The good: great location, great breakfast, super helpful staff who gave us great recommendations on restaurants, etc., cleanliness of rooms. The not so good: we were in a room that faced the street and as noted by other travelers, it can be exceptionally noisy. This issue was compounded by the construction that was going on the sidewalk immediately below our window - fortunately the noise should be done as Hotel Helvetia now has a new sidewalk out front. If I had not had a pair of ear plugs in my bag I would not have been able to sleep for the four nights we stayed there.

Wonderful, helpful staff in a historic hotel in old Genoa. Only a 10-min walk to the train station. The room was very roomy and comfortable; the only drawback was constant, loud street noise from vehicle traffic.

Convenient location close to Principe train station. Staff are helpful and friendly. The Aircon in our room wasn't much good - it was more like a fan. The room was very quiet with the windows closed. Nice big bathroom with a good shower. Good breakfast - Italian style - with lots of choice.

Room was large & spacious, but we found it quite dark (as most italian rooms are) and we looked out right into another building, bathroom was small but adequate, bed was huge and comfy. Location was fantastic, staff were very helpful stored our bikes no problems at all, breakfast plentiful and free internet available - the only free internet we found!

Paulo at the front desk was so helpful. However we were charged 3 different prices for a cup of cappuccino, by 3 different front desk personnel. Although the price was right, I probably would stay somewhere else and spend a bit more money for something nicer.

Hotel has the perfect location for visitors of the Aquarium. Piazza infront of the hotel is very busy with traffic, so arriving by car makes it a bit difficult to park for unloading. Having a closeby garage (even if at a charge) was very useful.

From the daywe went into the hotel till we left we felt at home.We were comfortable, well fed at breakfast and excellent service. We left the hotel to go to Verona for a couple of days and the management kept our extra luggage for at no charge and we found them in our room when we returned. The Hotel is situated close to the airport bus terminal and the train terminal and also to the historic center. Its true that I am not very fussy but I enjoyed my holiday to the full.

The staff was nice and friendly and the hotel is located at walking distance from the center and the harbour. We were there in our honey moon the day before leaving for savona to take a cruise. Unfortunately there was a mistake and at the moment of leaving, we realized that someone had exchanged one of our suitacases. We were really upset because we couldn't wait (the ship leaves without you), but the hotel director did the miracle: he found the customer, he met him on the highway and brought our retrieved luggage in the cruise ship in Savona before the ship left! So at the end we were really surprised and happy and although there was this mistake, it was brillantly solved. We will surely come back if in Genova.

Location was within ready walking distance of the tain station and perfect for access to all local points of interest.

The Hotel Helvetia is an a great location in Genoa, few minutes walking from city center, and from the Old Harbour (very convenient for visiting the Acquario!). Even easy to reach by car, and offering a nearby car guarded parking for a reasonable price. The personnel is lovely, very kind and ready to offer us guidance for our visit (just be careful to their suggestion for catering: too enthusiastic). Our 3-people room was clean and offered whatever we needed, for a good price considering location and time of year (full Summer). Good breakfast too. I will surely go again there.

It is a very central hotel and as we only stayed for one night it was very good that we were near the area where we could find the day tours by bus. We parked our van in a private parking and although it cost us 20 eur, it was less hassle as finding a parking is very difficult. They also took care of our luggage after we had checked out

The hotel is located between the railway station and city center. All very close. Friendly and very helpful staff. They give you a map in your language, and information about the city. Good spoken English. There is free internet. You can leave your luggage. Good breakfast (with fruit) The room is very good. Big, beautiful, with good furniture. The bathroom is also nice and big. The windows of my room went to the square. Beautiful view from the terrace! I recommend to visit the Royal Palace.

The hotel was easy to access thanks to the excellent road signs indicating the directions to various hotels in Genoa. It had very nice and helpful staff, the room was clean, large, without any frills, but had all one needs. The location is a bit noisy, with the windows open (close to a busy intersection), but on the flipside it is in a very nice area. The breakfast was good and the service was again great. Overall, for our family with 2 young children, the overnight stay en route to another location, was a very good experence.

The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to help me print my boarding pass. They may find it of use to themselves to provide a printer with the free internet access as many people must need to print boarding passes now. The location is spot on - close to the station and, porto antico and centro storico. Once I'd found my bearings it's pretty easy in a car too. It was a bit of a fash parking at the secure garage but there are plenty on car parks over the road including a 24 hour one. The only problem I had with the hotel was the noise from the street most of the night. This was from buses and I think some work in the street. My room overlooked the piazza.

We stayed here because we were going on a cruise the following day. We had a family room for four. Very comfortable and so much character and charm. Christian was the young man on duty and welcomed us in English and was extremely helpful in helping us find a place to eat. We had a great breakfast in the morning which was included in the price. There is also free internet in the public area. A pleasant place to stay after a LONG day of travel!! We met some fellow cruisers at breakfast from the Neatherlands. We were able to store our luggage at the hotel and walk to the aquarium and do some site seeing before departing for the cruise.

The Helvitia is located in a busy part of Genoa, but it is only a block away from the harbor and the train station(long block). It provided everything we needed including a free computer in the lobby for their guests. The breakfasts were good and the hotel served our needs nicely for the three days we spent in Genoa. It is easy to get to the coastal towns of Portofino, Comelgie and Santa Marguarita. This hotel for anyone who is not driving is a decent choice, centrally located to the main tourist attractions. The staff was very helpful and pleasant to deal with.

Location is close to the historical center and to the port. The street is noisy, but we didn't noticed that as asked for fooms faced to small back street. Hotel is good for walking to the city, visiting small shops on the way there and then returning back through the port. Employees were very helpful. The young woman on the reception drew the route over the map and tald about all the landmarks. She also gave great advice on restaurant in the old port. Restroom was too small, but it's OK if you stay for one night only.

For those on a limited budget and without pretentions to luxury, this hotel is a find. Although its immediate surroundings are fairly scruffy, it is safe, clean, friendly and conveniently located on the edge of the most opulent part of the historical centre, near the railway station and closeby some good restaurants. Genoa is a fabulously interesting city for anyone interested in art, architecture, urbanism and history. The best of it is all within easy reach of the hotel. My stay of three days was rich and full. The only grounds for complaint were: a somewhat delapidated shower cubicle, no airconditioning and a voracious mosquito or two.

Hotel Helvetia is in easy walking distance from the station and landmarks, such as Christopher Columbus' house. The shopping in the nearby streets is excellent!!! We liked having complimentary internet access so that we didn't have to go out looking for an internet cafe!

Hotel was easy to find from train station and is centrally located. Despite fronting onto a busy square, the hotel was very quiet inside with good air conditioning. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only minus point was that the bathroom was showing signs of mould.

We had a four beds room. It was quite dusty but bedsheets and towels were clean. Big cocraches were found at the floor. Breakfast were ok, so was the location. Employees were very nice. Good enough for a couple of nights but not for a longer stay.

There was enough space in the room, the breakfast was good. It was very hot and the airco didn't work very good. The toilet was not smelling fresh when we arrived. Further, everything was really ok. They gave us a map of the city, the staff was very friendly. The location was also very good. It is only 5 minutes walking from the railway station.

Helvetia easily exceeded our expectations in the quality of the room and even more so with the service. All of the staff were most accommadating and went out of their way to make our stay a most pleasant experience. We would not hesitate to give Helvetia our highest recommendation. Anthony is my legal name but people know me as Richard (my middle name) so you would do better to display my name as Richard.

Nice hotel for the price. Puts you right in the middle of the action. I don't reccomend taking a car there.

We were given a huge apartment for an unbelievably reasonable price, and the hotel as a whole was terrific. In addition, they recommended a nearby restaurant -- GAIA -- that was one of the best we've ever tried in any country. Bravo!

The hotel was centrally located. Staff very friendly and helpful, room comfortable and clean. Within walking distance to the railway station and to all the sightseeing within the city. Walking distance to the beautiful port of Genoa. We would definitely stay again on our next visit. Genoa is certainly a city to visit again and again.
