We loved Alberghetto La Marianna for the very reason it is unique. Family run, wonderful helpful couple, food unbelievably good, breakfast in their Giardini right on Lake Como - to die for! Bus stop outside front door, ferries to all the other lovely villages easy walk . We would thoroughly commend La Marianna, in fact we didn't want to leave. When booking ask for room over looking Lake Como, it is certainly worth it.....

Friendly, comfortable and welcoming is how I would describe this hotel. Easy walking distance to ferry and other places of interest. Our room at the back of the property had a balcony and was spotlessly clean. Breakfast, especially when served on the lakeside terrace, was excellent. Also recommend dining in the restaurant. Thank you Paola and Ty for a memorable stay.

Paola was lovely, as was her son. They were very responsive, kind, unassuming and warm. They were available for anything you needed and provided it graciously, while at the same time were not intrusive. The hotel was very small and intimate, which suits our style. There are nice stone steps and a cozy feel to the place. The room is very simple, but very clean (most important thing to us). Breakfast was nice - eggs, bread, cheese, meat (though we're vegetarians) and CAKE! The location worked really well for us – we had a car and drove all over the place, plus the ferry is right down the street, and the bus stops in front of the hotel. There was definitely noise from the street, but our room was facing the back, so it wasn’t too bad for us. If you like a lot of nightlife and activity, this would not be the place for you. But, if you like beautiful scenery, strolls along the sidewalk and a low-key, easy way to relax, the Marianna is a great option. For us this was a great value for the money, and we would go back!

Amazing hosts. Delicious food with a discounted rate as a hotel guest. Great views. Excellent location for car and passenger ferry but not much else in the immediate surrounding area which is good (quiet) and bad if you want to have a few bottles of wine without driving! But Menaggio is only a few minutes drive which has plenty to do - restaurants, bars, gelateria, shops etc etc. great place to stay - highly recommended. I will definitely return!!

This was a fantastic B&B type hotel right on Lake Como. Its walking distance from several cafes, restaurants, Villa Carlotta and the ferry terminal. It is on a busy road, but we selected a room facing the back and weren't disturbed by any road noise. There were cute, clean rooms. Breakfast was very good and included more variety than the typical European breakfast. We also ate dinner at the hotel 2 nights and they were among our favorite meals. Chef Ty is fantastic, and his wife Paola and son were personable and helpful hosts as well. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We will definitely return!!!

L'albergehetto La Marianna is kept by Paola, a wonderful and helpful lady which offers everything you need. The place in Griante-Cadenabbia is a wonderful place to stay, because it is a quiet place at only 30 minutes by car from Como citty. The restaurant Cucina della Marianna IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW. It is a must. You can have the most excellent meals at a reasonable price. It is attended by Tiziano, which is a splendid chef.

Stayed over a weekend in Room 12. Requested a lake view room and definitely got it! Big french doors opened to a stunning view of the lake! One days with nice weather, the free breakfast was held on the lakefront. Paola, the owner was extremely helpful and actually drove us to a wedding during horrible weather. This hotel is very much worth the money! The room was great and everything was clean. The only issue has really nothing to do with the hotel and concerned the road noise. The room looked over the lake, but the Via Regina was feet from the hotel and was very noisy.

Stayed for 3 nights. Large comfortable room with balcony facing the lake. Beautiful! Only issue is that the hotel is on a busy street so there is a lot of street noise with cars and motorbikes going by. We had to close the balcony doors at night because of the noise. Easy walk to the ferry and free parking in front of the hotel. Ate at the restaurant downstairs...delicious! Is pricey, but guests at the hotel get a generous discount. Would stay here again!

We have pleasant memories of our stay at La Marianna. Paola is so helpful with information on what to see and how to get there. The outdoor breakfast/dinner area is absolutely beautiful with an A+ view of the lake. We had a room with a small balcony overlooking the lake and enjoyed it very much. We did not have dinner at La Marianna as it seemed kind of expensive, but we did regret it later when we heard how well regarded the cuisine is in the area. The rooms and the bathrooms are large enough.

Our stay was wonderful primarily due to the ability of the owners to make us feel like we were staying in their home. The dinners we ate at the hotel were special. The only negative, and it is one that is well advertised, is that the rooms face directly on to the road and truck and motorcycle noise can be a problem with the windows open. However, aircon is available if you wish to close the windows. We highly recommend this hotel.

This is our second stay at the La Marianna and we plan to return again. We love this place and the owners cannot be more helpful and welcoming - you truly feel like one of the family when you stay here. This is a special place and although it is perched on the road, the cars stop at night when it is time to sleep so it is never a problem. The food at the restaurant is also to die for.

This hotel is fantastic, very 'Italian' with traditional furniture in the bedrooms and the dining area. It is definitely worth asking for a lake view room as the view is truly stunning. The hotel is about a 5 minutes walk from Cadenabbia Ferry station, and is a great location to explore the local towns. The only negative about the hotel is that it is on a busy road, however, at night we shut the double doors, closed the shutters and slept really well. The air conditioning saved us when the doors were closed! The breakfasts are great - fresh bread, jam, cheeses, cereals, eggs cooked however you would like, fruit and unlimited tea and coffee. The evening meal at the hotel is very 'a la carte', beautifully presented and an amazing array of tastes, all home made. As a resident of the hotel, you get a fantastic discount off the evening set menu (30 euros instead of 47). However, as we found out, you don't get a discount if you choose just a couple of courses. The hotel staff are very friendly, are happy to let you speak Italian, but they are all fluent in english if you need them to be! Overall, this was a great holiday. A mixture of relaxation and exploring the area. We would love to go back.

The hotel has an excellent cuisine for dinner. The views from the hotel, especially the front garden area by the lake, are spectacular looking across to Bellagio and Varenna. Excellent home made food in the restaurant. Lots of places to drive to by car: square and narrow streets in Menaggio, Villa Carlotta, Como city. And don't miss a boat trip to Bellagio and Villa Balbianello. Lake Como and Alberghetto La Marianna are without doubt a place to come back to. We will.

This is a modest unassuming hotel which you wouldn't look twice at if travelling past would not pick from first impressions. That said, we had a very pleasant stay here and cannot fault the room, service or breakfasts we were provided here. I am pleased we found this hotel via the web site. The hotel itself is located on a rather busy road but we were not at all troubled by traffic noise in our room. There are a few modest restaurants nearby and the hotel itself has a popular restaurant providing a fixed menu for a moderate price. The main advantage of this location is the close proximity to the ferry quay at Cadenabbia only a few minutes walk away. The main appeal to us of the area was visiting the various shore-side towns in the vicinity - Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio. This gave us a few days respite from being in the car on our 3 week tour and was a very pleasant change. I would recommend this location for those who don't mind modest accomodation, who love lake scenery and are not necessarily looking for razzmatazz. Great for a few days relaxation.

This was a in-between stay on trip farther to Italy - the Alberghetto is situated directly at the quayside road along Lake Como. Our room was small but nice, and we were very warmly welcomed and loved the atmosphere in the hotel. The menu we had for dinner was also fine. All in all a very recommendable place to stay! (The noise of the road, only problematic, is well restrained by rather soundproof windows.)

We though this was a very characterful hotel, with excellent hosts and home cooking, Our stay was only marred by 2 things. Firstly, traffic noise from the main road outside which runs down the west side of Lake como. This was not too bad at night in our stay, because we could close the windows, and there is air-conditioning for hot summers days. Secondly, a jammed radiatior amde the room very hot one night, but the staff immediately moved us to another room the following morning.

This was our first visit to Lake Como and we loved it. The hotel is just across the main road from the lake, and the views are fabulous. The windows are sound proof so road noise is not the problem - just noise from other guests. The bathroom was very modern, clean, and well appointed. There is a comfortable seating area outside across the road on the lake. The breakfast room is also very comfortable, and the food provided by Paola is fabulous! She will cook eggs to order, and she puts out a great variety of foods. She is friendly and helpful with good advice on sightseeing. There is a wonderful "Greenway" walkway along the lake and up into some of the neighborhoods - follow the signs on the sidewalk. Villa Carlotta is highly recommended. The ferry is very close and convenient for sightseeing around the lake. We enjoyed Bellagio and Varenna.

The co-owner of this homely B and B, Paola, is an extremely empathetic and friendly host who seems to have a genuine interest in her guests. Nothing is too much trouble, with Paola procatively looking for ways to be helpful, for example, suggesting that breakfast be provided for us early to allow a bus to be caught. Paola's friendliness made the stay memorable although the room was also very comfortable and spacious. Breakfasts were absolutely wonderful especially when the weather allowed us to eat in the hotel's lakeside 'dining room' (completely out of doors and across the road) which at night became a very popular themed restaurant. One of the comic highlights was to watch Paola, and waiters at night, sprinting backwards and forwards over the pedestrian crossing with food. Paola cooked suitably rustic and authentic cakes and tarts every day which were only part of the very varied and delicious breafast offering. The B and B is quiet, small and perfectly positioned in the middle of the shore of Lake Como away from the tourist hordes of Bellagio and the tour groups of the huge hotels which dot the lakeside. Staying at this B and B was undoubtedly the highlight of our Italian tour. We also enjoyed relaxing beside the lake where there are many interesting villas and beautiful gardens to visit. There is also a host of water sports which can be enjoyed including swimming, fishing, windsurfing and kite boarding. If you like walking, this is the place with a 'green walk' extending for 10 or so k's along the lakeside and into the gentle slopes of the surrounding hills. We also enjoyed the local weekly markets where fresh local produce, shoes and clothing were the main items for sale. One of these markets was right along the lake's shore. In fact many of the small towns here have interesting shops both for the locals and the tourists. We would certainly return to this part of the world and to this B and B in particular.

Lovely little place, rooms fairly simple in decor but extremely clean and well kept. Owned by very friendly man and wife team, always more than helpful. Great coffee in the morning and home baked cake and jams - simple but delicious. The hotel restaurant is a must go, not the cheapest but the cuisine is local and of really fantastic quality. The wines are also great value. The location of the hotel is a perfect base for exploring this area as close to the boat and within a stomp or couple of min in the car from the larger town of Mennagio which is very charming and has a number of eateries. The only point if you are bothered about that kind of thing is that there is no TV in the rooms, normally standard in a 3 star, but if you are set on watching TV whilst in the lakes, you are perhaps on the wrong holiday! Free wifi in the hotel was also a great bonus.

This hotel is a real gem. I stayed here for 3 nights in August and would love to return. The people were very friendly and welcoming and seemed to appreciate my attempts to converse in Italian. I loved the individuality of the furnishings, the quirky layout of the hotel, and its shelves of guidebooks. Breakfast was fantastic - everything was such high quality, especially the home-baked cake, the great caffelatte, and the eggs cooked to perfection. All eaten on the most perfect lakeside terrace with great views of Bellagio and the north of the lake. Having read the reviews before I went, I was pleasantly surprised by the road - much less busy than I had expected, and I never heard any traffic noise from my room. Great location - 5 minutes to the Bellagio ferry, 10 minute walk to Tremezzo and Villa Carlotta.

The views at breakfst in the garden by the lake were stunning. Easy access to the ferry terminal and walking in to Cadenabbia which has limited restaurants. The Hotel has a gourmet type restaurant underneath which seems good and popular with locals. Everything about the Hotel Alberghetto La Marianna was great. The owner was very helpful and breakfast was delicious. The restaurant downstairs served some of the best food we ate in Italy. The hotel is located on a busy road right on the lake so there was traffic noise when we had the windows open. We drove from Milan and would not do this again because the road around the lake was very narrow. If we get to return to this area we would take the train and ferry.

The Hotel Alberghetto La Marianna exceeded our expectations. Cadennabia was perfect for exploring Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio--just perfect. The restaurant in the hotel, however, was the best touch! It was one of my top 3 meals of my life! The Cardamon Rabbit, Prawn Soup, Fish Quenelle, and service--to die for!

The road in front of the hotel is loud, but the windows are quiet good and keep the noise outside. Very good breakfast, nice owners. The restaurant isn't cheap, but excellent. Good point to start exploring the lake by boat/ferry!

Dieses Hotel können wir weiterempfehlen. Das Zimmer war sehr gut, sauber und ruhig. Das Essen im dazugehörigen Restaurant war hervorragend. Sollten wir nochmals in der Gegend sein, kommen wir gerne wieder.

Owners were very helpful and accomodating. Food was wonderful in the restaurant. You can't beat the view, great view of Bellagio. It's on a busy street but closing the windows and turning on the air conditioner at night took care of the noise. It is a short walk to the ferry which can take you all around the Lake. Highly recommended. I hope we can return someday.

The hotel location is very strategic for visting Lake Como. The views are wonderful and the hole is very close to the ferry and gorgeous mansions. The owner, Paula, was a real joy to meet. She was very helpful with information and bakes wonderful breads and rolls. She made staying at La Marianna almost worth the constant, loud traffic noise outside. If we go back we will ask from rooms away from the traffic! The hotel is quaint, older, but clean. The rooms are nice size, but our bathroom had no stand up shower, just a tub. Some rooms have showers. We were there in late October.

This is a very nice small hotel, or large bed&breakfast with 8 rooms. Marianna, who owns and runs the Alberhetto, is very kind and helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent - only 50 meters to the ferry boat that takes you to the stunning Bellagio, or Menaggio, or Varenna. The service and quality of this hotel is above what you would normally get for this price!

This was just the best find in Lake Como, Paolo, Tai, Carlotta and Giacomo are the best. We hated to leave, we felt like family and took lots of group photos before we left. Breakfast was always a treat by Paolo and Tai has the restaurant downstairs which is truly a delight. I'd love to go back and spend more time there.

Paula, Paulo, & their son were wonderful - very helpful with suggestions for activities & directions to get to wherever we wanted to go. The rooms were wonderful - clean, spacious, & nice balconies. The best part was breakfast in the morning out on the terrace on the lake. Paula's fresh baked bread & cakes accompanied by her wonderful coffee were the perfect way to start the day. Dinner at the restaurant was also very good - it was great to be able to have a leisurely meal out on the terrace in the evening and everything was beautifully presented.

We arrived on a rainy afternoon and found we were right on the busy road which was noisy; but we were offered a nice cup of tea and had wireless internet access and could do some needed work while we waited for the rain. The view of the Lake was beautiful and the breakfast area on the Lake lovely. The pictures didn't show that we were on such a busy road which might have changed our location. We were well treated and found Marianna very helpful.

The hotel is at a very nice spot right on the lake shore, easy to find. The owner, a nice lady, gave us good advice where to go and what to look without even asking for it - her advice seemed to be very valuable. The restaurant on the ground floor was good too. We had a pleasent stay, well worth the money.

The hotel could be ok, but it is really in front of the major street of the zone and it is very noisy. As there is no air conditionning, you must keep the windows open when it is hot and so, it is very difficult to sleep

It was a true highlight of our trip. Paola was a great hostess and her husband is a fantastic gourmet chef. We only spent one day there, but would have been happy to spend several more. We have already recommended it to friends . The special touches that are offered there make this a very unique experience for their guests.

A warm and friendly place. We had driven in from Geneva, a long trip on real narrow italian roads, and we looked exhausted and were grumpy, Marianna, or Mama, as I called her, called me out for grumpiness, all in good fun. After all, we were in Italy now, she said. The hotel is super-convenient to other restaurants and the ferry system to other villages on the lake. The in-house restaurant downstairs is top-notch; fantastic menu with an outstanding wine list, tremendous service and attention by "Papa" and a superb chef. All very friendly, talkative-in English or Canadian-and helpful with ideas of what to do. Special kudos to the daughter who ran the breakfast show. You can't go wrong with this place. Warning: Bring your own cellphone to Italy. Finding a payphone, working or not, is harder than finding a ham sandwich in Israel.

Hotel owners are extremely friendly and helpful, speaking impeccable English. Rooms are clean, views of lake are fantastic. Only criticism is the rooms with a lake view also have a road view (road between lake and hotel and is busy 24 hours). When the windows are closed the noise is not bad but when they are open the noise is too much to get any sleep and as there is no AC you tend to want to open the windows. Apart from that the hotel is great, but ask for a back room without the lake view. You will see anough of the lake anyway.

A homelike small hotel, very warm and welcomed. Lovely very clean room. Home style breakfast, including bread and cake. Eating outside near the lake is something else. 2 Minutes away from the marina to Bellagio & Menaggio. Thanks to double-glazing, noise of cars from the near road is almost unheardable.

we had no real problems with this house bar its location. it was isolated and too rural - situated in a village with zero facilities (no cafe/bar open, no shops, nothing for teenagers to do...it really is a location mainly suited to hill-walkers. The house was clean and pleasant but definitely needs the lumpy mattress on the double bed replaced! Also, the shower in the downstairs garage does not suffice for a 2nd bathroom, the garden was too sloped to be of any use.

This hotel was on the road along the Lake near the ferry terminal to explore the other towns. It was clean and spacious with helpful staff. Several rooms had balconies overlooking the lake and meals were served in an outdoor area across the road from the hotel and on the lake's edge.Food was excellent and owners and their daughter spoke good English.A comfortable area for English speakers as many others are there too !! Tip: When catching the ferry, ask for an all day or multi-trip ticket to enable you to go to all the towns and back. Alternatively catch a bus once you are on the same side of the lake again.

While in Northern Italy, we stayed at 8 different locations. La Marianna was by far the most enjoyable of the hotels. The service provided by the inn owner was very personalized. We felt really at home there. The food, wine, and service at the restaurant on the ground level were exceptional. We will definitely return to La Marianna again.
