If your first item on the selection criteria list for a hotel is location then Apex is definitely a good choice. 7 min walk to Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia; tram stop to take you across Galata Bridge just 10 min walk and superb restaurants just behind the corner - this is what you need for a city break in Istanbul. What drags the rating down is the quality of our bed (extremely uncomfortable, heavily overused mattress!) and mould in the shower (though what’s important to note the room and facilities were cleaned daily with fresh towels provided). Also if you are allergic to dust this is not a place for you. Aircon moody at times but since our visit was in October it didn't matter that much. Dated décor and wobbly chair. Our room had a street facing balcony but do not expect much – two people can stand, that’s how spacious it is. The back and basement rooms are really dark and small. The street is quiet with very little traffic. You will hear the morning prayers but that’s just part of the city charm and character.

We are a couple travelling to Istanbul for 2 nights and we would strongly recommend Apex Hotel for any visit of this wonderful city. Booked in advance it was the best value for money hotel and the position is walking distance from every need of travel inside the old part of the city.

Location is the only thing going for this place. Rooms are all bed. Rooms have A/C as advertised but they won't give you the remote to use it. Showers don't drain and head must be hand held. Owner obviously puts no money into this place. At least no bed bugs.

The location itself is worth the money - a five minute walk from all three main attractions of the Blue Mosque, Hagnia Sofia and the Palace.

the walls were thin, that was a bit negative but the rest war great. the location is the best i can imagine for sightseing in istanbul. The personel was great - very polite, friendly, they did their best regarding insider tips. It was nice that i could leave my baggage in safety at the hotel when i had already checked out on my last day. The price is perhaps a bit high for the small room and the thin walls (really already no privacy) but for me - travelling alone - it was okay. The location is the price worth it.

The staff at this hotel are excellent - they could not be more charming, friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is very well located, only a few mintes walk from the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia and Topkapi, and has any number of restaurants and cafes nearby. The rooms are very comfortable and the hotel only has two floors, so lugging of baggage is minimal (and the staff will probably do it for you anyway). Breakfast is on the roof terrace, come rain or shine - and come rain it must be said it is a touch bleak. But when the weather is good, which is more often than not, it has quite a pleasant outlook. I stayed here out of season and, at the rates they were charging at that time, it was very good value. I would certainly recommend this hotel with only one cautionary comment - whilst the area is very quiet, sound proofing is not this hotel's greatest asset. Conversations in the room adjoining mine came though loud and (relatively) clear. It was no great inconvenience, so don't let it put you off - but you may want to pack a pair of ear plugs just in case.

This was our first time in Istanbul and we had a wonderful holiday. This was in part due to staying at the Apex Hotel which was very friendly, clean and comfortable with a Turkish buffet breakfast on the roof top terrace to start each day. The location of the Apex was great - near all the sights in the old city but down a cobbled backstreet which meant is was very quiet. Thank you Apex.

Except the absence of a baby bed, the stay was very pleasant especially due to the very kind welcome of staff. Rooms are a little small and old but of an absolute cleanliness. Excellent location.

The manager couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. On our last day, one of the children came down with a stomach bug and he let us stay in the room until it was time to get our flight. The rooms were charming, and the hotel was surprisingly quiet. Could do with more shade on the sun terrace - it was like being in a greenhouse - and the breakfast wasn't great, but for such a bargain price it would be churlish to complain.

I think the hotel is the best choice for a short trip to Istanbul - quiet and central location, reasonable balance between price and quality. The condition of rooms and facilities is not the perfect ones (but clean).. and how you will feel the real East the other way? So if you need the perfect service of the european level, do not choose this hotel.

THE FIRST NIGHT THEY GAVE US A VERY LITTLE ROOM, BUT HTE SECOND WE GOT A TRIPLE ROOM. THE MINI BAR WASN'T WORKING BUT THEY SUDDENLY PROVIDED. STAFF IS INCREDIBLE: FRIENDLY, COMPETENT, GREAT FEELING. BREAKFAST IS ENOUGH GOOD FOR A THREE STARS HOTEL. THEY GAVE US A PICK UP SERVICE FROM AND TO ATATURK AIRPORT. A WONDERFUL LOCATION IN SULTANHAMET.

The staff is wonderfully friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient to all major sites in the Sultanahment area. We would certainly stay here again. There is, however, no elevator (lift), so stay here only if you don't mind climbing a few stairs.

Hotel small, appropriate value/price ratio. Breakfast offer meat/chesse/vegetables/jams/tea/coffee, appropriate to the price range. Towels changed if left on the batroom floor. Hair dryer, minifridge, hot water kettle in the room. Room quite, noise coming from the mosque nearby. Lots of bars and nice restaurants next door. Small bazaar a few steps away. Tram 5 min walk. Excellent position. Kind staff. Free wi-fi. Computer in the lobby. Recommendable.

Services provided by staff are superb: 1.Staff let me use the reception desk computer 'cos it has a printer to print off our online check-in boarding passes. 2. Staff prepared a small breakfast for us when we needed to leave the hotel at 3:30 am to catch the plane. They really went out the way to help us. 3. A staff called Lokman is especially helpful telling me all the interesting places to visit and let me take the postcards free of charge. He is a charming man. Even though the room of our 1st night was really small and there was water leaking from the sink, the services granted to us made up for those things.

Apex is an Awesome experience for us (me & my wife). We got more than we expected after reading reviews about hotel from the hotel and its staff. I would specially like to mention about the kind of guidance Emrah(receptionist)has provided us in exploring Istanbul and its lesser known places. He has answers to all our queries during our stay in Hotel, and more importantly the answers were perfect. Thank you Emrah & entire Apex Hotel staff for all your support during our memorable stay in Istanbul.

this is with out a doubt a hotel with a heart and soul. I have never received service anywhere in the world as I did at this hotel. the owner Ibrahim Billik is one of the kindest people I have ever met. When i arrived at the hotel I was a mess, the flight I had from Casablanca was a nightmare and then they lost my bag. Ibrahim called AMEX for me and then sent one of his staff to take me shopping for some replacement items. Then when my bag did arrived it was badly damaged and I was leaving the next morning for my next leg of my trip, he actually lent me one of his suitcases until I returned to Istanbul. I arrived back in Istanbul today and again took me for a new suitcase after asking why I needed one that I could have his. This evening he was breaking fast because of Ramadan with some friends and he invited me to join them. He did some other amazing things for me to make my stay pleasant and to make sure I was happy and left Turkey with a good impression of the country and its people. Service was definately a 10+++++
