The staff were extremely friendly and competent. Very welcoming. Car parking a bit tight and limited. We intend to return as this was first visit to Istanbul. Hotel is very well placed to walk to Blue Mosque and lots of other important tourists destinations.

The staff was excellent. They were very friendly, and always readily available to offer help and advice. The room was well maintained and spacious. We enjoyed the breakfast, especially the omelets. The hotel is in a good location for exploring many of the top sights in Sultanahmet District. However, it is a bit of a hike to reach other highlights of the city on foot, e.g. Süleymaniye Mosque and the ferries to the New District and Asia. For getting to those it was better to take public transportation.

Small but excellent, with regards to location, services, cleansiness, welcome and rooms. Good breakfast and the small restaurant just accross the road the CESME is very good value for money. Very pleasant staff...Ekrem and his guys always ready to help with advice, directions and suggestions. They made my holiday wonderful. Thanks Ekrem....

Great location in the old town centre! Basileus is situated within a few (uphill) walking minutes of the major sights, such as the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Basilica Cisterna. Great staff, service and value for money. The only downside was the bed's mattress, hard as a rock. Made our stay a bit less comfortable than expected.

Very welcoming staff. location ideal if you want to visit the famous touristical places. A bit out of reach if you are interested in galeries, museum modern art etc in Beyoglu, although fine with tram-transport. The old town has the highest density of mosques, and that's what you will remember from the early mornings! Lovely hotel (good breakfast!), very interesting city, warm people.

Location was excellant. Close all shops, hisatorical places of interest and great places to eat. You are right in the middle of the old town. The hotel staff were fantastic, helpful and friendly. Nothing was to difficult for them. Our room was excellant. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Tea prep facilies were appreciated as well as small fridge. The bathroom well fitted out and has all the mod cons. Breakfast offering was very good especially the omletts. Overall great value for money, great staff and central location. Shuttle to and from istanbul airport was arranged and was perfect. Takes the stress out of travelling is such a large city. Fantastic service, obviously this hotel and management staff really values service to its customers and it delivers in spades. Thankyou for a wonderful time.

The outstanding features of Basileus Hotel are its great, client oriented staff, its excellent value, its location near the Blue Mosque and other wonderful sites and its delicious breakfast offerings. We stayed there 2 nights at the end of a very active tour of Turkey and were very happy with the room and service. People of any age who enjoy a small hotel with character and good service will find this a nice place to stay.

Very welcoming, spotlessly clean and ideally located for the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. Just a little tricky to find if you are making your own way. Would certainly use again - although with all the reviews like this - suggest you book early!

The Basileus hotel is very well situated; a short walk to the main sights and shopping. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance. The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel as a good choice in this price range. Comments for elder and disabled people. No elevator in the hotel. To get to the sights in Sultanahmet you should climb in the hill.

This hotel is fine; nothing outstanding about it. Visitors should be aware that you must walk up some steep streets to get to the tram or Grand Bazaar. Not a problem for us, but could be for some.

Had a fabulous time in Istanbul and a great stay at the Basileus with my family (2 seniors, 4 adults/parents, 1 22 year old, 2 teens). The staff was the most helpful and accommodating I've ever come across. The location of the hotel was excellent as we walked everywhere. Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Hippodrome, Spice Market, Grand Bazaar were in walking distance and got us some good exercise in the process. Loved the neighborhood and shops and restaurants and sites nearby. Again the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Would definately recommend and would stay here again. Great value for the price and class of hotel.

A comfortable hotel with unsurpassed, personal service and a practical location. The taxi driver had a hard time finding it (however close it is to the central sights in Sultanahmeth), and the streets around the hotel seemed the perfect location for a James Bond car chase, but once inside, peace of mind was well restored. A welcome (and, good-bye, for that matter) rarely seen outside family gatherings was well in tune with the attentiveness shown for every request, be it an extra glass or a place to go for good baklava. Good breakfast (the cook offered a personalized omelet and Turkish coffee every morning), clean, well-kept rooms. We would hardly consider anywhere else if we return to Istanbul.

We stayed eight nights and found the staff very helpful and friendly staff. Had good suggestions for restaurants. It is within walking distance to sights, shopping and tram. Our window looked out on a street that was being used for a detour because of the construction around Sultanahmet (this should be completed soon May/June 2011), but the room was very quiet and we had good sleeps. Good restaurant across the street. Two small supermarkets are to the right of the hotel about 10 min along Kadirga Limani Cd, just past the park. The one near the park is non-alcoholic but just further down is the next one that sells beer for 3.05 TL a can and a six pack for less. There is also a good place between the two to buy pastries and deserts. An easier and more interesting walk to the Blue Mosque, etc is to walk along Küçük Ayasofya Caddesi and then Kabasakal Caddesi through the delightful Arasta Bazaar and then left on Dalbasti Sokak. Then a right turn takes you to the square in between the park and Aya Sophia.

My husband and I highly recommend Basileus Hotel. Yosif was very informed and offered excellent suggestions. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is an excellent and economical restaurant across the street. Our stay in Istanbul was very special - the staff at the hotel contributed a great deal to our trip. Even before we left, Yosif extended his greetings to us. We arrived as tourists and left as friends. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

My wife and I stayed for 9 nights on our first ever trip to Turkey. The welcome was warm, the buffet breakfast extensive and the management of the rooms excellent. There is wi-fi coverage throughout and the use of a computer in the lobby. I was using my lap top each day to research tomorrow's activity and also to keep in touch with home. The staff were friendly and gave us good tourist advice and also learned as much as they could from us so that they had up to date info for future people. The hotel is situated on a corner of two narrow streets and the local cars sometimes get gridlocked at which point horns and shouting are the order of the day, but the double glazed window took care of that if it was a problem. Mostly the room was as quiet as any city back street. Also the hotel is within earshot of three mosques so the muezzin's call to prayer was a regular feature of the soundscape. This might be a problem to some, especially at dawn, but for us it was a bonus and really reminded us where we were. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant but the one opposite is cheap, cheerful, comfortable and welcoming as are several others within a few hundred yards. There is a corner shop for crisps/chips, water, chocs, etc., a local patisserie and a local hamam or Turkish Bath within walking distance. Just yards away there is a local food street market on Wednesdays and sampling the cheese is a must. The Blue Mosque and the Aya Sofya Basilica are ten minutes walk (past the Museum of Turkish Culture), the T1 tram line is in that direction too, putting you easily at the Byzantine city walls in one direction and the Galata Bridge in the other, with its scores of ferries to the Asian side. It is very hilly in this part of town (Sultanahmet) so beware if you have reduced mobility for any reason. Overall a comfortable and convenient base for sightseeing in Istanbul, particularly if you like the cultural sort of experience.

This hotel can be the start of any amazing trip to Istanbul for many reasons. The atmosphere is welcoming, staff helpful and hospitable, rooms clean and cosy, location central. So that is why a day starting from Basilius wouldn't be like a normal day. Thanks for keeping the standards high with the prices so reasonable.
