Hotel PhuDo - Hanoi

We made this hotel our base, leaving our main luggage when we went on trips to Halong Bay and Sa Pa. The staff were very friendly and helpful — even when we arrived back from Sa Pa at about five in the morning and had to rattle the gate to wake them! The staff were very helpful in matters such as arranging a fair-price taxi etc. It is right in the heart of the OId Quarter so one is immersed in "the real Vietnam" immediately on leaving the hotel. It is very convenient for the lake (although usually we got lost through diverting down intriguing side-streets!). The only negative was the electrical system which required poking a pen into the earth to open the other slots to insert a plug, and being older it did not have a socket by the desk so I had to use the laptop on the TV table.

The service provided by the staff was excellent and they let us use the shower and room facilities between trips even when we didn't have a room booked. They were always helpful in organising our onward travel and train tickets. Hotel was in great location.

Fantastic hotel, great value! Perfect location, within 5mins walking distance to all restaurants and bars and 10mins to the lake. Staff were very friendly, helpful and reliable. Would stay again.

Excellent location, great staff. We are very satisfied with Phu Do. The only negative point is the excessive travel arrangements charges and bad experience in their recommendations for accomodations and tours sold by the hotel. Do your homework before booking with them. The manager (Minh) was very good in handling the after-sale frustrations of unsatisfied customers. We would strongly recommend the hotel for its facility but would advise to not use their traveling agency. Hope this helps.

Although the rating of other guests are so good, almost all the rooms didn't have any window, breakfast quality was poor(although you could get nice PHO from the strett or restaurant near by for breakfast!)and the staff kept on pushing me buy tour to Halong Bay everyday! For the money you pay, it may be fine in Hanoi, but I was not particularily impressed. The location is very good. Recommended for upmarket backpackers only.

Our Room did not have a window however that probably meant no traffic noise. It was bigger that other visitors rooms who had paid more in other hotels. The Shower and bath have been recently done up they were not brilliant and water sprayed a bit but not too bad, it was very clean and staff were very helpful. The travel advice was excellent and although we probably paid 10% extra for our trip to Halong Bay they did not charge us for the night we had booked to stay in the hotel so that was fair enough. And the Trip to halong Bay was very good and also a high standard. Their city map and general advice was excellent and we were pleased with our choice. Excellent value for money! Also the included breakfast was very good.

I chose the property based on the recommendation by TripAdvisor and stayed there for a night in Nov. The reservation was attended to immediately and they even took care of the transport from the airport to the hotel. It was very clean. We booked a triple room, and were given a family room which was very spacious with 2 large beds at no extra cost. It was value for money. The bathroom however was small with only a sink, toilet and no separate shower area, so the floor gets wet when you shower. The hotel is ideally located near the shopping areas and eating places. Breakfast was alright though there were not many choices. The only snag is there's no elevator and since the room was on the top floor it was quite a climb. The other complain was that the room did not come with fruit basket and coffee and tea making facilities as stated in their confimation e-mail to us. I brought this to the attention of the reception staff and he just acknowledged it without offering any explanation or apology. Other than this,the stay was pleasant.
