Room was rather cramped and stuffy, but staff were welcoming, and food was decent.

Our first and last stay at Argyll Hotel. Upon arrival we were told there was no free parking available, though advertised. They only have 5 parking spaces, so you'll have to pay for parking elsewhere if they're full. Upon entering the room we expected the same light airy feel with tartan furnishings like in the photos. What we were greeted with was a small, dark, drab room in the basement with outdated furniture and fittings. The bed was solid, and the floor was so creaky it felt as though you could fall through it. While it seemed clean there was an undeniable musty smell throughout. The nights sleep was uncomfortable, and we were rudely awaken in the morning (9.30, 2 hours prior to checking out) by housekeeping who assumed the room was empty. Overall, poor quality for money, I shall be staying at the cheaper and better quality Premier Inn from now on.

I chose Argyll because of its proximity to the University of Glasgow grounds, its free WiFi (important for my work), and its great prices. I wasn't disappointed at all. My single room featured a double bed, a wardrobe, two chairs, a desk, two end tables, digital TV, and very good heating. The room wasn't very spacious overall (there was around 50cm clearance on 2 of the sides of the bed, around 20cm on the third, and the back of the bed was set against the wall), but it was more than enough for me needs. The room's door had a ~1cm gap at its bottom end (all other room doors had it as well, probably a precaution in case of fire/smoke?); this allowed only some of the noise from nearby rooms in and the overall experience was that of a quiet hotel. The hotel's restaurant and bar were quite good as well, the stuff was very helpful and friendly, and the hotel is in a walking distance from the city centre. Small extra: my room was named after a clan (as most other rooms as far as I could see, each with its own clan), and featured a plaque with the clan's history, emblem, castle, and tartan design.

We Stayed for 3 nights. Overall very clean and welcoming. Breakfast was good. My only criticism would be the size of the room. It was a bit on the small side and there was no electric shaver point in the bathroom. My wife and I have stayed in a number of small hotels in this area over the last 10 years and this is one of the better hotels. My advice would be not to book too far in advance otherwise you pay the rack rate. We paid £160 for 3 nights for the room with breakfast for 2. Room 102 was on the ground floor and we had access to the hotel car park for free for 2 nights. Great value
