Very well located, good staff, typical breakfast (a great change in comparison to standardized hotels) but rooms are noisy - I had the feeling my neighbours had their showers in my own room. Beware AMEX holders, I couldn't pay with mine...

The location of the hotel is superb, the staff very friendly, the roof-garden wonderful, the breakfast abundant and quite good (with a Plus for excellent home-made cakes) Negative points: the room is extremely narrow! The bed is small but quite comfortable. The problem is that the sheets and the cover are exactly the same size of the bed: arguing with the partner is guaranteed...

I stayed at the Alzer hotel for one day/night on a flying visit to Istanbul (en route to Nepal), and loved it. It is a small friendly hotel in an old building, right next to the Blue Mosque. The location couldn't be more central - and as well as the Mosque - you're also within 5 minutes walk of the Roman Cistern. Just a little further there's a great park, with cafes at the far end each with great views over the Bospherous. The staff in the hotel were friendly - allowing me to use their office computer for a few minutes to check-in online for my next flight. Breakfast was ok - in a rooftop (but enclosed) restaurant, with good views out over the Blue Mosque. When I visited (early Nov 2010) the area in the front of the hotel was being re-paved - so it was difficult to access - but this should be complete by now. I was concerned about the Istanbul traffic on the route to/from the airport - but I shouldn't have been. We took the coastal highway - and it didn't take any longer than google maps predicted. It might be worse during rush-hour...

Hotel is extremely close to the main tourist attractions - but don't expect a four star hotel: room very small (but clean), all towels with holes (but clean) - the same with the bed linen....

Charming little hotel in a perfect location--when lost I just headed for the obelisk outside the Alzer's front door!--near so many of Istanbul's treasures, and also near the tram. I had the front room one floor above the lobby, decorated for a princess and with wonderful air conditioning, with a view of the garden and the obelisk. The Alzer is my first choice for my next trip to Istanbul. Don't miss its rooftop dining!

Very well located, in the Hippodrome square, near the Agia Sofia, Blue Mosque and Topkapi. The rooms are quite small actually, but clean. The hotel itself it's really narrow (an otoman-style building with just one room in the front) and tiny (5 rooms on the floor - 20 rooms in total); no balcony. Overall it's ok, I will return to this property if I ever go to Istanbul - a crowded huge bazar with good food and lot of wise guys who are trying to sell you junkies ten time the real price.

Excellent boutique style hotel in a fantastic location. View from the top floor breakfast area worth the price alone. Staff spoke good English and were accomadating in every way. I didn't stay in the room much, but when I was there it was comfortable and

Hotel Alzer was a mixed experience. What the hotel lacks in room quality it for sure makes up in location. Situated right across from the Sultanahmet mosque and the Hippodrome, almost all sights are within a five minute walk. The area also has a lot of restaurants with excellent quality Turkish food and there are also numerous bars. Their staff is very knowledgeable and courteous. I was even warned the first day not to talk to strangers on the street, which by the way saved me from a lot of monetary loss. The rooms are ok, nothing to brag about, but not bad either. At night though it tends to get very noisy and I had trouble sleeping even with the windows closed. It’s difficult to fault the hotel for this since the whole area is full of late night revelers, stray dogs and shrieking sea gulls. Perhaps the best experience came with talking to Engin, a waiter at night time, who was very knowledgeable and fun to talk to over Turkish tea. Overall I would rate this hotel as an excellent choice based on location, staff and the overall Istanbul experience.

The hotel is perfectly situated as a starting point to visit all the most important points of interest in Istanbul. The service was fine and the atmosphere of this cosy hotel was excellent. Winding up, the hotel is worth to be recommended for future trips to/ through Istanbul.

Summing up, apart from some misunderstandings concerning the credit card, the hotel is worth to be recommended for future trips to/ through Isnanbul.

This is a small well-appointed and professionally operated hotel in an ideal location for travelers holding a strong interest in the city's history. We were especially impressed with the cleanliness of our room and the extent of the top floor breakfast room views. We believe that we were fortunate to have a front of house room overlooking the Hippodrome....it was excellent.

The location of Hotel Alzer is excellent. It's literally across from the Blue Mosque, and walking distance to Aya Sofia and Top Kapi Palace. It's also walking distance to 2 tram stops. Highly recommended for tourists. Staff is friendly and speaks excellent English. Only issue I had was the size of the rooms as they were truly small. We had no space to store our baggage and had to jump over the bag on the floor for the whole of our stay.

This was our first trip to Istanbul. The hotel couldn't have been in a better location for seeing the major historic attractions. Across the street from the Blue Mosque - on the Hippodrome site. A few blocks from Hagia Sofia, the Cistern, several Baths, many resturants, shopping, and the Bazaars.

We had a "hippodrom"-room, facing to the antik hippodrom. Blue mosque is just a few yards away. We stayed during Ramadan. So we had early wake-up calls by the muezzin all over the night. And just in front of the hotel, there happened the Iftar meal (the meal to break the Fast) as a large festival for thousands of people far later than midnight.

A lovely hotel in the centre of Sultahnnamhet, where one wants to be. Friendly and helpful staff but we found the room very noisy (window opening onto the back street, I guess it is to be expected) and our bathroom vent opened into the next door rooms bathroom so we could hear exactly what they were saying and I am sure they could hear us too!Brilliant location though and excellent communication from the hotel once the booking was made. Will not hesitate to recommend friends to stay here.

Overall, this is a wonderful hotel...helpful and friendly (mostly) staff, plentiful breakfast buffet and superb location to explore historic Istanbul. We plan to return and have already given hotel information to friends that are planning to visit Istanbul in the future. The downside is the proximity of the mosques and volumn of prayer call. We live in the Middle East and are used to this...but if you are not it can be quite loud very early in the morning!
