late at night you could hear quite a bit of activity outside which isn't all bad because it prompted me to check out the nightlife nearby and I had a great time! That said, we loved the hotel and the staff. If I go back to Istanbul I will stay at this hotel.

It is a family managed hotel and has only 8 rooms. The manager who is also the owner is very hospitable and gives you suggestion on how to best utilize the time available. However, the breakfast left much to be desired. All in all, I would recommend the place because of its close proximity to Blue Mosque,Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace.

The hotel is located at the end of an animated street with restaurants and (the omnipresent) carpet shops, and just a few minutes from Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. I was staying in a nice and clean single room with a comfortable double bed. The windows could isolate most of the occasional noises from the street, but not the prayers from the loudspeakers of Hagia Sophia which woke me up one early morning. The breakfast was simple. Considering the convenient location, it is good value for the money.
