Was affected by building works but location is great for old Istanbul and the Serkeci area. Handy for trams and ferries. Cheap old style Istanbul hotel - like it used to be. Plenty on the doorstep.

Advantages: the hotel is very near to the metro station, about 100 meters. Nearby many restaurants and souvenirs shops. It have elevator, not many budget hotel provides elevator in Istanbul.I was travelling with my 60 yrs old parents, so elevator is a must. The those who mind about halal food, the hotel owner is a Muslim. Disadvantages: Same breakfast everyday, but enough for your morning energy. The hotel owners & some staff does not speak in English, just 2 of them can converse in English. They are not really welcoming the guests, and keep asking us to pay the rental fees. Seldom smile but can offer helps if we request for. We stayed at the 3rd floor, the water flows was not good n it is smelly. The room was so small. But this hotel is consider ok if u want to compare with the price.

We stay 3 days in Istanbul and Emek is very well located in the old city. Very close to all the interesting points. The owners are very kind and offer facilities. The only negative point was the noise during the night but perhaps due to the ramadan time. Good adress

Me and my family consulted the web reviews before booking Hotel Emek and found the reviews to be quite apt when we arrived there. We stayed there for four days and found the staff to be co-operative, helpful and homely. They arranged for an airport pick up when we asked them to do so over e mail. The stay there was very pleasant. The room and bathroom were cleaned everyday. Considering that four people were staying in one room, the room wasn't very spacious. Complimentary breakfast was the usual Turkish breakfast of beverages, cheese, vegetables and eggs but was very filling. For those who don't know Turkish and speak English, all the members of staff are not very well versed with English, so there were occasional language problems. Most of the historical places worth visiting in Istanbul were just a couple of minutes walk away from the hotel premises and train stations were around as well. The hotel is at the end of an alley, so is a bit away from the hustle bustle of the street. One can find a lot of bakeries and eateries around the place. All in all it was a memorable experience with the staff being friendly, helpful and extremely cooperative at the same time.

The hotel is budget price ,clean and breakfast was adequate however the bathroom was so small to use the toilet you had to have your feet in the shower tray. Not enough room to swing a cat round which was a shame as this would definitely stop me from using this hotel again. Located in very run down area, no views but very handy for all the sights.

Everything's all right with Emek hotel. I have paid and I have got what I had paid for, say a single room + W.C. + bathroom +breakfast. Although the premises are not like a new building, everything was working. The staff cleaned and tidied up every day. The location is perfect, about 200 meters from Gülhane tramway station, so that you can reach the hotel directly by subway + tramway if you come from the Atatürk Airport. It's also close to Sultanahmet (Aya Sofia, Blue Mosque) and Galata Bridge. I would go again in this hotel. Thanks!

I am surprised by some of the comments on the web-site. The staff were friendly and efficient and the room was clean. It is a low budget hotel and the room was a bit small but the shower was hot and the bed was reasonably comfortable. Walls are thin and if someone does talk, you can hear it. But generally the other guests were very quiet and I slept well. It is within easy walking distance to the Gulhane Park, the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and a really good tourist market.

The hotel position is very convenient, very close to all the most important attractions so you can easily walk everywhere. Breakfast is good. As expected, lodgings were very simple with small rooms. Breakfast was also very simple and the location was ok. But the bathroom was a nightmare full of mold. Do not expect to read in your room as there is only one dim ceiling light. Most of the staff speak no English or other languages which means do not expect assistance seeking information about attractions, etc. They will make a phone call to arrange transport to the airport. It was cheap (you get what you pay for) but I would not stay here again.

The Emek Hotel location is probably its main drawback as it is in a rather depressing end of a street- no other shops operating in the immediate vicinity. It's initially disappointing for this reason. Having said that, it's very close to the main Staion hotel/eating area and tram route, and perfectly safe at night, so it's fine. The staff were really nice and always willing to help.

We paid 41 euros per night, which would get a reasonable B&B in the UK. This hotel is on a derelict street (we had to drag our bags through roads that were being dug up) and it is liotereally at the end of the road! When we arrived, the guy at the desk really couldn't be bothered and only took an interest in us when we decided to leave! We had to pay for the first night so we stayed. The room had a smell of stale sweat, the was broken and the electrical sockets were hanging out of the wall! The walls were so thin that we had to listen to the tv accross the hall all night so we had a sleepless night and booked into a different place the next day. Unless you're looking for the cheapest place that will keep the rain off you then it's best to avoid this hotel.

The hotel is in a rather run-down back street close to the railway station, so the immediate surroundings are not impressive. However it is very close to a main shopping street, with a variety of cafes and restaurants, easy access to frequent tram services, the rail station and the ferries, and walking distance of important sites such as Hagia Sophia. The hotel itself is quiet, the rooms clean (frequent changes of towels, for example) but lacking tea and coffee-making facilities, and the 'en-suite' in the room in which we stayed was extremely cramped - though the water in the shower was encouragingly hot. Meals are not provided, so it is necessary to go out for breakfast - available close by, though often not before 10 a.m. in some cafes. All-in-all, for a cheap stay, the hotel is adequate for a few days, though the lack of some basic facilities would make an extended visit rather inconvenient.

The room was dirty. The sheets smelt, the wall paper was peeling off. The drain for the shower ran onto the floor and I dont think the toilet had ever been cleaned. The tap water smelt like sewerage....we had to get our own air freshener just to be in the room. The room was only cleaned once in the 5 nights we stayed and that is because we asked them too. The brochure and website photos showed a completely different bathroom. We found other accomodation for out other nights for 3 euros more with 100% improvement. The highlight of staying at Hotel Emek was checking out!!!!

They never bothered to clean the room, unless asked. Therefore you had to go to reception to get basic things like soap or toilet paper. Even though the email booking said payment at the end of the stay the first thing they did was hassle us for money and continued to do so every time they saw us - until I just gave in after a couple of days and gave it them early for an easy life. The main sellings points are that: (1) it is cheap (2) 5-10 minutes walk from all of the things you would want to see in that part of town like: Haga Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi, The waterfront etc (3) it is near by shops, food places, supermarket etc

Hotel Emek is really very ideally located to visit the Aya Sofia, the Blue Mosque and the Topkapi Palace. These places are all within 5 minutes walking distance. The hotel is located in a quiet side street. The rooms are small and not all of them have private showers (at least not all the singel rooms, I haven't seen the other rooms). Unfortunately there's an old elevator that rumbles through the building and can be heared in almost every room. Hotel Emek is definitely a budget option, don't expect any luxuries but if you stay for only a couple of days and want to see the major attractions in Istanbul the location of the hotel is perfect.
