Hotel Aspen - Grindelwald

For travellers from the UK this hotel was very expensive. Despite the extensive construction works going on, it was not noisey. It was a little further out of the town than expected. We would love to go back and stay there again. We particularly liked the attitude of the owners to our young grandchildren and appreciated the fact that the little ones were served their evening meal first and quickly.

The Aspen Hotel offers a fantastic view of the Bernese Alps and the hotel and rooms were impeccable. My only complaint is that there was no mention that the kitchen is closed on Wednesdays. The hotel is an hour from Grindelwald, walking distance, and I was looking forward to good meals without having to go back into town. We had no car. I would have looked for another hotel, if I had known we could not eat there. I received a small discount off the room price when I complained of this to the cashier (The bus service to Grindelwald was also reduced because this is the off-season), but she was not happy to give it to me.

Very nice hotel, in a wonderful position, albeit far from the center (car needed). Very good restaurant, a bit expensive.

We booked our reservation without actually seeing the guesthouse first. The directions from Grindelwald were Ok but at first we thought we had driven past it until we saw the sign that said we had to carry on for a further kilometre. The Aspen had a lovely view of the Eiger North Face from its front door. The staff were very friendly on arrival, and throughout our stay. The breakfast was ample and there were a number of various items on display. Staff were on hand to assist at all times. We ate an evening meal at Aspen and found the food to be expensive but very well cooked and excellently presented (our daughter really enjoyed the catfish). Again, the service was very friendly and we were made to feel most comfortable. The bedrooms were very comfortable, clean and spacious. Our only complaint was that the double room was in fact two single beds put together and, being British, we would have liked to have had more than one pillow each. The Aspen also had a computer available with free internet access so our daughter could log on to the BBC Children's website which kept her entertained. Furthermore, it also had a playroom near the main dining room so she could play while her evening meal was being cooked so as not to get bored. Overall, our stay here was most enjoyable and we would recommend the Aspen Guesthouse to our friends
