Hotel Bastiani - Grosseto

I had booked a single room for 89 Euros, but was given a lovely 2-room suite with fireplace! Bathroom had gold-plated fixtures (but a shower unit only--no tub). Hotel has elevators. Breakfast had some lovely cakes besides pastries, cereals, yogurt, breads, fresh fruit, juice, cheese and cold cuts. Hotel is in old center of Grosseto, 1 block from Duomo. It is within wallking distance of train/bus station. There are lots of good restaurants nearby. Some cater to the hoards of Germans who come here, with German food included on the menus and lots of beer. Grosseto is a good base for visits to Elba, Massa Marittima, Orbetello, Monte Argentario, Tarquinia, archeological sites (Etruscan and Roman), beaches, and Parco Naturale della Maremma.

grosseto itself is not the greatest but it is central to most places. the old town is charming with many good shops and restaurants but deffinately not cheap.the hotel bastiani is an old world hotel with good facilities and excellent staff but you pay for the privilage, having said that if you want a place that is off the beaten track with no tourists iwould reccomend the hotel bastiani.

This hotel is great. The front desk person was polite & helpful. The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. I didn't like having to leave a copy of my driver's license for the garage, however. Also, the internet service is complicated and not very convenient. The hotel surroundings are absolutely beautiful, as it is just one short block from the duomo.

Excellent service and very competent staff. Only stayed one night in Grosseto on our way to Tuscany, but was completely satisfied with everything as plannned - did have a little trouble locating hotel when arriving from Rome Airport in rental auto.

Nice older hotel with upgraded rooms in the old section of Grosseto. Great service, nice breakfast, would definitely recommend.

What a disappointment. This is apparently a 4-star hotel. Having stayed at various hotels during our stay in Italy - this should clearly not be given this star rating. The room was cramped. Not even an iron in the room. Should be stripped of a star in my opinion.

Wonderfull hotel. Great staff and great location for visiting the Maremma and spending nights in the old city. Would absolutely stay here again!!

This hotel is beautiful and we had a very enjoyable stay. There is not much to see in this town but the old relic buildings, in particular the castle, are being rennovated and will be worth stopping to see in a year or so. Bastiani is a bit pricy but location is great and easy to find and very comfortable.

Only complaint was coffee! It didn't taste freshly brewed. Worst cup I had anywhere over the week we spend travelling around Rome/Umbria/Tuscany.
