They have a fantastic 3-person room on the 6th floor, some kind of an extra level built on the roof. The walls are made from something like paper, you can hear your neighbours very good, but you'll have a huge 90 degree window and a terrific view on the Golden Horn. Despite poor customer service and noise from the nearby railway station you can get the best - feeling of real Istambul!

Sorry - epic fail. The room is tiny. Not even the space to place your baggage anywhere. The floor was dirty, even the bed was ..... No comment for the bathroom (not even sure to call the facility a bathroom. But a wide variety of nice clean and affordable Hotels in the direct neighboorhood.

Be-careful!!, there a 2 buildings, a new one and an old one. The new one is very good and great value for money, the old one...well if your unlucky like us and having to stay 4 nights in a deteriorated room, (walls chipping, bathroom shower leaking), then your going to be upset. 5 floors no lift (old building). The internet WiFi was good throughout and staff generally very polite. Breakfast POOR!! Parking is on the street in front otherwise you pay for closed parking (I paid 20 euros for 1 week for motorbike, no much but I booked a hotel hypothetically with parking).

Simple rooms with basic facilities - no frills. Confusion - we had to change rooms during our stay. Language problems? Good for touring Sultanamet.

There should have been a SIGNIFICANT discount given that they were doing construction next door and started banging over my head at 9am all day long. The hotel didn't have clean towels when I needed them and didn't clean my room the first day, even though I asked them multiple times to fix the leaking shower and fix the overhead light that was not working. On the 3rd day these issues were finally addressed and the staff was very helpful booking a shuttle to the airport, but I was otherwise unimpressed. The breakfast hours were never told to me and they start clearing food away early, although at least if you make it downstairs on time the offerings are decent and the seating area downstairs and outside is quite nice (minus the construction noise).

Great place in old city in spite of a noise of reconstruction of buldings in neighborhood. 15 minutes to main monuments, 5 minuts to port.

this was the first and "no more" time at this hotel. I was a tourist in Istanbul, nice city, nice time, but the hotel was a nighthmare. The arrival was as a "scarred" and comical one. The surveur was sleeping and 30 minutes after scratching the windows he open the door. He give us a room for this night without any conciesness, they was terrible to see this room in the morning....after a trip of 24 hours really this was the last thing that you need. The only positive that this hotel have it's to be near the Topkapi and Blue Mosque sites. For the next I never can recommend this hotel to anyone

Great location and staff were OK too. Rooms need maintenance, a broken toilet and loose basin plus holes in the wall and a loose TV cable should be easy to fix. Curtains didn't cover the windows either. We had to go up 111 steps to the top so beware you are fit, especially if you have heavy luggage.

Great staff. Rooms were small but adequate. Rooms were well maintained and clean. Hotel is on a side street two blocks from the tram station, but not very well marked, except for the main sign, which blends into the adjacent buildings. Main stairs are very steep and narrow and the room doors open directly onto the stairwell (minimal landing). Not for people with balance problems. Great location, 7-10 minute walk to Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace, and Basilica Cistern. I understand that a new hotel is being built across the street to house a new Esen Hotel. Overall, a clean acceptable hotel with great friendly/helpful staff. I would recommend the Esen to others.

Great place to stay. Lovely guys working at the reception. All excellent. I had a great experience there. Great price/value ratio. Nice location, just a few minutes walk from Istanbul's famous bridge. And a few minutes walk from the Hagia Sofia and the blue Mosque. I would definitely go back. The only draw back for me was the room size, but it was as big as the pictures so I wasn't surprised.

I thought this hotel was a good value. Great location in the heart of old Istanbul. I spent five days walking the area and felt there was still much more I would like to see. My room was small and spartan, but the mattress was firm and very comfortable, and everything was clean. The staff was extraordinarily helpful to me. They had a loaner laptop so I could check email. They helped correct a difficult problem with my airport shuttle. The tea in the lobby was delicious. I was grateful to them for all they did to make my stay pleasant. The Esen did not have all the luxurious conveniences of a 4-star. It felt like a Turkish hotel instead of an American one located in Turkey, but I regarded that feature as a positive. I do not speak Turkish, so sometimes communications were difficult, but I departed with a feeling of gratitude toward and friendship for the people there. I hope I can return for another visit.

The hotel might not be the fanciest out there, but the location is wonderful - walking distance to galata, grand bazaar, sultanahmet, and right next to a tram stop. Also, lots of great eateries and bars near the hotel. The staff were also super helpful (helped us figure things out when our taxi to the airport didn't arrive, and talked to people in turkish for us). Also, the included breakfast was large (and yummy) enough to last well past lunch. All in all, if you're looking to do Istanbul on a budget, Essen is an excellent idea.
