As expected, lodgings were very simple with small rooms. Breakfast was also very simple and the location was ok. But the bathroom was a nightmare full of mold. Do not expect to read in your room as there is only one dim ceiling light. Most of the staff speak no English or other languages which means do not expect assistance seeking information about attractions, etc. They will make a phone call to arrange transport to the airport. It was cheap (you get what you pay for) but I would not stay here again.

The location of the hotel is great, very close to all historic parts of Sultanahmet district, within a 5 min. walk you can reach Blue masque, Hagia Sofia or Topcapi palace. but the rooms are ultrasmall and not very clean. I would prefer to stay in bigger rooms and not such a tiny room!

The Emek Hotel location is probably its main drawback as it is in a rather depressing end of a street- no other shops operating in the immediate vicinity. It's initially disappointing for this reason. Having said that, it's very close to the main Staion hotel/eating area and tram route, and perfectly safe at night, so it's fine. The staff were really nice and always willing to help.

We paid 41 euros per night, which would get a reasonable B&B in the UK. This hotel is on a derelict street (we had to drag our bags through roads that were being dug up) and it is liotereally at the end of the road! When we arrived, the guy at the desk really couldn't be bothered and only took an interest in us when we decided to leave! We had to pay for the first night so we stayed. The room had a smell of stale sweat, the was broken and the electrical sockets were hanging out of the wall! The walls were so thin that we had to listen to the tv accross the hall all night so we had a sleepless night and booked into a different place the next day. Unless you're looking for the cheapest place that will keep the rain off you then it's best to avoid this hotel.

A street does not look very nice. We stayed on the first floor, windows to the street, so it was quite noisy. Room was small without any cupboard to put clothes. Bathroom was very small without shower curtain. Dusts from the table probably were not clean during all our stay :)

The hotel is in a rather run-down back street close to the railway station, so the immediate surroundings are not impressive. However it is very close to a main shopping street, with a variety of cafes and restaurants, easy access to frequent tram services, the rail station and the ferries, and walking distance of important sites such as Hagia Sophia. The hotel itself is quiet, the rooms clean (frequent changes of towels, for example) but lacking tea and coffee-making facilities, and the 'en-suite' in the room in which we stayed was extremely cramped - though the water in the shower was encouragingly hot. Meals are not provided, so it is necessary to go out for breakfast - available close by, though often not before 10 a.m. in some cafes. All-in-all, for a cheap stay, the hotel is adequate for a few days, though the lack of some basic facilities would make an extended visit rather inconvenient.

Hotel Emek is very nice and warm atmosphered place for staying. I could stay there very relaxed. The room is cleaned very well everyday and the all staffs are very friendly. And the hotel is very safety for woman traveller. This is the big advantage for single traveller I think. I recommend this hotel if you want to enjoy sightseeing around istanbul. You can go to everywhere by foot very easily.

This was the best budget option we could find in Istanbul. The location is good and is walkable to all the major attractions in the old city. There was free wireless connection on the lower floors. You can actually get a cheaper rate if you book directly on their website.

What advertised not quite true, i.e. bathroom very small and in poor condition. Comparing to other hotels in area, most probably Quality vs. Price can be better.

The room was dirty. The sheets smelt, the wall paper was peeling off. The drain for the shower ran onto the floor and I dont think the toilet had ever been cleaned. The tap water smelt like sewerage....we had to get our own air freshener just to be in the room. The room was only cleaned once in the 5 nights we stayed and that is because we asked them too. The brochure and website photos showed a completely different bathroom. We found other accomodation for out other nights for 3 euros more with 100% improvement. The highlight of staying at Hotel Emek was checking out!!!!

They never bothered to clean the room, unless asked. Therefore you had to go to reception to get basic things like soap or toilet paper. Even though the email booking said payment at the end of the stay the first thing they did was hassle us for money and continued to do so every time they saw us - until I just gave in after a couple of days and gave it them early for an easy life. The main sellings points are that: (1) it is cheap (2) 5-10 minutes walk from all of the things you would want to see in that part of town like: Haga Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi, The waterfront etc (3) it is near by shops, food places, supermarket etc

Hotel Emek is really very ideally located to visit the Aya Sofia, the Blue Mosque and the Topkapi Palace. These places are all within 5 minutes walking distance. The hotel is located in a quiet side street. The rooms are small and not all of them have private showers (at least not all the singel rooms, I haven't seen the other rooms). Unfortunately there's an old elevator that rumbles through the building and can be heared in almost every room. Hotel Emek is definitely a budget option, don't expect any luxuries but if you stay for only a couple of days and want to see the major attractions in Istanbul the location of the hotel is perfect.
