Hotel Fehmi Bey - Special Class - Istanbul

We stayed here for 4 and then 3 nights. Can't say enough about how great it was in terms of location and amenities. It is a short walk from the Sultanahmet tram stop, so a great location. The terrace, where breakfast is served and one can relax during the day, has a spectacular view of the very close Blue Mosque and of the Sea of Marmara. Lots of inexpensive and good restaurants close by. Excellent value for the cost compared to others. Quiet area at night. Arrived early morning both times (split stay) and were able to get into our room immediately -- once at 8:00am.

The accommodation was very good for the price paid, which was euro 70,00 daily for a single room with breakfast. The staff was extremely helpful and fluent in English. Made me feel at ease and welcome!

The only good things about this hotel are the location and some members of staff, most notably the receptionist and the breakfast staff. However, some of the other staff were downright rude. We booked for four nights, but left after one night of very little sleep, mainly due to the noisy location and the deeply uncomfortable bed. Our room bore no resemblance to the photos on the site - it was borderline grubby, though the bedding and towels were spottless, as was the bathroom. We had a 'terrace', which was more like a dirty concrete bunker, with a door that didn't lock and was accessible from the building next door. The terrace looked as though it hadn't been swept in living memory. We moved to another hotel nearby and were given a beautiful, clean, stylish (quiet!) room for exactly the same price. Sorry, but we won't be going to the Fehmi Bey again - we live in Turkey and visit Istanbul regularly, as do many of our friends and colleagues, but the Fehmi Bey won't be getting any recommendations from us!
