The Grand Hotel Cadenabbia is a magnificent old building, but the current owners seem to be running it into the ground. The facility was extremely poorly maintained, the room was in very bad condition, the staff were adequate, but hardly what one would expect for such a grand place. The location is right on Lake Como, but there is a lot of traffic out the front of the building. Until the owners start updating and repairing the facility, there are better choices in the Como area.

This hotel failed to meet my expectations in a number of aspects Reception staff were unfriendly and/or unwilling to proactively help in providing information about, say, good nearby restaurants. Room decor was extremely dated, with minimal facilities. The tiny TV (c.14 inch screen)had very limited channels, with substantial interference on nearly all of them, and the rooms are very dark and stale(specifically, we stayed in the garden view room due to lack of availability for sea view rooms). The hotel staff competently answered our questions, however, one would expect more information from 'locals' - this was not the case, and we often felt uncomfortable about approaching many of the staff for help. Internet is available only in certain areas of the reception/entrance. The breakfast room was great in terms of the view as well as selection of food/fruit. Hotel very much geared towards elder clientele. Large consensus of clientele >60yrs of age.

This hotel was magnificent in terms of the beauty of the hotel itself and also it's surroundings (great views from front rooms of Lake Como). The price (which is quite on the expensive side) reflects the service and hotel so you get what you pay for. I viewed other responses before I left for holiday and I was very suprised, as some were very negative, but I found this not to be the case at all..... This particular hotel is located quite conveniently to access all ferrys accross the lake, especially to Bellagio, which has lots of shops and is the only area on the lake open on Sundays. Overall, excellent stay and would recommend to everyone.

The hotel staff were coarse, our problem with accomodation was solved only with the help of the chief manager. Perhaps they were tired of their work, but it can not excuse them.

Wonderful position, unfortunately I had a leak in my room from the ceiling, and had to change rooms the next day with NO help to shift lugguage etc. No casual cafe for a coffee, and dinner was a full buffett, with set price, too much food ! If going to Villa Balbinello, make sure you know where Lenno is to get off the bus, we ended up in Como! Easy access to Belagio ( A MUST ) and Varenna also worth visiting. A large hotel, very impersonal, otherewise no complaints.

Bathrooms were not supplied with tissues. Desk staff were mainly inattentive and were on the defensive when asked questions. Towels were not available at the pool. Renovations in the lobby were being done all of the time and the work was very noisy. Location of pool was not adequately posted.

The room was good, but the service in the breakfast room was slow. Food and plates ran out, and waiters stood around not really reacting. There were many waiters around but they didn't seem to be proactive about forseeing that there would be shortages before they actually occurred. On the reception I had to wait a long time due to computer problems. It's a pity because the rest of the hotel and facilities were good. The views are gorgeous and the outside terrasse lovely.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Cadenabbia for three nights. The terrace room was spacious and well appointed, renovated in period style but not to a high standard. The dining room on the 5th floor has a good view of the lake but only offers a fixed price 4 course dinner at night. A la carte is not offered but would make dining in more attractive for guests who do not want a large meal.

We like hotel overall, but pool area will need quick reforming. Poolside wooden parts/pool terrace was dangerous slippery. Pool shower was almost broken and very dirty, because sewer was broken/clogged.

The Grand in the name is historical. It's more a middle class hotel. The price was ok (with lake view). Breakfast is ok, but seams to be a very quick "fast food" - service. Don't pay for the evening lunch. It's realy expensive (35,-€) without quality. Go to the next restaurants and pay a half for a double good dinner in quite (spring time) and friendly atmosphere. Overall it was ok, but have not such great expectations. have nice holidays, Arne

We enjoyed our stay at the Cadenabia and found the hotel as advertised. One recommendation would be to ask for a room far away from the lifts, which 'bing bong' every time the door opens, particularly on Floor 5 where the bar is located (very annoying at midnightand/or 6:30am!). That said we had a lake room with balcony which was lovely - superb view, and found the hotel overall good value for money.

Hotel is well appointed, with pleasant rooms. Beds on rather the hard side. We were upgraded to a lake view room, which was a pleasant surprise, but were put next to the Sun Deck, where we could hear the late night revellers very well. Noise from the street was however, minimal. We were not that impressed with the breakfast - we really felt that it was sub-standard for a hotel of this quality. The coffee was dreadful and the scrambled eggs tasted as if they were prepared from powdered egg. There was a good choice of cheese, cold meats, breads etc.

Great hotel, well located on the west bank of Lake Como. Great views of Bellagio from the terraces. Easy parking next to the hotel. Wonderful breakfast on the top floor overlooking the lake. Caters mostly to tour groups, but not a problem. Quiet area with great restaurants within walking distance. Ferry to Bellagio a 5 minute walk from the hotel - extremely convinient location.

Enjoyed our stay here. Ferry to Bellagio is close and regularly available. If you are not a smoker, be sure to get a non-smoking room - if they have them. Our terrace room had pillows that reaked of smoke. Area is lovely, breakfast very enjoyable, panaromic restaurant offered a beautiful view. If you are taking train to Como or Lugano and then the bus to Cadenabbia, be sure to know the bus schedule and plan accordingly. We had a late train, missed the last bus, and had a 60 Euro cab ride from Como.
