Lato Boutique Hotel - Heraklion

Photos on the site when I booked the hotel gave me the impression that the hotel had a swimming pool but it does not. Would have stayed elsewhere if I had known this. Rooms were in need of renovation and I would not consider them to be approprate for a "boutique" hotel. Housekeeping kept leaving utility doors open so every time we walked into the hall our view was of a utility closet. Location is convenient for walking and the port. Staff was very friendly and helpful though sometimes way too busy.

We were lucky to have such a great place to begin our honeymoon! Crete was the first of 3 stops (Crete, Santorini, and Athens) and was, by far, the best hotel. From the customer service (honeymoon desserts sent to our room, upgrade to an executive suite with a huge terrace overlooking the harbor...unbelievable view!, free internet access and breakfasts, and help with any questions about the area) to an unbelievable room (2 bathrooms, 2 rooms, a queen size bed, and a huge terrace; spacious and clean; and quiet). We stayed for 3 nights and would definitely stay again. Tip: If you stay in Iraklio, travel to Chania for a day. Another note: I own a personal training business in Chicago and am extremely critical of customer service. Throughout our honeymoon, we came across many rude people (mostly in the shops and the restaurants....but not all). With this being said, we were thankful for the great service of the Lato.

Our first visit, we were upgraded to a junior suite with a large balcony overlooking the harbor and it was wonderful. Great service, great breakfast, wonderful staff. On our second visit, a week later, we stayed in a standard triple and it was a little crowded. My daughter took advantage of the in-house spa and had a massage which she loved after a long day of travel.

Our room was strange : not so big with a tiny shower room (which could have been cleaner) but a very large terrace. The bed was a disaster (the kind where you spend the night trying to stay on it). The hotel is very well located, quiet, and the service excellent. Very good breakfast.

Room was very very small - hardly correct to describe as double room

The staff was really helpful. We had confirmed a reservation for a new year's special dinner but due to some confusion our reservation had been cancelled. The personnel managed to find us a nice table and we ended up at a quiet end of the restaurant, the two of us sitting alone at a table set up for six. We appreciated this gesture. All over our stay, we found the personnel to be very efficient. At Lato, it is service with a smile. We would definitely return should we go back to Creta and recommend this hotel with a view on the harbour and the fortress.

Clean hotel, beautiful location and views. Staff were helpful (but often busy).

We had a nice stay. Staff at reception desk was very helpful. The breakfast buffet was good and fresh. Finding the way to get into the hotel's street was very complicated.

We were anticipating wonderful rooms with great views. The views were indeed wonderful, but the rooms needed some major housekeeping and revitilization. I had to ask to have the filter changed on the air conditioning unit because the mold odor was overpowering. The lower mattress had stains visible and the carpet was charcoal so we could not determine when or if it had been cleaned. This hotel has a great location and an outstanding restaurant, but without upkeep, the price of the rooms is not worth it.

This hotel is a very good value. It is well located, with great views of the harbor, and well run. The only negatives are pretty tight parking space (true for all Heraklion hotels, I think), and a somewhat unfriendly restaurant.
