Hotel Marinella - Nervi Genoa

Das Hotel liegt direkt am Meer, wir hatten vom modernen sauberen Zimmer einen wunderschönen Blick auf die Bucht vor Genua. An der Rückseite des Hotels liegt der Bahnhof Nervi an der recht vielbefahrenen Bahnstrecke La Spezia-Genua. Das Hotel ist nur zu Fuß vom Bahnhofsvorplatz (ca. 200 m) erreichbar und besitzt leider keinen Parkplatz. Diese sind in der näheren Umgebung Mangelware. Einzige aber teure Möglichkeit: Bahnhofsparkplatz (ca. 10-15 €/Nacht).

Had difficulty finding the hotel. Fortunately had read a comment that parking is in the station parking lot (OK, if a little remote). Hotel seems somewhat run down and mildew was visible in the passageway outside our room. However our bedroom was pleasantly decorated, had a good bathroom and a new window overlooking the sea. Good dinner in the restaurant but minimal breakfast provided. (where I cannot remember the web pages I have entered #6)

Don't be put off by the pictures, hotel is easy to find from either Nervi centre or train station well described. Once there the hotel looked in need of a new lick of paint and a few bits fixing etc but in a brilliant loctaion away from the hustle and bustle but close enough by bus or train to genoa which is suprisingly good !!

The website photo of Marinella must have been 10 yrs. ago - I thought the hotel was closed down when we first saw it. Rusted & broken windows, shutters hanging loose. Scaffolding on outside and replastering in progress. No signage to indicate entrance and no one to tell us where to go. BIG problem...no access by vehicle(ancient passage and walkways)so we had to carry 6 large pieces of luggage over 250 yards and 2 flights of steps!!! (No one offered to assist us at hotel as it is family run and short staffed) However, the two young sons were very charming once we were settled and our room(#7) had shutters that opened right over the ocean and a really nice newly remodeld bathroom(very clean & modern). The location of this facility is like being in a treehouse right over the ocean with the lovely sound of crashing waves that lull you to sleep and the passiaggiata makes a fabulous walk. Just think the first impression after a very long airflight and then long walk with luggage was a bit disheartening. Cafe/restaurant with it's great view and good food is obviously the reason people come to Marinella.

I am sorry to say it was the least attractive hotel we stayed in during our holiday. It was difficult to find, very poor directions. Car parked in a railway station, from which we had to carry heavy luggage down steep stone steps,approx 40 of them, then negotiate a long unlit tunnel under the railway lines to get to the hotel. For elderly people or unfit people it would have been a serious problem. I am 69 and my wife is 55, and we struggled to get to the hotel eventually. The room decoration was very poor, especially where large areas of repairs had been made. The public areas were also in need of improvement, cheap plastic chairs and old painted tables which I would hesitate to use in my garden. The food didnt match the publicicty on the website, very basic and not as advertised. The only good thing about the hotel was the view, which we could have enjoyed without staying there! Sorry to say it didnt meet the 3 star rating we expected which every other 3 star hotel we stayed at did. Wopuld not go there again unless convinced that substantial refurbishment had taken place, with better access facilities organised.

The booking was 'not known'. At first it was not sure we would get a room at all! In the end he apologized and gave us a room that was not finished. Nevertheless a great place to stay.

Was lovely but room was very small, air con not working & no TV or radio etc. Also needs a good paint. V good standard of bathroom.
