After a complete restructuration it reopened July 7th 2001. The 8 rooms are equipped with air conditioning and are tastefully decorated and offer a splendid view on the lake, the Bellagio peninsula and the Grigna mountains.
The owner, Paola, runs the inn personally and she will await you smiling. At breakfast she treats you with home made bread, jam and cakes. She is glad to arrange your holiday: markets, shopping, trekking, boat trips, including maps and timetables. And at the time to leave... she can suggest you the best way to get to your next destination.

This is an excellent small hotel, which offers a very personal service. Paola the owner is just wonderful, she is there when you need her help but never interferring. The hotel has an excellent cuisine for dinner. The views from the hotel, especially the front garden area by the lake, are spectacular looking across to Bellagio and Varenna. The hotel is nicely situated for the boats or the buses to either to Como or to Menaggio or to switzerland and are very inexpensive.

We had such a wonderful time at Hotel Alberghetto La Marianna. Our hosts, Paola and Titziano, were so gracious and friendly. They made us feel right at home. The hotel is so picturesque with old fashioned grace and modern amenities. The location and view are fantastic. We enjoyed the restaurant with it's themed menu very much. Breakfast and dinner on the lakeside terrace is a delight. It was the trip of lifetime for us that we will never forget.

Situated with a perfect vue over Lake Como. Very friendly host and staff. Help you with brochures and tickets for sightseeing. Wonderful to have breakfast at the terrace with lake vue. Excellent home made food in the restaurant. Lots of places to drive to by car: square and narrow streets in Menaggio, Villa Carlotta, Como city. And don't miss a boat trip to Bellagio and Villa Balbianello. Lake Como and Alberghetto La Marianna are without doubt a place to come back to. We will.

This is a modest unassuming hotel which you wouldn't look twice at if travelling past would not pick from first impressions. That said, we had a very pleasant stay here and cannot fault the room, service or breakfasts we were provided here. I am pleased we found this hotel via the web site. The hotel itself is located on a rather busy road but we were not at all troubled by traffic noise in our room. There are a few modest restaurants nearby and the hotel itself has a popular restaurant providing a fixed menu for a moderate price. The main advantage of this location is the close proximity to the ferry quay at Cadenabbia only a few minutes walk away. The main appeal to us of the area was visiting the various shore-side towns in the vicinity - Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio. This gave us a few days respite from being in the car on our 3 week tour and was a very pleasant change. I would recommend this location for those who don't mind modest accomodation, who love lake scenery and are not necessarily looking for razzmatazz. Great for a few days relaxation.

This was a in-between stay on trip farther to Italy - the Alberghetto is situated directly at the quayside road along Lake Como. Our room was small but nice, and we were very warmly welcomed and loved the atmosphere in the hotel. The menu we had for dinner was also fine. All in all a very recommendable place to stay! (The noise of the road, only problematic, is well restrained by rather soundproof windows.)

Best place to stay in lake with views across lake to Bellagio & Varenna. Highlights were Breakfast on the lake, room with balcomy overlooking the lake, friendliness & helpfulness of owner Paulo. Could not have asked for more to complete a lovely holiday

The owners and staff could not have been more accomodating as we arrived later than expected. The food cooked by the owner and served in the restaurant is excellent and is a must when you stay in Lake Como, weather your staying at this hotel or not.We will definitely be going back.

We though this was a very characterful hotel, with excellent hosts and home cooking, Our stay was only marred by 2 things. Firstly, traffic noise from the main road outside which runs down the west side of Lake como. This was not too bad at night in our stay, because we could close the windows, and there is air-conditioning for hot summers days. Secondly, a jammed radiatior amde the room very hot one night, but the staff immediately moved us to another room the following morning.

This was our first visit to Lake Como and we loved it. The hotel is just across the main road from the lake, and the views are fabulous. The windows are sound proof so road noise is not the problem - just noise from other guests. The bathroom was very modern, clean, and well appointed. There is a comfortable seating area outside across the road on the lake. The breakfast room is also very comfortable, and the food provided by Paola is fabulous! She will cook eggs to order, and she puts out a great variety of foods. She is friendly and helpful with good advice on sightseeing. There is a wonderful "Greenway" walkway along the lake and up into some of the neighborhoods - follow the signs on the sidewalk. Villa Carlotta is highly recommended. The ferry is very close and convenient for sightseeing around the lake. We enjoyed Bellagio and Varenna.

This is without doubt a hidden gem. Unfortunately it will not be for long and I hope that it does not become too popular as I would definately want to be able to book it again and not find it booked up. The rooms were very clean although a little Sparten. The hospitality unsurpassed and the food to die for. Unbeatable value for money.

The hotel is in one of the most idyllic locations and the view from our room's balcony was absolutely lovely. We thought the service, helpfulness and friendliness of the staff were very good and our interactions were always positive. Breakfast was more than ample, including a wonderful homemade cake. Bottled water was complimentary. This place is a gem and my wife and I would like to return here someday.

We had excellent interaction with staff at hotel. They were very friendly and helpful and provided information to surrounding areas. Full breakfast was great! The set dinners (priced separately) were some of the best we had in Italy. The only drawback was some highway noise during peak traffic periods. Our room was bright and clean with a great view of the lake from our balcony. The outdoor dining area on the lake was magical!

The hotel staff was amazing, Paolo was very accomodating and so helpful when I had questions about the surrounding areas and how to travel there, etc. I would recommend this place to anyone that was looking for that personal touch. The room with the lake view is nice but it's downside is the noise that comes from the busy road right outside the window. That is my ONLY complaint.

I loved this place, the overall experience was brilliant. I will definitely go back. The restaurant was the best and if you are a food lover do yourself a favour and stay here because the food is to die for. The view from room 12 is excellent and the quiet location away from the central tourist area of Bellagio was a bonus, however it was easily accessabile via the ferry. You could park the car, walk to the ferry and not drive for a week. The bus is right out the front too. I felt like I was staying with my family. I am counting down the days until I return.

This was a delightful hotel in a beautiful part of the lake. Paola was so friendly, welcoming and helpful making our most enjoyable stay even more memorable. Breakfast beside the lake was a great start to each day. We would highly recommend Alberghetto La Marianna and look forward to visiting again in the future. The restaurant is superb - the Chef, Tiziano, unique. The food reflecting local cuisine with Tiziano's personal touches.

The co-owner of this homely B and B, Paola, is an extremely empathetic and friendly host who seems to have a genuine interest in her guests. Nothing is too much trouble, with Paola procatively looking for ways to be helpful, for example, suggesting that breakfast be provided for us early to allow a bus to be caught. Paola's friendliness made the stay memorable although the room was also very comfortable and spacious. Breakfasts were absolutely wonderful especially when the weather allowed us to eat in the hotel's lakeside 'dining room' (completely out of doors and across the road) which at night became a very popular themed restaurant. One of the comic highlights was to watch Paola, and waiters at night, sprinting backwards and forwards over the pedestrian crossing with food. Paola cooked suitably rustic and authentic cakes and tarts every day which were only part of the very varied and delicious breafast offering. The B and B is quiet, small and perfectly positioned in the middle of the shore of Lake Como away from the tourist hordes of Bellagio and the tour groups of the huge hotels which dot the lakeside. Staying at this B and B was undoubtedly the highlight of our Italian tour. We also enjoyed relaxing beside the lake where there are many interesting villas and beautiful gardens to visit. There is also a host of water sports which can be enjoyed including swimming, fishing, windsurfing and kite boarding. If you like walking, this is the place with a 'green walk' extending for 10 or so k's along the lakeside and into the gentle slopes of the surrounding hills. We also enjoyed the local weekly markets where fresh local produce, shoes and clothing were the main items for sale. One of these markets was right along the lake's shore. In fact many of the small towns here have interesting shops both for the locals and the tourists. We would certainly return to this part of the world and to this B and B in particular.

I enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hotel to others. It is a great hotel overlooking the lake and within walking distance to the ferries. The owners were very friendly and helpful. I had a room with a balcony overlooking the lake. The busy road outside can be a bit noisy though.

Lovely little place, rooms fairly simple in decor but extremely clean and well kept. Owned by very friendly man and wife team, always more than helpful. Great coffee in the morning and home baked cake and jams - simple but delicious. The hotel restaurant is a must go, not the cheapest but the cuisine is local and of really fantastic quality. The wines are also great value. The location of the hotel is a perfect base for exploring this area as close to the boat and within a stomp or couple of min in the car from the larger town of Mennagio which is very charming and has a number of eateries. The only point if you are bothered about that kind of thing is that there is no TV in the rooms, normally standard in a 3 star, but if you are set on watching TV whilst in the lakes, you are perhaps on the wrong holiday! Free wifi in the hotel was also a great bonus.

Wonderful family run hotel. Great place to base yourself for a Lake Como holiday. C30 Bus stops right outside hotel, and the ferry to Bellagio/Menaggio is 10 mins walk. Hosts are very welcoming, very helpful. The restaurant downstairs is a gem, and the breakfasts are very relaxing. Keep this one to yourselves...

This hotel is a real gem. I stayed here for 3 nights in August and would love to return. The people were very friendly and welcoming and seemed to appreciate my attempts to converse in Italian. I loved the individuality of the furnishings, the quirky layout of the hotel, and its shelves of guidebooks. Breakfast was fantastic - everything was such high quality, especially the home-baked cake, the great caffelatte, and the eggs cooked to perfection. All eaten on the most perfect lakeside terrace with great views of Bellagio and the north of the lake. Having read the reviews before I went, I was pleasantly surprised by the road - much less busy than I had expected, and I never heard any traffic noise from my room. Great location - 5 minutes to the Bellagio ferry, 10 minute walk to Tremezzo and Villa Carlotta.

We did enjoy our stay in "La Marianna" very much. Although the street runs directly before the hotel, we liked our room looking onto the lake and especially the terrace directly at the lake for breakfeast and other meals. It is located very well to reach every location in Cadenabbia very easily. We want to come back to "La Marianna" at our next stay in Cadenabbia.

Hotel is very good value. The owner and staff were very helpful. The rooms were clean and the linen regularly changed. Excellent views over the lake. Individual air conditioning worked well. The views at breakfst in the garden by the lake were stunning. Easy access to the ferry terminal and walking in to Cadenabbia which has limited restaurants. The Hotel has a gourmet type restaurant underneath which seems good and popular with locals. The only drawback is that the main road is between the Hotel and the lake. It is not noisy at night if the shutters are closed and the air conditioning running. Try the bar restaurant Belle Isola for an excellent reasonably priced meal. 100 meters past the ferry terminal from the Hotel. A wonderful holiday.

Everything about the Hotel Alberghetto La Marianna was great. The owner was very helpful and breakfast was delicious. The restaurant downstairs served some of the best food we ate in Italy. The hotel is located on a busy road right on the lake so there was traffic noise when we had the windows open. We drove from Milan and would not do this again because the road around the lake was very narrow. If we get to return to this area we would take the train and ferry.

The Hotel Alberghetto La Marianna exceeded our expectations. Cadennabia was perfect for exploring Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio--just perfect. The restaurant in the hotel, however, was the best touch! It was one of my top 3 meals of my life! The Cardamon Rabbit, Prawn Soup, Fish Quenelle, and service--to die for!

Owners were very helpful and accomodating. Food was wonderful in the restaurant. You can't beat the view, great view of Bellagio. It's on a busy street but closing the windows and turning on the air conditioner at night took care of the noise. It is a short walk to the ferry which can take you all around the Lake. Highly recommended. I hope we can return someday.

The hotel location is very strategic for visting Lake Como. The views are wonderful and the hole is very close to the ferry and gorgeous mansions. The owner, Paula, was a real joy to meet. She was very helpful with information and bakes wonderful breads and rolls. She made staying at La Marianna almost worth the constant, loud traffic noise outside. If we go back we will ask from rooms away from the traffic! The hotel is quaint, older, but clean. The rooms are nice size, but our bathroom had no stand up shower, just a tub. Some rooms have showers. We were there in late October.

This is a very nice small hotel, or large bed&breakfast with 8 rooms. Marianna, who owns and runs the Alberhetto, is very kind and helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent - only 50 meters to the ferry boat that takes you to the stunning Bellagio, or Menaggio, or Varenna. The service and quality of this hotel is above what you would normally get for this price!

A warm and friendly place. We had driven in from Geneva, a long trip on real narrow italian roads, and we looked exhausted and were grumpy, Marianna, or Mama, as I called her, called me out for grumpiness, all in good fun. After all, we were in Italy now, she said. The hotel is super-convenient to other restaurants and the ferry system to other villages on the lake. The in-house restaurant downstairs is top-notch; fantastic menu with an outstanding wine list, tremendous service and attention by "Papa" and a superb chef. All very friendly, talkative-in English or Canadian-and helpful with ideas of what to do. Special kudos to the daughter who ran the breakfast show. You can't go wrong with this place. Warning: Bring your own cellphone to Italy. Finding a payphone, working or not, is harder than finding a ham sandwich in Israel.

Hotel owners are extremely friendly and helpful, speaking impeccable English. Rooms are clean, views of lake are fantastic. Only criticism is the rooms with a lake view also have a road view (road between lake and hotel and is busy 24 hours). When the windows are closed the noise is not bad but when they are open the noise is too much to get any sleep and as there is no AC you tend to want to open the windows. Apart from that the hotel is great, but ask for a back room without the lake view. You will see anough of the lake anyway.

we had no real problems with this house bar its location. it was isolated and too rural - situated in a village with zero facilities (no cafe/bar open, no shops, nothing for teenagers to do...it really is a location mainly suited to hill-walkers. The house was clean and pleasant but definitely needs the lumpy mattress on the double bed replaced! Also, the shower in the downstairs garage does not suffice for a 2nd bathroom, the garden was too sloped to be of any use.

My wife and I stayed three nights at the Alberghetto La Marianna. The hotel is an excellent bargain and well located for local excursions such as Villa Carlotta and the ferry to Bellagio. The rooms are large and well kept. Paola was an excellent hostess, acquaintance of Rick Steves, and is always ready to give great travel advice. She speaks very good English and tolerated my poor Italian ("uova strapazzate"). Parking is a little tight and the hotel is close to the road, but those are minor inconveniences. I would recommend it if you are looking for a bed and breakfast experience, Italian-style.

We enjoyed immensely our four night stay at Alberghetto ala Marianna. The service was warm and welcoming. Paola made us feel right at home. Our room had a gorgeous view of the lake and the mountains. It was large and spotless, as was our private bathroom. The only drawback was the location directly on the lakeshore highway, which made it dangerous to cross with the speeding cars. We would definitely stay again on our next visit to Lake Como.

We stayed for one week in March 2004. The location on the lake and the view from the hotel was wonderful! Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and provided wholesome breakfasts with snacks/meals on request. The meals and wine in the restaurant were tasty and interesting.

a very good place to be although it was very hard to find to to the lack of indications of villages on the road - but this problem has nothing to do with the hotel itself of course. I would recommend to the tourists to bring their GPS system within the car to locate the hotel.

Too small to be a 3* hotel. No lounge, no reception. no TVs in rooms, how did it get that rating? No front area, straight from the building onto the main road.

Unlike some of the reviews we read before booking, we did not find the road outside particularly noisy. The rooms were clean and spacious and there was a warm welcome from Paola that made one feel at home. Griante is a convenient location for touring the Lakes and there are lots of local walks providing breathtaking views. I recommend the hotel and and envisage numerous more visits with my family.

The facilities and service were the very best for this property type and offered exceptional value for money. The hosts and staff could not have been more helpful, knowledgable and enthusiastic. I would return here any time and recommend this to all my friends. It is well worth eating in the downstairs restaurant for a special treat.

The hotel was really nice and the owner very helpful and welcoming. Her suggestions and information/maps really helped to make our visit very good. The only improvement would be that having made our reservation, it would have been better if the confirmation e-mail contained we clear directions to the hotel (we only had just the village name), a full address and a telephone number (which we coukd have then left as an emergency contact)

A very nice accomodation right by the lake with nice views. It is close to the highway but nice for the price. The owner is wonderful and helpful and the breakfast is delicious. There is a restaurant right there that serves nice meals also. We enjoyed our stay very much.

This place is a true gem. Great view from the balconies from the street side rooms. Its walking distance to the water bus dock. The owner Paula is a great help with everything. The restaurant below is first rate. Definitely the best rooms we had in Italy.

Paola & Ty are great hosts. Don't miss dining in their attached restorante. Scrambled eggs for breakfast what a treat after all those dry continental breakfasts elsewhere. Only a 30 min walk to Mennaggio if you miss the bus and the ferry.
How to reach Hotel Alberghetto La Marianna
By BUS:
From the city of Como the bus is "C10" and the stop is directly in front of the hotel.

From Varenna or from Bellagio, take the Ferry to Cadenabbia. The Ferry Terminal of Cadenabbia is just around the corner and within walking distance.
By CAR:
From Milan: exit the highway at "Como Nord" and take "Strada Statale Regina" (the main lake road) in the direction of MENAGGIO. Coming from Como, Cadenabbia is 1.5km after Tremezzo and 3 km before Menaggio.
From Lugano in Switzerland: follow the directions for Gandria, which is the border. Once across the border follow the road past Porlezza and all the way to the Menaggio traffic light. Continue straight for 3 km to reach Cadenabbia and ALBERGHETTO della MARIANNA.
