Perhaps the most helpful and obliging hotel staff we've ever met, very friendly, a real family run establishment and they all spoke English extremely well. Hotel a bit old fashioned, but we prefer that to the glitzy ones. Would be nice to have fans in the rooms during the summer months, and don't ask for a room overlooking the lake if you're not used to a lot of traffic outside your window during the night. The view is fantastic and you're just across the road from the lake's edge. Food in the restaurant was excellent though the young waiter was hopeless. Would stay there again.

This hotel is in a great location, looking directly across the lake to Bellagio. So convenient to everything and the staff are more than helpful and speak fluent English. I would stay here again in a heartbeat - a most beautiful piece of Italy. Easy walking to interesting places to see and very close to the ferry wharf. Be sure to try the restaurant attached - food is excellent.

Public areas a bit faded, but room modernized and very comfortable. A very useful find in an expensive area for an independent traveler.

Our host Andrea was a most friendly and colorful person. He made us feel like we were old friends staying at his home. We greatly enjoyed just talking to him and getting recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants. The restaurant adjacent to the hotel (operated by others) was a good convenient place to enjoy great Italian food. Hotel was directly across the main road along the West side of Lake Como, directly across the lake from Belaggio. The ferry to Belaggio and other towns on the lake was literally only 1 block down the street. Our only complaint was the loud traffic noise even late into the night. This is the major North-South route along Lake Como, so there is alot of truck and motorcycle traffic. Since the hotel does not have A/C, you have to leave windows open at night; thus the noise. Take ear plugs to sleep. Of course, we were on the second floor, corner room, so we had two sets of windows that let in the traffic noise. Ask for a room on a higher floor to try to get farther from the street noise.

I teach Italian in the states, travel in Italy extensively and have stayed in many 3 Star hotels...I really liked this place! The location is excellent, right across the lake from Bellagio and quite close to the tragetto/ferry. The woman who runs this hotel is a doll! Both very nice and very helpful. Regarding the room, I was surprised at how very modern and pretty the bathroom was, I had plenty of space. The hotel was clean and pleasant. I would certainly recommend this hotel!

Hotel Riviera was a cheap place to stay and it served it's purpose. The manager was very nice letting us in quite late and showed us a variety of rooms. The water pipes made some very strange noises whist showering! Not a bad find for the price.

Mixed feelings about our stay. The owner was very helpful on our arrival. His sister had to finish her cigarette before we got coffee with our indifferent breakfast the next morning. Our room was lovely and clean but the stairs were dark and very shabby. Location perfect, noisy on the street but we expected that.

very friendly and welcoming family and staff - good location with lovely views . Sizeable breakfast with plenty of choice . Family run , so rare to find these nowadays. Any queries , forward them to the son Andrea , what he doesn't know is not worth knowing. No marble columns - what you do get is excellent value for money.

The people of this lovely family hotel are very friendly and helpfull Besides a warm welcome we were pleased with some good tips about the surroundings and festivities that took place at that time We had a splendid room with a fantastic view over the lake. It is a very nice place to settle down and relax for a few days.

We found the hotel very good value for the rate charged. The management/owners were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very extensive for that country, included cold meat & cheese, as well as choice of cereal and wonderful warm croissants. Beds were comfortable and views of Lake Como from the balcony were superb. The location was very convenient to the lake boats. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely stay there again if in the area.

We arrived at the hotel for a one night stay. The owners were very nice when we arrived. Since we arrived late in the day, they suggested a walk to the next little town for drinks and dinner. The info was very good. We had a great time. When we arrived back at the hotel, they provided more local info for next morning. The owners were great. I would love to go back one summer and stay for a week or more. The hotel has great character and the view was world class.

Rooms and hotel clean but very tired and worn. Great setting for ferry to Belliago. Needs updating urgently. Has potential to be very nice. Breakfast limited but restaurant very busy in the evening so it must have a good local reputation. Ok for an overnight stop over but nothing more.

We loved the staff and the restaurant, very good and very reasonable. The view is beautiful, too. Unfortunately, the hotel rooms overlook a very busy and loud street, and the beds were VERY uncomfortable. The road is very narrow, and with our large car the driving to and fro was somewhat stressful/difficult.

The hosts were gracious and helpful. The view from the rooms was outstanding. The the hotel restaurant food was very good and it was frequented by local residents, always a good sign. It is located conveniently to ferry service and with on-site parking. The only down side is the traffic on the street right in front of the property. Will go back.

Nice family run hotel. We got to know all of them during our short 2-day stay. They were friendly, funny and service oriented. There is a restaurant in the hotel- reasonable prices and great pizza! Ask for one of the rooms with a balcony overlooking the lake, like number 7, buy a bottle of wine, some cheese and bread and have a late afternoon snack on the balcony after a day of sightseeing before betting ready for dinner. Some traffic noise, but you kind of got used to it... The ferry to Bellagio and the other towns was less than 100 yards from the hotel, so great location.

Driving from Laguna alongside the Lakes was very frightening because we weren't use to driving on the right side of the road and the narrow, twisting streets. the views were magnificent. Ownere very friendly, excellent English. We ate at the hotel restaurant. According to my children they had the best icecream in Italy! Close to tourist ferry to cruise along the Lake and look at other towns at reasonable cost.

The room was very loud as expected, but that didn't really bother us. Unfortunately we didn't have a balcony and the room was quite small. The views are stunning. The food in the hotel restaurant was excellent and not expensive. The best pizza I ever had! The surroundings of the hotel are beautiful, you can take the ferry over to Bellagio and Villa Carlotta is only a short walk away.

We chose to stay in this hotel due to its location: It is less than 100 meters from the ferry port for trips to Bellagio and Varenna. This allowed us to park our car in the hotels's parking lot (free) and forget about driving to these locations, saving us a lot of time and nerves - try driving to Bellagio, and you'll understand what this means :). The hotel directly faces the lake and most rooms have a magnificent view of Bellagio. It is also about 15 minutes walk to Villa Carlotta, and this is also nice, if you don't mind walking a bit. It is less than 5 minutes drive to Menaggio, where you have a nice selection of restaurants. Try the Lugano Pizzeria on Via Como. It is somewhat far from the waterfront, and does not have any view, but the pizzas are excellent. The owner Adriano was very kind and provided us with lots of information about the area. The breakfast was nice, but nothing to write home about. The hotel has a nice restaurant. We did not eat there, but the dishes looked and smelled good. The bad news about this hotel is the terrible street noise due to the heavy traffic on the road in front of the hotel, especially trucks early in the morning, but this is common to all the hotels in the area. (This can be an advantage, since you may have the chance to have a nice view of Bellagio at dawn, if a truck wakes you up at 5 am, as it happened to me.) The walls are apparently very thin, as we could hear everything our neighbors said or did.

Hotel was very comfortable and friendly. Our rooms overlooked the lake, but also the main road around Lake Como, so could be a bit noisy at night. But all in all was a very enjoyable holiday.

WE had a room on the front with a balcony over looking the lake with a beautiful view Bellagio. We travelled with another couple who had a similar room next to ours. The traffic noise is a little bit much but was not as bad as someone else had described. It wouldn't hurt to have ear plugs just in case.

In all of my years of traveling around Europe, this will be my number one remembered experience. When traveling Europe, I have discovered that you will not meet other travelers or the local people while staying in a large four or five star hotel. The environment is usually cold and the guest somewhat to themselves. However, you do in a Bed & Breakfast or Pension! The family that runs the quaint Hotel Riviera takes the Bed & Breakfast concept to a new level. Adriano – the father, Andrea – the son, Silvia – the daughter and Gaia – the jazz playing granddaughter, made me and the other guests feel not only at home but as a part of their family. They went out of their way to make every guest feel as a part of their family by introducing you to other guests, if desired, and their local friends who would stop by for conversations and meals. It was the true concept of what a Bed & Breakfast is supposed to be but one that has been forgotten or not practice over the years. Everything and I mean everything surpassed all of my expectations and then some. My clean and well appointed room looked over Lake Como; I had free parking and free internet access, and fantastic advice everyday on other restaurants and places to visit. The location of the hotel could not have been better because of being down the street from the Lake Como ferry stop and a half hour drive from the city of Como or over to Switzerland. Their excellent restaurant with a wood burning oven served the best pizza in all of northern Italy and some of the best home-made local Italian dishes. But, I must stress again, it was the warmth and caring of the owners or family that made my stay the one to remember. And yes,I would and plan on staying at this hotel again in the future!

All of the staff at the Hotel Riviera were extremely helpful, all spoke excellent English and recommended the best ways of seeing the local area. The hotel would benefit from a bit of updating, however it was very clean and comfortable. Large bedroom with 2 balconies and in an excellent location. The restaurant had a good choice of menu, and offered extremely good value for money. I would definitely stay there again if i was to return to Cadenabbia.

This is a basic hotel, but it was spotlessly clean and for the money (80e double, 54e single incl. breakfast) it was fantastic value. The rooms overlook the lake. However it is on a busy road and therefore noisy, but many of the hotels on Lake Como have the same problem. When we arrived at about midnight, the hotel was in complete darkness and we had to ring to get in. It felt quite unwelcoming and like we were checking into a hostel but over the 2 days we were there we were very impressed with the helpfulness of the all the staff and the cleanliness of absolutely everything. If you want to stay at a good value hotel, I would stay here. It is also right beside the ferry port so getting over to Bellagio could not be easier. PS. Bring your own towels: they provide towels but they are like bed sheets!! Very strange. PPS. Do not go into the Britannia Hotel next door for a drink. It has a lovely garden, but the hotel seems to do all-inclusive deals and the beer was without doubt watered down and the wine was pure plonk!!

The room I stayed as well as the bathroom need renovation, some heating would not hurt as well... I felt it was colder inside that outside and to get hot water I had to leave it open for 10 mins hoping that finally some hot water will arrive...often in vain...The cleaning lady must have guessed it as she was regularly "forgetting" to put soap and shampoo...

This hotel is perfectly fine - we had a nice stay there. The lobby/restaurant area and signs outside could do with being refurbished and brought out of the 70's, but apart from that the hotel is pleasant, clean and had everything we needed. The staff were friendly and spoke excellent English so were very helpful answering our questions and giving recommendations. The hotel is located just across the road from Lake Como and we had excellent views over the lake from our room. It is also only 2 minutes' walk from the ferry port, and Cadenabbia seemed to be the best place to get a ferry from, making the hotel and excellent place to be based on Lake Como.

The hotel is very welcoming and comfortable. The breakfast was great, and other meals (there is a restaurant inside the hotel) were delicious. The only matter one has to be aware of is that although the hotel's location is right next to the lake, it stands by the road with quite a massive traffic. This causes undelightful noises in the middle of the night. Yet, if you are ready to ignore these, the hotel is the perfect (price and quality) place for exploring Como and Lugano lakes.

The only detrimental aspect was the location on a really busy road. The view was wonderful but the road intervened. Also, that side of the lake is harder to reach. We had to stay one night in a hotel in Bergamo before catching a train and two boats to Cadenabbia.

We stayed only 3 nights and wished for more, the staff and management were excellent, very freindly and always willing to oblige, the restaurant had a good menu and the food was well presented, the only two downsides were, no airconditioning, it was hot, even a room fan would have been nice, the front rooms with a superb view could be noisy with passing traffic if windows are left open. I can honestly reccomend this hotel for both the short stay and long stay, the position is very handy for the ferry and boat trips.

Our stay at Riviera was very pleasant. The staff was helpful and polite, the rooms were clean, and the breakfast was very good. The hotel has an old fashioned feel too it in the decorations and doors and was located in a very small town on the western side of Lake Como. There wasn't much to do in the town and we had to get off the boat from Como at a town south of Cadenabbia and walk about 15-20 minutes up the shore to the hotel since the boats from Como don't stop in Cadenabbia very frequently. Even so, the ferry over to Bellagio runs very frequently and later into the night, so once we were there getting around was easy. The ferry station was only a ~2 minute walk from the hotel so the location was great. Also, another transportation option if you don't have a car is the bus. It is much cheaper than the boat ride but can take a while as it is hard for the bus to get around the little roads. It took more time than the express boat that drops you off in another town, but less time than the boat to/from Como that goes directly to Cadenabbia. Overall, our stay was very nice for the price. I would recommend in the future.

We stayed two nights. Very nice stay, beautiful setting. Ferry to and from Bellagio and other towns is very close to hotel. Hotel staff were very accommodating. We would stay again. Restaurant provides a good selection of meals and wines. Door locks to rooms are not very secure--we had two rooms and the key to one of the rooms also opened the other room. There was some party noise one of the nights, and it came through the walls pretty easily. We had to leave by 7:00 a.m. our last morning and did not realize we needed to alert the proprietor, so no one was up and we had to just leave our keys.

My comments above on "property characteristics" are not releveant since I did not end up staying there over a confusion about my reservation. I did want to comment on the courtesy and generosity of the staff. The owner was deeply apologetic about the reservation mix up and offered for us to stay at his bed and breakfast that was in his home in the next town. It was well kept and clean. We ended up eating both our dinners at the restaurant associated with the original hotel. The fish was delicious. Accept the owner's offer to try his speciality regional dishes (like black pasta) because you won't be disappointed. He son also works in the hotel/restaurant and was very helpful in suggesting itineraries for the day. If I had a chance to come back to Lake Como, I would definitely either stay in the hotel or the owner's B&B again and eat in their restaurant. It made the end of our travel very special.

We were given two very spacious double bedrooms on the front of the hotel both of which had a front balcony and one of which also had a side balcony. There was so much space in each room which makes a change from cramped chain hotel-type accommodation. Also, the lakeside views were breathtaking. The staff were most welcoming and very helpful pointing out and providing the local discount card available free of charge without any of us asking about it. Despite the ready availability of nearby restaurants we chose wisely to eat dinner in the hotel dining room which was superb with good food and good - cheap - house wine. The hotel was just a short walk - about 100 yards, say - from the ferry port which took us across the lake to Bellagio a charming little town well worht visiting. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others although people should be aware there is traffic noise as it is situated directly on the main road round the lake but this did not bother us and we were able to sleep undisturbed.

This 2 star(not 3) was an exercize in contrasts. The staff and restaurant was great. The view of Bellagio and proximity to the ferry was great. Unfortunately, our room was the smallest we've ever had and our heads were no more than 25 ft from the white line of the road which seemed like the Italian Grand Prix if you had the windows open. As far as the room size goes, there were others who had no complaints about the size. Bottom Line: Great +s and great -s.

Wonderful location.Parking was included, which turned out to be very important.(off-site,but an easy walk). The room was quite comfortable, and had a stove and small refrigerator,as well as a sitting area.Would stay here again.

Hôtel bien placé avec vue sur le lac (Bellagio) mais au bord de la route (bruyant + dangereux). Chambre toute neuve et super salle de bain moderne. Accueil moyen.

This hotel has a wonderful view looking over Como Lake directly across from Bellagio. When it was not raining or cloudy the sunrise was beautiful. Andrea carried our bags up to our rooms (they were exceedingly heavy); he also worked in the Restaurant with his brother David who seemed to be the social butterfly, chatting to us easily in great English. The food in their restaurant was tasty and reasonable so we ate our dinner there 3 times. The bedrooms all faced the lake and a few had balconies. The bathrooms were very roomy and clean. The linens were real linen, not terrycloth but were like new and were very absorbent. Each room had a TV with CNN so we could monitor the news across the world. Parking was free and adequate. The only downside was the fairly constant noise from the road below. The owner and his sons were very accommodating and friendly and helped make our 3 night stay enjoyable. The location was great for taking tours by the local ferry system. Thanks to Adriana and his sons for their hospitality.

When I read the other reviews I was already warned that one might also get a room without a view over the lake although on their website they only mention those. And that's what happened to us. Since the welcoming was so extremely cold and unfriendly, I didn't want to ask to change the room. This unfriendliness did not really change later. Maybe it was because of the language difficulties. The rooms were nice and clean. The towels were changed everyday, which was good. The hotel's restaurand was very good and the prices were rather low. It's not really a tourists' restaurant. It's rather the place where the locals eat. That was nice. Generally speaking, the price/quality relationship was very good and that's why I would go there again.

Convenient location close to ferry and car ferry terminals for frequent services to other destinations in centre of lake. Not overly impressive exterior and interior reception/lounge area small. Some public areas could do with coat of paint but hotel was very clean. Had to change rooms between first and second nights which was slightly inconvenient. Both bathrooms very spacious although no bath in either. Second room (single) modified for disabled person with very spacious bathroom but slightly cramped bedroom as extremely large single bed - bed linen for this bed was too small and sheets did not tuck in - which i thought would be a major problem but in fact was not and i slept very well. Noise from motorbiles/scooters immediately outside on main road I also thought would be a problem but very effieient double glazed units meant this was not a problem. Good quality cold buffet breakfast with reasonable selection. Convenient location and overall good value for money in height of summer for the more budget conscious. No garden or pool or lido but you et what you pay for ...

This is a fantastic hotel in a most beautiful town. The hotel is right on the water, so the only drawback is the noise from the busy highway. But the views were so beautiful, the staff so helpful and friendly, and the room so nice that I never noticed the street noise. I will stay here again in the future.

The hotel is about 200 yards from where the ferry drops you off at Cadenabbia and the breakfast was delicious- i had ham, cheese, granola cereal, a warm croissant, a roll with nutella, yogurt and juice. and there were more options. i also ate at the restaurant downstairs at night and the food was wonderful and very reasonably priced.

Do not be fooled by the idyllic photo. This property is separated from the lake by a very heavily traveled road. The trucks passed so close to our room that they made the curtains flutter. Most of the rooms front the road so there is no moving to a room in the back and there is no air conditioning, so the rooms are far to hot to sleep in without the widow opened. The two nights we spent in this hotel where horrid. I wish that I had just told them to keep the fee and found another hotel. I am sure this is why they have a three day cancellation policy, once there no one would ever spend a second night if not prepaid. I mean no insult, but if you are hard of hearing or used to sleeping on a highway, the view is beautiful, otherwise find another hotel. But be careful, many of them sit on the main road, although none so close as the Rivera. If the hotel is on Via Regina, do not stay unless you are guaranteed a room in the back.

We had a great stay at the Hotel Riviera. It was a wonderful location on the lake. From our room, we had a great view of Bellagio. The owner/staff could not be more pleasant.....very nice atmosphere. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely like to stay again at the Hotel Riviera some day. We stayed May 27, 2005. One thing worth mentioning....we didn't mind too much because we were just exhausted, but the hotel has recently been remodel (huge bathroom/very clean)....although our room did need a new mattress...we kind of sank in quickly:)

Very good rate (...with exception of shower facility in room 9, which is unusable and should be changed!).

This hotel had a magnificent 180 degree view of the lake from my room (No 15). The sheets and towels were changed daily and were unbeleivably crisp and fresh. The overall impression was one of good quality and I am currently trying to arrange a repeat visit. The ferry terminal was two minutes walk and in sight of the hotel which made travelling to Bellagio across the water easy to get the last two hours of sunshine at 6pm. I used the restaurant on the first night and orderred a Chardonnay. The chef was very proud of his food and wine cellar and immediately visited my table with an Italian wine review of 03 and 04. The wine I had chosen was gold award winner and of exceptional quality. The quality of the breakfast was also noticeable. There were several fruits including fresh strawberries, Cereals, Fruit juices, Apricot pastries, Breads, Jams and Yogurts. Coffe or Tea was served by the owner in individual and large pots as required. I cant wait to return!

Very friendly family run hotel. Staff speak excellent English and very helpful and welcoming. Restaurant also good value for money and the place where the locals go to eat! A little disappointed with our room at the back on the first night, but Adriano immediately offered to move us to a beautiful, spacious room at the front, overlooking the lake, when it became available the next day. Only minus point was the traffic noise which was unavoidable. Otherwise excellent location very near to ferry crossing with easy access to all parts of the lake. We had an excellent walking holiday with many local routes available from the tourist office at Menaggio. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again - thanks!
