Arolithos is a charming place to stay if you want to be near Iraklio. It is a nice little village in the moutains, the view is beautiful, nice and quiet swimming pool. The main problem we encoutered was with the restaurant : there was virtually nothing available from the menu. So unless you drive a fair amount of miles to find some other place to eat, you end up having the same dishes over and over again.

The hotel is good but he has some problems. The beds are really old an uncomfortable. The bathroom is really old and small. The quality of the service and the public areas are very good.

O Hotel é pitoresco. O baheiro poderia ser um pouco melhor. Vale a pena a experiencia.

The Hotel is nice, with spacious rooms, but improvements are necessary in the bathroom, especially showers (actually there were only hand douches). There are many stairs, that may be a problem for elder people or a person with disabilities. The restaurant is very good, and the place hosts parties in the typical greek tradition. Our room was not close to the restaurant, so the noise was not a problem, but if the room is near the restaurant, people looking for quietness could have problems. A car is required for reaching interesting places in Crete. ONe thing is also important: Internet is not available as mentioned by Venere. They told that is possible to use the manager computer to check e-mails, but there is no wireless internet or computer available full-time for guests.

Hotel Arolithos is a good choice for the price, the rooms are big and the restaurant serves delicious food at reasonable prices. The rooms were a bit basic, the shower wasn't the best and we had real trouble with our door key but overall I would recommend it to people, especially as the hotel is a rustic village where you can see old crete. word of advise though plan your journey carefully, the bus is only every 2-4 hours and the last one from town leaves at 4:30!

A bit of a tourist trap, what can I say, ... I guess the drive there and the views from up on the hill of the olive groves and country side were pleasant. I imagine it is a better place weddings and meetings than it is for families on vacation.

Want no sleep, Book this hotel! J&J Cape Town, South Africa We booked this hotel via the Internet - based on customer reviews. Quoted as being close (15kms) to airport, we booked to have a good night's rest before our international flight. Well - try and sleep through a Greek Baptism celebration! It is impossible unless you are deaf! This hotel caters for very large Greek functions - this is not mentioned when you book although we were told that an e-mail is sent out informing guests of a function before arrival. I have gone thru all my e-mails for the past month - no e-mail re the function. We asked to change rooms - the new room was slightly quieter but the air-con was not working and the basin poured water straight onto the bathroom floor instead of into a drain! So we returned to our original room and the Greek party sounds. If we had not required any sleep, it could have been fun to watch this very important aspect of Greek life. The hotel is "Budget" - Poorly furnished in basic style, shower head (hand-held!) fell off, no spare toilet roll, not serviced on the day we were there, the breakfast was extremely poor despite being advertised as a "Rich" Buffet. Advertised as a typical Cretan Village, it would be good if they also advertised the noise from the typical "Village Square" We were given a discount of 1 night (luckily we had to leave at 18.00hrs so escaped from the second huge baptism function on the second night.) Receptionist apologised but as these functions appear to be the main business of the hotel, all guests should, in our opinion, be forewarned. The directions provided are also not clear for first-time visitors. All in all, not an experience to be repeated.

The room was clean and spacious, but very noisy from the many things going on at the hotel. It was very far from town, so you should rent a car to get around. The staff was very nice and tried to help, but the running water did not work well in our room. They also did not take credit cards.

Very nice & new concept of having a hotel in a functional village which is so traditional & picturesque, v warm and welcoming staff... overall a nice experience. Only must have is a hired car at your disposal which the hotel can arrange at reasonable price.

The hotel is super,we were warmly welcomed. In fact, the hotel is like a park. But the bus is not frequent. Except that, all is wonderful. If I return to Crete, it is centain that I will stay in this hotel.

Excellent hotel. The relationship between price/quality is high. The location (not much kilometres from Heraklion) it's perfect to visit the city and near Cnosso, but it alloows to stay in a delicious place (a traditional cretan village) where it's possible to have relax and a good cuisine. We hope to come back.

Excellent property for reasonable price. It is a traditional Cretan village with real Cretan atmosphere. Very friendly staff, good buffet breakfast, big rooms. It can be reached by car, most of all. The proporty is located in the mountains, in a beautiful place. In the evening we saw Heraclion's lights from the balcony. Heraclion is only 15 minutes by car on the New Road. Some days there was loud music in the restaurant, but this music doesn't disturb us. Most of the rooms are far form the restaurant. If somebody wants to stay in a lovely place near to Heraclion, Arolithos is a very good choice.

We really liked this place! Not a fancy place but clean and a wonderful mood and breakfast. You really do need a car to come and go but it is worth the trip back and forth. The potter on location was a pleasure to watch at her wheel. We couldn't have been more pleased. David and Judy Geisser

The road map you suggest to get from Heraklion Airport tyo the Hotel is very difficult to follow. It brings downtown, in the traffic. It takes about 30 minutes. The following takes about 15 minutes, no traffic, no town. Simply, highway. I suggest: out of airport, turn left. Take the National Road (Highway free toll) - direction Rethymnos. Get the 3rd Exit (Gazi). Turn left, direction Alissos. Always straight for about 6 km. The Hotel is on the road.

Excellent quiet location 10-15 min drive out of Heraklion.Masses of character. Charming beautiful buildings. Food mediocre quality especially breakfast. Wednesday night is the greek evening and although this is entertaining, coachloads of tourists arrive which affects the tranquillity. Hotel guests have reserved seats and dedicated waiters so ervice is not really affected. Generally an excellent relaxing beginning to touring holiday in Crete.

Further from Heraklion than we thought. As we are non drivers, it was difficult to find things to do in day as really you go for the greek traditional evening festivities-these were great and best value and quality food on our two week venture. Good greek experience.

How to reach Hotel Arolithos
By car
From Heraklion's city centre reach Elefterias square, which is close to the Archaeological Museum, and take Dikeossinis street. Continue straight and then take Kalokerinou avenue all the way down to Porta Hanion. Cross over the bridge and go straight to 62 Martiron avenue. Keep driving and when you reach a junction continue straight (do not follow the way to Carefour). When you reach the village of Gazi, proceed straight towards the village of Anogia. You will see the hotel on your right.
By airplane
The Heraklion N. Kazantzakis international airport lies about 15 km away from the property and is serviced by all major airlines. Bus and taxi services connect the airport to Heraklion city centre, to Servili Tilissou and to the hotel.
Exit the airport and follow the New National Road towards Heraklion-Rethimnon. After the traffic lights, keep driving in the same direction until the second crossroad. When you see the signs to the villages of Gazi and Anogia, turn right following the indications to Anogia. Go straight along the road and you will find the property on your right.
By bus
A frequent bus service, with daily runs to Servili Tilissou, leaves from the Chaniopoorta bus station in Heraklion city centre and stops just outside the hotel.
By boat
There are daily ferry and high-speed ferry services connecting the Athens port of Piraeus to the harbour of Heraklion, located about 12 km away from the hotel. Taxis are easily found at the end of the wharf.
