Hotel Giovanni da Verrazzano - Greve in Chianti

Lovely hotel in a lovely setting. Nice room with a great terrace. Perfect location to enjoy the wine festival. The restaurant serves excellent food..the only criticism is that the second course was too salty. Everything else was lovely.

The manager Roberto was a very very kindly person and very helpfull

Nice old Italian style hotel. I want to mention their fantastic restaurant with a view of the square - top food - top staff!

There was little to complain about here but little outstanding either. Breakfast was average, rooms were clean but rather dark and a little crowded. Location is great, right in the main piazza in Greve. I just don't think it was great value - I have stayed in better properties and paid less. (But perhaps Greve in Chianti is an expensive town - I don't know.)

This hotel has a great location in the piazza. It is a short walk to any of the many good restaurants and shops. There are some good walks from the hotel in the beautiful countryside (ask at the tourist office just 50 metres away) and lots of typical Tuscan villages just a short drive away. However the staff at the hotel need at least a week at charm school. It was difficult to work out who was supposed to be behind the desk - usually no one - and then it appeared to be a chore to offer any help. The breakfasts were very poor. Our room had a 1st floor varanda which was quite private and peaceful. Despite the problems we enjoyed our stay in Greve.

Hotel Giovanni da Verazzano is a wonderful small hotel situated at the Piazza of Greve.We rented a tripleroom.This room has no terrace but a nice view to the beautiful piazza.Early in the morning the italian life starts and you will probably be wakened,(I used earplugs).Some of the doublerooms have balconys and are more quiet I guess,placed at the backside of the building. Breakfast was continental;sweet cakes,some white bread,cheese,no eggs,but very good coffee! You´ll find a Coop just 150 m from the hotel where fresh bread,prosciutto di Parma,all kinds of cheese,Chianti Classico Riserva wines are waiting to be bought by you if you want to.. The restaurant terrace is absolutely wonderful,overviewing the piazza.The light in the piazza especially during afternoon/evening is magic. We chose to have dinner at a trattoria/ristorante in the corner of the piazza. The one with white and blue cloths.Excellent food. I could undoubtably recommend this hotel because of its structure,the staff etc. (a bit dissapointed of the kitchen though)

Rarely anyone at the front desk to ask for help. Room keys are left at unsupervised front desk and guest are allowed to help themselves to the room keys. Weather was very hot and hotel advertised "air conditioning" but there was only a fan. Couldn't open the windows at night because of the mosquitoes. Stores around the piazza were excellent. Great restaurant price and service at La Cantina Restaurant down the street.
