Hotel Hirschen - Matten, Interlaken

Excellent location! -- It is situated in Interlaken after all. The room was exceptionally clean. The service was really good especially given the meager staff that runs the place. Takes time for the room to get heated -- traditional grill heating, so if you are expecting luxurious warm rooms in winter, you may be disappointed (arrive early to get the water heater going :-) ). Breakfast was very good -- perhaps the only hiccup during our stay (they ran out of / did not replenish breakfast food with one whole hour to go on a Saturday!). Luckily, we had almost finished our breakfast, but felt really sorry for the poor souls that arrived midway through our breakfast). This glaring error was rectified on Sunday morning. The restaurant in the hotel serves excellent meals!!! Great dinner served on 2 days (dinners not included in price :-) ). Wish we had not eaten prior to our arrival the first night of our stay. Overall a great experience. Would heartily recommend the place to anyone staying in Interlaken.

The service is very good ,and the room is clean,we have a nice time in the hotel.

I will stay here again near the bus station to wilderswil :)

Charming building from the outside, rather basic rooms/facilities, looked as though they have not been updated since the renovation in the 1970's(?) as tourists will book hotel in any case. Breakfast was disappointing: bread seemed stale and shop bought (in the midst of bakeries), worst birchermuesli I've ever tasted in my life...

Great holiday again at Hirschen, weather was great. Rooms fine for our purposes, occasional noise in the evening but not excessive. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great buffet breakfast to build us up for the day.

We didn't like the hotel.

The restaurant has a big menu, however the food was pretty terrible and for what we got it was very expensive. I think the cook should specialise in what she v=knows how to cook. Better to eat at the Youth Hostel 100 meters up the road.

Television didn't work but the food was great and the advice on tours was very helpful. Some drunks across the street were loud on the second night but little could be done about that. Very picturesque hotel.

A lovely and very old guesthouse on the outskirts of Interlaken. Not the place for those with any difficulty walking as our room was up three narrow flights of stairs - no elevator. The room and bath were very small, although the hotel did discount our price because of the small room. Breakfast buffet was very good and the on site restaurant was excellent. A few other restaurants were in the neighborhood, and main shopping and restuarant area of Interlaken is about a 20 minute walk. The hotel is a good location for driving into Berner Oberland.

We had booked for 5 days but left after 2 days. Reasons : the reserved "quiet room" was not quiet : located at a road crossing. Also on 1st night, + we were woken up at 3am by a bunch of noisy passers by, coming out of a nearby bar. Impossible to change room, hotel was full. receptionist was ok and didn't make difficulty about the cancellation. It appeared that hotels in the mountains had lots of vacancies and offered better deals than in interlaken

We had a very nice, but too short, stay in Interlaken. The hotel staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful as we made plans for spending our one full day there. The room was probably the largest we had during our stay in budget hotels throughout Europe -- and very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great and included a nice variety of fresh breads, cheeses, cereals, and boiled eggs. We arrived too late to catch a bus from the train station our first night and had a pretty long walk with our luggage, but the hotel provided us a free bus pass for the rest of our stay and made returning to the train station much easier when it was time to leave. The whole area is incredibly beautiful. We will hope to return to Interlaken and would definitely stay again at Hotel Hirschen.

The staff here are lovely and the breakfasts were wonderful - lovely bread.

Hirschen was a charming property and the hostess/staff were terrific. Very short walk across the park from Matten (where hotel is) to Interlaken--and if you ask for a Visitor Card you can get one and ride buses for free to Interlaken and train stations (though buses stop running back to Matten early-ish so make sure to check time of last bus back to Hirschen)--so location was fine! Things are very expensive in this area so the price of this hotel was high for what it was (what we're used to as American travelers for this price of a hotel), but all are expensive in the area so it wasn't too much out of the norm. Very much appreciated the EXCELLENT breakfast and the gorgeous view. NOTE: the walls and floors are VERY thin so it is VERY noisy! We stayed in Room 6, too--which was over the breakfast room, so this room was extra noisy. Our only real "complaint."

The innkeepers were attentive, breakfast offered a variety of breads, meats, yogurt, fruit, drinks, fresh hard boiled eggs and more. Would definitely stay there again.

Great hotel for our family holiday, met all expectations of what a swiss hotel should look like. Lots of character but with well equipped and comfortable bedrooms. Good continental breakfast. Staff pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. Convenient for access to town and local rail links to mountain areas like Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen. Able to park on site.

Very cozy and decent Swiss chalet. Great food at the restaurant. Breakfast was great, staff friendly and packed breakfast for our early start in the morning. Our standard family room with two bed rooms, they were comfortable. The ceiling was a bit low and it creaked annoying when someone of the above moved through their room.

It is a charming hotel, but the noise of the passerbys kept us up half the night.

We really enjoyed this hotel. It was delightful. It had a great Swiss atmosphere. We enjoyed the breakfast, also.

One of my favorite hotels during our 23 day Europe trip. A charming, quaint hotel within 15 minutes to either train station and just a couple minutes to bus stop. The owners were very friendly and helpful.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, they even took us to the train station because we missed an early train to the snowfields. A nice breakfast and good location.

Good clean hotel, with a lot of character. Staff friendly & breakfast of good standard. Reasonably handy to transport and township, which only about 10 minutes walk.

The hotel gives a true reflection of a swiss home.The location is excellent with good walking routes. My wife and I truly enjoyed staying at the Hirschen and would recommend fully to anyone who wants a good taste of Swiss small town environment. Breakfast is good and the layout of the house is very interesting. We will definitely go back to stay at Hirschen if we visit Switzerland again. Excellent choice we made.
