Overall a lovely hotel and a very pleasant stay in a beautifull town. The room though small had a very nice large and private patio with a great view overlooking the town and valley. It would have been nice to have a couple of lounge chairs. The breakfast while good could be improved with a better selection of fresh pastry and breads and a small hot offering (eggs and meats). The room tv was very small with few if any foreign (non italian) stations. Also please change our country to Canada instead of USA

This hotel is a great value for the price. Its location is ideal, just down the street from Piazza Grande and Palazzo dei Consoli. It’s a bit tricky to get to by car because of one-way streets, but you can drive right up to the hotel, unload luggage, and get directions to free parking at the funivia. Staff were all very helpful and spoke fluent English. Restaurants Bosone Garden and Taverna del Lupo are owned by the same company as the hotel and are both excellent. Free Wi-Fi available.

This hotel was the most reasonably priced hotel I think I ever stayed in in Italy. I loved the location and the staff. The only thing that was not made clear on the hotel information, was WHERE to park the car and how to proceed from there. The main parking lot in the lower piazza "in Centro" is where you park the car. Hold onto your ticket and you can have it validated at the Information Office adjacent to the lot, when you are ready to depart. It will only cost $8 Euros per day this way instead of much more. Once you park the car, you must lug your suitcases UP the hill to the higher part of the town, BUT there is an elevator halfway up the hill. This takes you to the street the hotel is located on. When you exit the elevator, turn right into the upper piazza and then right again ONTO the main street up there. The hotel is on the right just a short distance. I would not recommend this location to anyone who has trouble walking. It would be very difficult. BUT, I would stay there again. And they own a great restaurant "Taverna del Lupo", which I always go to when I visit Gubbio....wouldn't miss it! Rooms were small but clean and quiet.

Excellent stay, 4 nights, best hotel on our holiday. Very helpful staff, wonderful location, excellent rooms and breakfast. It is difficult to find, at night, when you don't know the town. Parking is 5 minutes away (at the funicular) but at least it's all on the level to push cases. Minor issue with great hotel.

We stayed in a Renaissance style room, which I think is a must to appreciate the true value of the hotel and its location. The hotel is a bit dated, but that is part of its charm. The position of the hotel is excellent. The only adverse comment I would make is that there is no outside space to sit and relax, but the square just up the road is a very good place to have a drink. The best restaurant in Gubbio is the Di Porta Tessenaca, Via Piccardi, 21, just a short walk from the hotel.

The Hotel Bosone in Gubbio is one of the nicest in which I have ever stayed and I always try to find hotels with much character in interesting locations. We booked a standard double room at a very reasonable rate. Although quite new, the decor of the room fitted perfectly with this lovely old place. Breakfast is served in a beautiful room with frescos. The woman at reception, who was a member of the Mencarelli family, was helpful, welcoming and gracious. I told her I felt as if we had been staying in a family home. Gubbio is quite small, but has some interesting restaurants and is well worth a couple of days when you can be in a hotel like the Bosone Palace.

Very welcoming and friendly staff who supported our attempts to speak Italian. We were allocated a large room (disabled facilities) on the ground floor with views over the town and further afield hills, for an extremely reasonable rate but there was some noise in the mornings. Hotel is situated in the old town with parking a short way away and ideal for visiting Gubbio and other nearby hill towns, such as Assisi and Urbino. Breakfast is taken in a frescoed room, lovely coffee and adequate buffet breakfast. We would certainly return and probably request an upstairs room.

The rooms were lovely. We were a group of 4 in our 20s/30s, a couple and two singles, and unfortunately there was quite a discrepancy between the quality of the two rooms. The couples room was beautiful, with gorgeous ceiling fresco and heaps of space. The "kids" room, where the 'singles' slept, was small and stuffy by comparison. This would have been fine for parents and 2 kids, but was unfortunate for 4 adults. The staff were fantastic and bent over backwards to help us with our onward travel arrangements and anything else we needed. The breakfast was great, in a beautiful frescoed room.

Hotel Bosone is a wonderful place to stay. Our room was spacious with 12 foot high cielings. The breakfast room is gorgeous. The garden restaurant is wonderful - we ate there both nights of our stay. Gubbio is a fantastic medieval hill town - I couldn't get enough of the local architecture. However, it should be noted that there are lots of steps and hills so it may present a problem for those that can't walk easily.

We had a wonderful 2-night stay in the Hotel Bosone. The room was very comfortable with beautiful views of the town and valley. The hotel certainly has the feel of the former home of a duke, which is what it is. The staff was extremely helpful, providing us with a very early breakfast before the official opening time of the breakfast room. The only drawback is that while the hotel is rather close to the center of town, it is up a steep hill. We arrived by bus and were saved by the fact that there is an elevator inside one of the buildings -- it took us most of the way up. However, it is runs only during business hours.

This hotel was one of the best i have stayed at in Italy. It is beautiful inthe first place, the rooms are gorgeous, and they had one of the most comfortable hotel beds I ever slept in. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and I felt almost as if i were visitng relatives. The room where they had breakfast had lovely renaissance "grotuesques" frescoes that made eating a pleasure. i would almost say that had Gubbio itself not been so warm and welcming and lovely to visit, we would have spent our entire time at the hotel. We had a lovely view, and just the ambience created here was unforgettable. i will definately stay at the hotel again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Bosone. It's a good combination of old palazzo and modern hotel with lovely old frescoed breakfast room. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant, English was spoken, and our room was very comfortable and quiet, at the back of the hotel, with good bathroom and view over the rooftops of Gubbio to the countryside. Our only criticism is that there were no drawers for clothes and very few hangers! The breakfast was very good with good coffee. The streets in Gubbio are steep, so wherever you stay you need to climb steps or steep streets but hotel in good central position. No visitor parking in centre but free, safe parking a few hundred metres from hotel. Would definitely recommend and hope to return. Gerry and John Barton

We loved this hotel. Upon arrival, the young woman at the desk could not have been nicer. We spoke a little Italian, she spoke a little English and together we had a lovely conversation. There is a suite with a frescoed cieling and the breakfast room has frescoes. Gubbio is a lovely thriving town. Dinner at Taverna Del Lupo was delightful. If you love Italy, it is worth getting off the beaten path to spend a few days here. Don't miss this hotel - the gal at the front desk is charming and makes for a fun stay. My wife and I spent one night at Hotel Bosone in October 2005. Its location is perfect for exploring Gubbio, but getting there by car is quite a challenge. At first, we thought this was impossible because of street repairs, but the tourist information office gave us directions on how to maneuver back and forth up the hill to reach the hotel. Getting back to the public parcheggio proved to be much easier. Our room was quite large by Italian standards, but lacked any chairs, which we had to request, and one of the bedside lights didn't work, which the hotel staff knew but did nothing about. The receptionist was quite helpful and made reservations for us at "Taverna del Lupo" where we had an excellent dinner.

Everything seems to depend on what room you get. Some have frescoes (as does the pretty dining room), while others, like the ones we had, are cramped and uncomfortable. The main problem is that if you are at the back of the hotel, despite the lovely views, it's incredibly noisy, with a deafening rock band playing at a local bar until well after midnight. Also, the walk up to the hotel from the car park is extremely steep, so only the physically fit should book here. The hotel has its own parking lot, but it's also quite far away.

The Bosone is very centrally situated. The parking is a good walk away, but you can drive right to the hotel and leave your luggage. We have a fabulous room, probably the best in the hotel. A large suite with spectacular views. I gave the hotel a low score on noise because there is a restaurant right below oour room and they had a wedding the night we were there, so beware of Saturday night stays. Other than that minor issue, the stay was great and we would definitely do it again.

We loved the Bosone... The front desk staff was extremely helpful, friendly, (patient with my pathetic attempts at italian)and competant. The dining room was beautiful (frescoed ceilings!), but for the "discount" price you get a relatively simple room, not the ones in the web site photos. The hotel in near the centre of the old town but you can park quite close. The problem as with all ancient cities is finding the hotel in because of the one way streets. You need to pretend you are a local and ignore some stop signs. However it is well worth the trouble because the hotel is excellent we had a room in the roof with view accross the valley. The hotel is very well placed to explore the whole town on foot (there is no other way). We have a very plesant stay and we will go back again

A very clean, pleasant hotel located near the very active center of old Gubbio. A challenge to find, the temporary parking on the street in front was helpful before having to park outside the town walls some 5-10 minutes walk (to be expected in such locations). However its location near restaurants and shops in this very steep hillside town made all worthwhile. While the included "breakfast" was rather spartan, the accommodations were very clean and modestly pleasant. Originally located street-side, they were able to move us to a room on the other side overlooking the town which was much quieter and certainly much more picturesque. Some of the staff spoke very good English, and all were pleasant and helpful. Just wish their website gave better directions to hotel: took us almost an hour to find it (by car) due to seeming haphazardness of one-way streets and lack of street identification so common in such medieval towns. But, once found, well worth the visit!!

The hotel is a lovely 700 year old building almost at the summit of the town. We were offered a suite for the price of a room and had a sumptuous room for us and our two young children. The ceiling frescos were a little shabby, but we felt we were staying somewhere special. Unfortunately, however, there was no airconditioning and with the windows open the noise of the twon carried up to the room making for a hot and disturbed night. A stay at any other time of the year would have been a pleasure.

Our room was simply but tastefully decorated and it had a great view of Gubbio. The location of the hotel is spectacular from an historic and scenic perspective. It also is very close to several excellent restaurants. The service was good. The property is intimate which is something that we appreciated. My two recommendations are (1) that better maps and driving directions are supplied in advance and that clear and correct instructions for parking in the municipal lot be given. I was not told about market day on Tuesdays and was towed with a 90 Euro cost.
